He's like a caricature of the "rude Frenchman" stereotype. Not all French players are like that of course, Monfis for example is the polar opposite to Paire.
When he was younger there was a documentary on him broadcast on french TV and it was very sad to watch but also gave me a lot of sympathy for him, he was totally aware he had insane demons but couldn't stop becoming so horrible and self destructive on court and was trying to work on it to still exploit his potential. Well now that we're near the end of his career, he didn't really ever go past that but he still had a pretty decent career and some fun moments.
@@JulioHernandez-dx7gt The series is called Intérieur Sport and the episode was named Servi Frappé, but even in french I can't find it anymore so good luck if you want subtitles lol

He is exactly where he deserves: losing against challenger players, and completely forgotten by everyone. Congrats mate, a whole dedicated youth to end like this lmao
@@Bensway7 yes screaming with the umpire, ripping his shirt off, spitting on the court, acting completely berserk... this must be the saddest clown in tennis
The strange thing is some people do things like that to take the rivals out of their game and make them lose focus (kyrgios, even top players like novak to a lesser extent). But this guy apparently only does it to sabotage himself, the moment he starts to throw a tantrum the match is over and he proceeds to lose all the remaining games.
I think he was also affected by the lockdowns - okay, all players had to deal with it but some players were badly affected. Benoit Paire was one such player. There were concerns about his behaviour on-court long before Convid but the lockdowns worsened and exacerbated them. I truly believe that.
It’s extremely sad that Paire never got professional help during his career. Should’ve taken a year off to control his problems, cause his behavior is a disgrace for the sport.
Should’ve been automatically defaulted after he spit so disrespectfully. That’s the most shameful thing you can do. Spit where you don’t agree with an umpire’s decision. You’re insulting him, your opponent, the sport, the fans and everything in between. Honestly that should include forfeiture of prize money for the event too. Disgraceful behavior.
Personal responsibility is a thing. He's rich enough to have had a therapist travel with him or be at the end of a phone line. He could have chosen to give up alcohol. He could have picked the brains of sports people professionals who developed self-control or who found peace in their lives (eg French speaker Mary Pierce). Etc etc...
