    For those of you arriving late to this party, like me, this may help cut to the chase since there is no table of contents:
    15:26 - First actual discussion of FT3DR.
    17:32 - Set and store a frequency.
    19:20 - Show single channel.
    19:40 - Set up tones for repeater.
    23:37 - Repeater offset - +/-.
    25:24 - APRS.
    27:40 - Wider bands FMW.
    29:15 - AM band select.
    29:33 - SW bands (listen only).
    29:54 - Air band scanning.
    32:24 - Programming with SCU 19 cable.
    44:20 - Save to/load from SD card (32gb).
    59:00 - APRS.
    1:07:52 - Bandscope.
    1:10:18 - Record audio to SD card.
    1:11:00 - Backup/restore to/from SD.
    1:17:42 - Wires X.
    1:26:45 - Yaesu system fusion vs Wires X.
    1:27:55 - GM feature.
    If any errors, let me know and I will edit.
    Subscribed newby and grateful to Josh for all his hard work. Suggestion: consider different color scheme for scrolling text, and attention to the background. I can't make out names/call signs as it is, for over half the video.
    Also for any TH-camrs who may not know, if you click on the 3 dots at upper right of the video, you get a list of settings. You can speed up or slow down the video. Personally I find 1.25x and 1.5x very useful to get through the non-substantive portions of videos. You can also double tap on the left or right side of the video to backup or advance the video in 10 second increments while viewing.
    Thanks again!

    I grabbed the FT3DR earlier this month and I'm really enjoying it. Very easy to learn (I'm brand new to HAM), program and operate. After just a couple of days with it, I can confidently navigate the menus and access my numerous programmed memory banks. Still waiting on my callsign unfortunately. Having a great time listening and learning the radio in the mean time.

    If your pi-star is transmitting you won't be able to join a different channel until there is a break in TX, and the radio can talk to the pi-star to change the "room". It worked for joining cq-uk because there was a break, when you hit the americalink channel the radio was receiving which meant your pi-star was transmitting and not listening. And thanks Josh, you cost me some money with a pi-start hotspot and a new ft3dr. :)

    • @themesh8886
      @themesh8886 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@skyscratcher8825 I would say YES, only because none of your other two radios are DUAL VFO (dual band yes, but NOT dual VFO). Personally I find that to be a HUGE feature and I use it all the time. Its literally like having two separates radios in one. I have my own crossband repeater and home and with Dual VFO, it simplifies TX/RX needs when operating a local x-band repeater since there is no way to provide a TX shift on the same band. Even useful if its something simple as using talking to someone simplex during a card ride, and monitoring a repeater at the same time in case you go out of range. I wont own anything less than a Dual VFO radio. It doesn't have to be the FT-3DR, but that's the main reason I would pick it over the two you have.

    Paul Harrell is the man. I am looking for a HT but I want it to be made in a country that does not have a habit of suppressing technology when it suits them. I am looking for a radio that will continue to work after the PRC have shut down all other forms of communication, can any one recommend a HT not made in the PRC? Thanks in advance.

    At 28:30, you have to enter three digits to get the dot in the right place. My favorite over-the-air FM station here in Dallas, TX is KLUV, 98.7. I enter it as 0987 and the decimal will be correct.

    Instead of sorting by the notes you can choose to only see 2m and 70cm by the search bar at the bottom center of the RT screen.

    • @josephkuser3998
      @josephkuser3998 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ham Radio Crash Course yes I did and it said it was successful. Then when I put the SD card back in the computer all the channels are gone. I kind of suck at this stuff and I can't figure it out. I save it to the card but it just isn't working and I can't find any info on it.

    • @HamRadioCrashCourse
      @HamRadioCrashCourse  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d format on the radio. Then use the Yaesu software or RTSystems to load channels. Then put in radio and load.

      just plug whatever in, it does not really matter unless you are using the APRS or transmitting on a digital mode. You can always change it in the menu too when you get your license.
