  • The Idea was had on Sunday night. On Tuesday morning, I cooked breakfast on it!
I only tacked this together to make modifications easier. But hey- It works just great as it is. I will use it for a few weeks and torture test it then make a nice plate steel version. If this interests you, just ask for details- Im happy to help however I can.

Love the design but was surprised by the height of the chimney.
Is this necessary to draw the heat through the horizontal parts or would it also work if significantly shorter ?
    Thanks !

    • @francoisdastardly4405
      @francoisdastardly4405 5 ปีที่แล้ว

More long chimney more suction and more flow speed. More air in the intake and more efficient combustion. Shorter chimney can work well, one meter is ok, more is better.

Is a good stove..Insulate the walls and bottom. IF they are not and they are hot to the touch then is heat you are losing that is not reflected on the top. Do bricks inside or frame with clay or some insulating material outside. Let only the top surface hot and all heat will only be sent there since it cannot escape alsewhere.

with something compact. Im perfecting an oven for it now -look at the latest videos . Ill be doing a full how to vid with all the measurements as soon as Im sure its as good as I can get it

TinyHouse and Offgrid Resources Great idea! I may attempt to make one, but I may try interchangeable grill plates to also use as enclosed type Bbq. One side had the grill ridges and other side is a griddle that can also be used as griddle or burner surface for pots. I may even build a warming oven in the back by leaving a small damper with tiny holes at the rear that can be opened up while its cooling down. You have inspired me for sure!

  • @Javaman92
    @Javaman92 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

If you added insulation around the outside and on the bottom of your stove it would warm it up a bit more I would think. Plus, it would push the warmer temperatures more around the stove. At least it seems it would to me.

There’s a project in Mexico bringing this type of rocket stoves to use at home, to use in place of the three rock fires that they use. You should check it out, they are made of clay but work the same way as yours does. Fantastic to cook for large families.
Great video, would’ve liked to see the inside to see how it works. Keep those videos coming mate. Thumbs up!

I found the opposite to be true in the fuel consumption area when burning in a rocket stove, I could go through a stack of wood in about an hour because the fire is so intense. Very nice idea with the stove you built, the u-shape under the cooking surface is good engineering!

Great! I just liked and subbed.
Do you find there's an advantage to the U-shaped exhaust path under a square cooking surface, as opposed to a straight shot, fire box at on end, chimney at the other, 4 pots side-by-side? To retrofit an indoor kitchen, the square makes sense. Without that constraint, I wonder if a linear path would be more efficient. Or maybe the resistance offered by a serpentine path is beneficial? I'm new to this!

NOVA = NO Volts or Amps
    You are the developer but...
What if you made the stove only as wide (or less) than the biggest pot. Then you make the stove long enough for three or four pots. The temperature gradient would go from high to low in a smooth, linear way. Final dimensions, insulation and locating the firebox (high or low) are for the builder. What a cool build!

one word.... WOW! What gauge metal are you using? Can you provide drawing/schematics of that inside/all components? I am on disability income and need exactly what you have made. Perhaps I can find scraps and someone to make it for me for a nominal fee. After testing it couple months I will put it in my small house to cook on. I cannot afford gas or electricity for cooking.. I have a rocket stove water heater I use effectively. This savings means alot to my tight little budget.

Good shit McGit, love the piece of irony chucked in, Nova electrickery, lets try and sell you something you don't need. Just bought a property in Tas, the unscrupulous real estate agent said the property had power and water. It had water but the poll was condemned, and all the lines removed. I think it's time for going off grid, sick of ridiculously high electricity prices, and their guesstimates when your not there to show them the metre.

What are the exact measurements of the bottom and main frame of the stove. It is basically set up and works on the same theory as the US military M-1944 detachment stove. The difference it the M-1944 is fuel fired and smokes like crazy, and yours if wood fired and burns clean.
I would really appreciate it if you could do a drawing with the measurements.
Great video, great piece of gear .
    Thank you for your efforts.

The exact measurements are the same as the second hand grill plate I found at the dump. That is why I made all it internal components moveable so that I could experiment. Finding out for yourself is how we learn. Having exact measurements and instructions is how life gets boring and controlled.

This is by far, none even close, to a "Wife Friendly" attractive Rocket Cook Stove. I'd love to have one. I'd use a Coleman Camping oven to place on the grill for any Oven requirements. If it were for sale, I'd buy it. My only metal working equipment is an old arc welder from when I raced cars. If plans were available, I'd buy them then find a local shop to fabricate this.

Remember the old wood kitchen stoves with covered holes? They were "almost" rocket stoves. Several years ago I saw a Russian R.S. that "reinvented" that design. If you can submerge pots into the firebox the heat transfer is maximized.
Your use of fire bricks to line the firebox is a nice touch many overlook. It greatly extends the stove life and contains heat.
I would have put in a slanted, taller feeder channel for "load & leave".

Im thinking of a pellet hopper next and maybe a feed extension of about 4inches

There are a number of designs out there which use the sunk pot approach. Apprevecho institute had a number of stuff and oven designs worth looking at for ideas. The developed a commercial kitchen sized skiryed stove to boil water in large pots. As well as a low cost barrel oven for baking bread.

From what I've seen, pellet hoppers are a little tricky and may need an electric auger to evenly dispense the pellets and keep them from clumping. Will be curious to see how you adapt the design.

Very cool. I was watching a video the other day and they made a Dakota fire hole which just looked to me like a dug out hole formed like a rocket stove. Very handy camping/survival.

I m in Africa and this can be an excellent solution to the challenges here. Due to long droughts women have to walk long distances to get fire wood. Looking forward to your videos to see if these can be made locally.

That's really neat. I was going to put a n old classicLeda into my middle room workshop this next (UK) winter for when I'm restoring my bikes, but I'm thinking this design would be way better.
The plan is to go fully off grid eventually, but steadily increase the amount of heating and cooking I do using zero power. I've got shitloads of logs, but they won't last long in a conventional stove.
So, have you got any photos of the firebrick arrangement please? Did you line the bottom? I'm really impressed.

Alonzo Branson the insulation bricks keep the heat in. There is just a warmth coming off the side
