  • Important Note: Pay close attention to the slight tuning variation in over the mountain. When this song was recorded something happened to Randy’s tuning. A detailed explanation is in the beginning of these videos. Enjoy!

    definitely have to feel the groove on this one. it took me so long to get this one down. randy had something special. the way he controlled the dirty channel on his amp was magic. both him and Eddie. controlled chaos is the only way to describe it.

    It's amazing what a few hertz can do to the way a riff feels. It'd be interesting to compare the tunings - if you had two backing tracks, one in true e-flat and one in this slightly sharper tuning, you could see if they feel any different.

    • @dreyn7780
      @dreyn7780 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong.
      You can only get the F1 car experience from an F1 car.
      There's 120 official RR sounds you can BUY and use for yourself right now in 2021.
      I can assure you ALL, you'll never experience SATO or diary tone without the modified channel from a JMP amp.
      Specificly the 1959 RR amp.
      That amp does ALL the lowering of the sound.
      That amp changes how you play just like a race car makes you change your driving.
      If you drive a bus, you're always experiencing the bus you're never experiencing the F1 car.
      You always look like you're driving a bus.
      You always sound like you're driving a bus.
      GROW UP guitarists!
      You're extremely wrong and childish caveman era.

    • @freebiemx1094
      @freebiemx1094 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dreyn7780 That's quite a rant there buddy but I'm not wrong, you are. Your analogy is trash because playing guitars isn't like driving cars - and switching amps damn sure isn't like going from a bus to F1. You can achieve any tone you want these days with modern gear, you don't need some mythical unicorn amp from 40 years ago to "experience" Randy's tone. Your "point" doesn't have any relevance to what I wrote, not sure why you chose to reply to me. Also weird that you're calling people childish and telling them to GROW UP lol. You're the only one acting like a child around here dude.

    Bob daisley told me that randy turned a whole step down for this one ,so it's in A

    • @scottdunn2178
      @scottdunn2178 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. Randy tuned a HALF step flat to Eb. The tape recorder issue talked about would have only skewed Randy's tuning by a few "cents". A whole step flat from standard E tuning would have put the guitar in D which is the tuning of a lot of modern bands that to me sound like rubber bands. Randy definitely didn't tune a whole step flat to D.

    • @coreykoepsel
      @coreykoepsel 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scottdunn2178 try it ,it seems to work in that position even if everyone else is half step down ,that a position is comfortable. Makes sense .I'm not saying your playing it wrong ,you got some chops,but he was tuned a whole step down on the recording.

    • @scottdunn2178
      @scottdunn2178 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@coreykoepsel A WHOLE step down from E standard would have the guitar tuned to D... and Diary Of A Madman would sound like a Creed, etc. record. Randy's tuning is a HALF step flat... plus a few "cents". The guy in the video even says so.

I've been a guitarist since 1980... and I can tell you emphatically that Over The Mountain is NOT tuned down a WHOLE step... to D!!! I don't give a shit what Bob Daisley told you.
