I can't get enough of this jam. Absolute classic 👌. Tony Allen's drumming is out of this world 🌎

The first time I ever heard Fela on the radio, I picked up a National Geographic article on Nigeria. There was a picture of a Lagos traffic jam - the go slow - and then the chorus kicked in while I was reading it. Music for the ages.

For several months in the mid 70s this instrumental version of 'Go slow' used to be the closing glee at the Empire hotel Shrine. I believe Fela had a special liking for 'Go slow' and 'Power Show', both later used to end his shows as instrumentals or recorded twice. Very rare for Fela to record the same music twice or play them after recording.

Interesting! So I guess you've been there. Do you have something to tell about that? Cheers from Italy!

I saw Fela play 30-40 times a year between 1973 and 1990. He was the music of our teenage years till we became adults. Note that our parents and many adults disapproved us going to the shrine. Even many in our age grade disapprove our association with Fela. Up till today, I have never heard a music that goes so deep into my soul. The last time I saw Fela play was in 1992 at Brixton Academy, London. Till this day I play a piece of Fela’s music at least once in a week to be at peace. Rest on FELA.

@@olukayodenathan9132 Its actually an irony, that people who saw fela as a scourge in the system back then see him as a prophet now. I remember how I was always cautioned anytime i sing his music while growing up.

The intro to the version on Roforofo fight is sublime. When the bass drum kicks in under the beautiful electric piano high notes.

I’m confused because the video’s version is totally different intro from the Go Slow I know. And the other version I know has a much better intro where each part layers in. Here’s the (my opinion) better and mind-blowing polyphony th-cam.com/video/ZNKTBbKrJLc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=B9Ym60pk6dnJJ9Wc

@@BrendanDevlin94Yeah heh the other version intro is way better th-cam.com/video/ZNKTBbKrJLc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=B9Ym60pk6dnJJ9Wc The one were commenting on sounds like Fela noodling on keys for way too long with none of the piece by piece layering intro of the other one!
