Lin said it is typical of their culture where a topic is taboo but that is all they talk about. I actually see this whenever there is a family gathering. Kinda funny.
Fun fact: Dolores sings softly because her gift is that she can hear everything over a mile away so evrything is loud for her, thats why she sings softly
@@zypesiii7229 I wasn't talking about her speaking, I was talking about the fact that she knows Bruno's in the house so while they're singing a song, basically dissing him the whole time, she doesn't want him to feel worse so she sings softer cuz she knows he's somewhere in the walls
Fun fact: The song "we don't talk about Bruno" is based on a singing style that is originated in italy but is very popular in Bolívia. The composition where you can hear each pearson singing their part alone and then in the end everyone is singing their part on top of each other to create the final choir is called "madrigal choir".
I wonder if that’s on purpose. Lin Manuel Miranda uses this in almost all of his works. You can hear it in 96,000 from In the Heights and Non-Stop from Hamilton. It’s very fun to hear all the voices blend together and build to a climax.
To clarify, Delores ( the quiet singer ) her power is to hear everything therefore she naturally speaks quiet as her mind is already loud Also the other great song in Encanto is Surface Pressure if you wanted to hear more!

The songs for this movie were written by Lin Manuel Miranda, which probably explains the musical theater feel of them. I believe he co-wrote songs for Moana as well. It would be awesome to see you react to Encanto, the songs are great and the characters are a lot of fun 👏🏻👏🏻
Yea, I'd have liked him to react to ALL of the songs. Not just 1 song in a movie he didn't even bother watching. The songs are dialogue basically in a film like this.
The best part is that for this movie he actually got involved early on, so the songs work like they would in a musical (characters emotions build up to the point of singing). I love his song in Moana but I think you can tell the songs were added after the script was written rather than working on both at the same time.

They got started with Avenue Q and The Book of Mormon before writing for Frozen, WandaVision, and other Disney titles. So, it’s little wonder that recent movies have sounded more like musical theater than past Disney princesses.
It’s interesting you mentioned Isa’s “cliche Disney Princess voice” because her arc is that she’s pressured and expected to act like the “classically pretty golden child” making pretty flowers and when she just wants to be *real* and flawed. And the girl singing quiet has super human hearing… so it’s interesting you picked up her characterization
Fun Fact: Mirabel’s voice (the protagonist) is Stephanie Beatriz aka Rosa Diaz in Brooklyn 99 and is interesting what you said about her having so much control with her voice because the actress actually make her voice deeper in the show for her character and sound like 2 different persons really and she did that for 8 seasons the show had so that’s really impressive.
Same! I had only seen her in Brooklyn and there she would make the high pitch voice only when joking or doing a "character" and when I saw it was her as Mirabel my mind was blown!
Personally I would love to see a reaction to the whole movie, because I feel like the songs make more sense in the context as they are very tied to the characters who sing them. Also this movie is different then most Disney films in general, they do things they have never done before and focus very much on the characters which resulted in one of the most complex movies from them yet, with a beautiful message.
I love how you noticed all the musical heartbeats of the characters. I was just talking about how masterful Lin Manuel Miranda is at that. True genius. The girl who can hear everything whisper-sings, the "perfect" sister has a traditional princess voice. It's such a great movie and you should 100% watch the whole thing! 💕
If you know the symbolism and story behind each character you'd understand why I gasped when you said Isabella's voice is the most Disney princess-ish voice 😃
FINALLY SOMEONE TALKED ABOUT HOW CAMILO'S VOICE IS SO GOOD. I mean, they're all good but there's something about Camilo's singing voice that's so good, and I can't really point out what it is because I'm not a vocal coach and I don't study music
Stephanie Beatriz is the lead singer in Encanto and her singing voice really is amazing, but u should totally check her out on Brooklyn nine nine, a tv show where she plays one of the leads, Rosa Diaz, her speaking voice is completely the opposite from those clips u reacted to in this video, it's quite amazing actually
It makes her role as mirabel funny in the best way possible because Rosa Diaz is such a tough bad ass and then mirabel is, well also a bad ass but in a very different softer way. It's really cool seeing both sides of Stephanie
a lot of the non traditional disney sound to the encanto songs is due to lin manuel miranda, known for creating in the heights and hamilton, who helped create this movie. you can hear his influences with the almost hip hop/rap sound during dolores’ verse(the quiet singer) and the combined verses which we see a lot in Lin’s musicals like in 96,000(in the heights) and non stop(hamilton).
The movie takes place in Colombia (edited for spelling error), and it has been said that Lin really did his research on the varied types of music that represent different parts of Columbia. As usual, he did incredible!!
@@deltasriracha8830 lin actually said when being interviewed about encanto is that they recruited him when the moana process had already started compared to encanto where he was there since the beginning. but regardless i think the non traditional disney sound in encanto is due to the columbian influences. but i can still hear parts of lin in moana like for example “your welcome” where rapping is involved lmao
you should watch the whole movie tristan! i'm not sure how youtube's copyright would treat you, but the music, visuals, & plot are incredible (probably one of my favorite disney movies now)... theres a lot of themes & cultural elements explored throughout the movie & it would be cool to see what you think about colombian culture making its way to a big release (: this song is such a great taste of every aspect in the movie so thank you for checking it out !!
I love that there were altos in this movie that WEREN'T villains. Surface pressure is probably my absolute favorite from the movie but We Don't Talk About Bruno is way up there too
@@MrTuas that was my point. She was an antagonist, but since her actions were not malevolent by design she wasn't a villain. Her actions were detrimental to the family though, and especially Mirabele
that was such a good observation at 3:47 Dolores is sensitive to sound (she had super hearing powers) which is probably why she doesn't sing very loud. Also, she claps with only her two index fingers.
The alto representation in this movie is so good omg. I don't think you commented on this part but during Dolores's "rap" part she hits a C3 😩 And Luisa/Jessica Darrow's song surface pressure is also very low it's so good
I really liked dolores part cause it fits her character a lot she is a character that has superheating and typically superhearing is a blessing and a curse as everything is really loud and there too much noise so she sings quietly to avoid overloading her ears
also, the one girl that sounds like a typical Disney Princess was designed to be the "Disney Princess" trope in the family, like the perfect golden-child - so she was definitely coached to sound more traditional and femme in that way, which is super neat that you picked up on it!
The reason why Dolores, the one who was singing softly, talks/sings in such a soft/quiet tone is because she has the gift/power of enhanced hearing so she is very sensitive to sound.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is just sOO SOOooo good with overlapping vocals, it just expresses a very chaotic feel but it doesn't overwhelm you. I effing love thaat
Dolores sings so quiet/soft because her power is super hearing, so it’s probably more comfortable for her to sing that way. You should definitely react to Surface Pressure, too, it’s another alto song :)
I would LOVE to see you react to this again after seeing the movie and understanding the context more. It is SUCH A PEICE OF ART and I think you’d appreciate it EVEN MORE.
02:00 The girl singing here is Dolores. In the family that she's in, everyone has a gift. (aka powers) Her gift is that she can hear EVERYTHING, so she sings quietly so she doesn't hurt her ears.
She also notably refers to Bruno in the present tense for her verse ("I can always hear him sorta muttering and mumbling"), unless specifically refering to an event he took part in that did take place in the past ("Always left Abuela and the family bumbling"). Which makes the line "Do you understand" all the more foreboding, especially as Bruno is in the background of this scene on the balcony, where Delores would absolutely be able to hear him.
This movie has a LOT of female lower vocal ranges represented which not only is unheard of in Disney but is pretty rare in broadway and musicals in GENERAL. As an alto I was very happy for once to hear a lot of songs that I don't have to hard pitch alter to sing along with lol
The songs were written by Lin-Manuel, the man who wrote and plays Hamilton in the Hamilton play. So the fact that it sounds like it comes from musical-theater is because of that! It's such an amazing movie, so I would definitely recommend watching it!
The main character in this movie voiced by Stephanie Beatriz also plays Rosa Diaz on the show Brooklyn 99 and her voice is so different than her voice in Encanto I couldn't believe it was the same person. It's wild how talented she is.
It’s all character acting, the one who sings quiet has super good hearing and can hear miles away, which is why she’s quiet. the one who sings like a princess is the “perfect” one. You should def watch the movie tons of good music and it’s more enjoyable one you know the story of the characters
Lin likes to overlap the vocals of some his songs and I adore that about him. This song, 96000 in In The Heights, some songs in Hamilton. They always turn out amazing.
Lin is an incredible artist like he’s so talented he leaves like a little bit of him in every song he writes. Rewatch Hamilton and then encanto, there’s so many musical similarities as well as plot themes like Dolores’s prophecy her love is “betrothed to another” and we watch further and find out she’s in love with her sisters boyfriend… Hamilton Angelica was in love with her sister Eliza’s husband Hamilton. So many more similarities like this are present throughout all of Encanto. I honestly wonder if the producers got a few tips from Lin while writing 😂
Stephanie Beatriz voice is so insane! I remember hearing her actual voice after getting used to her Rosa’s deep deep deep voice from Brooklyn Nine Nine
The actress you reacted to had played in brooklyn nine nine she naturally has a pretty high voice but for her rôle on b99 she talks in a low. It's actually amazing to compare her in interviews and her b99 character (roza diaz)
the lady who plays mirabel (the lead) was also in ' In the heights' and she sings in a different style there too! Also isabella's voice sounded so pretty and disneyesque because her character is supposed to embody perfection. I thought that was really cool of you to notice even without context!
2:10 isn't it because she's talking about someone who she knows is hearing her? Dolores is the only one who knows Bruno is still in the house. In fact, you can see Bruno in the background on Dolores' part. Also, she has super hearing. For her to sing loudly is like having super vision and staring at really bright vivid colours
Probably the reason tha Dolores’ part is so soft spoken is to mirror her actual character. Her scene is filled with louder footsteps and things like that, probably to signify how her character also hears all these amplified background noises. For why she speaks softly, I thought it may be because as she hears so many things, she may have actually come to dislike loud things in general because they’re very distracting for someone with enhanced hearing.
I think every single person singing in this song represents who they are like Mirabel talks serious in the song because she is worried the whole time, Isabella sings like a Disney princess, Dolores talks quiet because her gift is hearing, and Camilo talks sneakily bevause he is a shape shifter and so on. It just impresses me so much on how they put this song together.
The reason why the girls voice is so low because her power is hearing the smallest noises like a pin dropping she can hear wishers that’s why she whispers when she sings. The reason why the other girls voice is more like “perfect” and “princessy” is because her power is being perfect and making beautiful flowers bloom so she gives off a more Disney princess vibe
This is classic Lin-Manuel Miranda’s fingerprint, multiple songs playing on top of each other with powerful storytelling pushing the plot forward! He wrote all 8 songs in Encanto.
For Dolores (the one singing really quietly) she has a hearing “gift” so she can hear a lot more than a normal human can there for if something is a bit loud for some people it would be a lot louder for her
their characters are really well represented in their singing, the lady singing softly is dolores who has very very sharp hearing so she sings softly because of that and the disney princess sounding one feels like she must be perfect, so she plays the role of the perfect pretty girl.
1:48 Lin Manuel Miranda helped write a lot if not all of the songs in this movie. Which kind of fits with what you said about the vocals being like those from musical theater as he does write musicals.
1:55 I love the actress who plays Dolores’ voice she was my favourite character in this movie! That “oh nOOo” at 2:30 was so beautiful! Also, I love how the alto representative in this movie aren’t villains!!
Hey Tristan, I think you really should do a whole movie review, trust me this movie is worthy even if you can’t put all the movie please put a version with all the songs In TH-cam and tell us about your thoughts and reactions cuz I would like to know. I also enjoy the complexity of this song so much!
My daughter absolutely loves this movie. She was singing all the songs as the movie was being promoted. We saw it during it's premiere weekend, and she hasn't stopped! It's cute honestly, but I truly loved this movie.
i think the guy singing Camilo perfectly captured that story telling aspect, hes very expressive not just because of his shapeshifting power, but because he accentuates and stresses a few words at appropriate times
I love everything that you pointed out without watching the film because it shows how well they were able to portray everyone even without context. Isabela is literally made for her character to be a typical, perfect Disney Princess as she is the favorite child. Her looks & her voice as you pointed out are supposed to reflect that. Something I enjoy about this film is that I feel like I can sing along to this songs as someone who isn’t practiced. Especially Luisa’s song, with her lower and rougher voice than what is typically cast. The last astute point you made is that the singing is more theatrical than Disney’s usually style-the entire thing is shot in a way that is easily translatable into a play or musical. The way they move and how scenes are set up are intentionally like that so people can see them as if from a stage, and because LMM wrote the music, you can hear his own personal influences in flow and lyricism.
You hit the nail right on the head with your analysis!! BTW, Dolores’ power is super hearing so she is quiet in her singing and movements because otherwise it would be too loud for her ears 😃

Exactly what I was thinking
Same! I had only seen her in Brooklyn and there she would make the high pitch voice only when joking or doing a "character" and when I saw it was her as Mirabel my mind was blown!
I didn't realise that :0
I love both these series
She's also in Lin Manuel Miranda's "In the Heights" movie!! y'all should watch it too!
@@ElaFigura Yes, it was a great musical
The best part is Dolores's singing part. So underrated.
RIGHT. it’s my favorite part by far
Dolores is so underrated I loooove her
YES
My favorite is Camilo’s, but Dolores’s is amazing as well.
Her ‘no’ as they are walking under the cave gives me chills!!
i fell in love with that dude’s voice too and i’m so addicted to that “no no” harmony at 2:30 ughhh so good
Personally I would love to see a reaction to the whole movie, because I feel like the songs make more sense in the context as they are very tied to the characters who sing them. Also this movie is different then most Disney films in general, they do things they have never done before and focus very much on the characters which resulted in one of the most complex movies from them yet, with a beautiful message.
Yeah, the songs definitely make more sense in context, at least this one does
yes yes yes!
@@DarkSharkDomilian agreed
Absolutely right
@@DarkSharkDomilian m I’m hugtgfzzzzzssssssszzzzddfkmlllm k lol Miguel. hi lil TV this lk
Fun fact the reason it’s more like a musical is because Lin manual Miranda or in other words the writer of Hamilton wrote the music to Disneys Encanto
If you know the symbolism and story behind each character you'd understand why I gasped when you said Isabella's voice is the most Disney princess-ish voice 😃
Exactly! I feel like the voice casting for this was intentionally perfect!!
And with Dolores she sings softer than the others because in her verse the footsteps are emphasized to indicate her sharp hearing
You need to watch the movie!!! There’s so much context to their voice that is so important. It enhances their singing style
I agree
Same, I'm like deadpan deep voice Rosa?
Yes 🙌🏻 Brooklyn Nine Nine!
It makes her role as mirabel funny in the best way possible because Rosa Diaz is such a tough bad ass and then mirabel is, well also a bad ass but in a very different softer way. It's really cool seeing both sides of Stephanie
Yes I love her she's so talented
a lot of the non traditional disney sound to the encanto songs is due to lin manuel miranda, known for creating in the heights and hamilton, who helped create this movie. you can hear his influences with the almost hip hop/rap sound during dolores’ verse(the quiet singer) and the combined verses which we see a lot in Lin’s musicals like in 96,000(in the heights) and non stop(hamilton).
Lin Manuel Miranda if a fucking musical genius.
The movie takes place in Colombia (edited for spelling error), and it has been said that Lin really did his research on the varied types of music that represent different parts of Columbia. As usual, he did incredible!!
well he also wrote moana and that was pretty traditional disney 😂
YES
@@deltasriracha8830 lin actually said when being interviewed about encanto is that they recruited him when the moana process had already started compared to encanto where he was there since the beginning. but regardless i think the non traditional disney sound in encanto is due to the columbian influences. but i can still hear parts of lin in moana like for example “your welcome” where rapping is involved lmao
Love that the ending lyrics for Isabella was her telling herself “I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m fine”. And then her facials telling us she really wasn’t 😛
you should watch the whole movie tristan! i'm not sure how youtube's copyright would treat you, but the music, visuals, & plot are incredible (probably one of my favorite disney movies now)... theres a lot of themes & cultural elements explored throughout the movie & it would be cool to see what you think about colombian culture making its way to a big release (: this song is such a great taste of every aspect in the movie so thank you for checking it out !!
Criticisim and review is alright
hi
I love that there were altos in this movie that WEREN'T villains.
Surface pressure is probably my absolute favorite from the movie but We Don't Talk About Bruno is way up there too
i mean technically there was no villain in this movie so
@@magk2524 no villain but Abuela was AAAAAAAALMOST there.
@@zaclittlejohn2701 she was the main antagonist but not a villain.
@@MrTuas that was my point. She was an antagonist, but since her actions were not malevolent by design she wasn't a villain. Her actions were detrimental to the family though, and especially Mirabele
The girl who's always singing quiet has to sing quietly cuz she can hear literally everything because that's her gift
You should definitely react to all of the 8 songs from this movie if you can. I’d love to see that
Me too!!!! Please do it do it do it do it pleaaaaaaseee
that was such a good observation at 3:47
Dolores is sensitive to sound (she had super hearing powers) which is probably why she doesn't sing very loud.
Also, she claps with only her two index fingers.
i love how everyone loves camilo's voice, his part was personally my favorite lol
If I’m not mistaken she hits an even lower part at 3:55 of this song as it’s transitioning
@@johnmarklawrence4874 No I’m pretty sure that’s around an F3 which is high than a C3
It's so NICE to have Disney songs I can finally SING as an alto!
also, the one girl that sounds like a typical Disney Princess was designed to be the "Disney Princess" trope in the family, like the perfect golden-child - so she was definitely coached to sound more traditional and femme in that way, which is super neat that you picked up on it!
Camilo's high note when all the voices are layered is SUPERB
The reason why Dolores, the one who was singing softly, talks/sings in such a soft/quiet tone is because she has the gift/power of enhanced hearing so she is very sensitive to sound.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is just sOO SOOooo good with overlapping vocals, it just expresses a very chaotic feel but it doesn't overwhelm you. I effing love thaat
fun fact: the voice actor for Camilo never sang before, this was his first time. It’s amazing how good these voice actors are.
You should definitely react to Luisa's "under the surface" song! Her singing voice is also very far from a disney princess
Yaaaa get this to the top!
mind if I copy and paste?
It's called "Surface Pressure".
@@Urube23 You can still find it 💀😭
Dolores sings so quiet/soft because her power is super hearing, so it’s probably more comfortable for her to sing that way.
You should definitely react to Surface Pressure, too, it’s another alto song :)
yeah shes sensitive to sound.
Surface Pressure is my favorite song, it's soooo good
I would LOVE to see you react to this again after seeing the movie and understanding the context more. It is SUCH A PEICE OF ART and I think you’d appreciate it EVEN MORE.
02:00
The girl singing here is Dolores. In the family that she's in, everyone has a gift. (aka powers)
Her gift is that she can hear EVERYTHING, so she sings quietly so she doesn't hurt her ears.
Not everything, she just can hear from a very large distance
@@iwillcontactattorneygenera1078 she was probably terrified when she heard Mirabel calling for help 💀💀
@@iwillcontactattorneygenera1078 and she has several younger siblings. Think about that!
@@iwillcontactattorneygenera1078 agreeing with you. when maribel and her dad were whispering across the halls, she heard it.
She also notably refers to Bruno in the present tense for her verse ("I can always hear him sorta muttering and mumbling"), unless specifically refering to an event he took part in that did take place in the past ("Always left Abuela and the family bumbling").
Which makes the line "Do you understand" all the more foreboding, especially as Bruno is in the background of this scene on the balcony, where Delores would absolutely be able to hear him.
u should definitely do a “dos orugitas” reaction, that song is so beautiful
Literally obsessed it’s so beautiful it had me in tears
you wrote that wrong but ok- lol please try not to offend me?-
@@jessig1983everyone makes mistakes they didn’t mean to offend you.
How he thought Isabella was the main character. She does give off main character energy.
She's the "Disney princess"
I think that Dolores soft vocals help make Camilo part even better. The difference in their voices makes the part more impactful.
This movie has a LOT of female lower vocal ranges represented which not only is unheard of in Disney but is pretty rare in broadway and musicals in GENERAL. As an alto I was very happy for once to hear a lot of songs that I don't have to hard pitch alter to sing along with lol
2:26 everyone loves Camilo’s voice. It’s a fact of life.
The songs were written by Lin-Manuel, the man who wrote and plays Hamilton in the Hamilton play. So the fact that it sounds like it comes from musical-theater is because of that! It's such an amazing movie, so I would definitely recommend watching it!
He wrote musical In the Heights (and played lead character too). Maybe reaction for movie version?
Also directed the movie Tick, Tick…BOOM!
The main character in this movie voiced by Stephanie Beatriz also plays Rosa Diaz on the show Brooklyn 99 and her voice is so different than her voice in Encanto I couldn't believe it was the same person. It's wild how talented she is.
1:10 Really wanted to hear a comment about how she sings “hurricane”, I don’t know why but it sounds AMAZING.
The acceleration on the music is an unmissable characteristic as well
Lin is an incredible artist like he’s so talented he leaves like a little bit of him in every song he writes.
She is such a phenomenal actor and voice actor. Her range is incredible.
The actress you reacted to had played in brooklyn nine nine she naturally has a pretty high voice but for her rôle on b99 she talks in a low. It's actually amazing to compare her in interviews and her b99 character (roza diaz)
I can never get used to seeing her as herself and then as Rosa. Amazing actress!
She also plays Gloria's sister in Modern Family and acts and sounds just like Gloria
Stephanie Beatriz has range
the lady who plays mirabel (the lead) was also in ' In the heights' and she sings in a different style there too!
For her to sing loudly is like having super vision and staring at really bright vivid colours
i can’t believe you actually reacted to this!! it’s my fav song atm. it’s so catchy especially Pepa’s part.
Dolores and Camilo's part are definitely my favorites
Not him skipping over “Isabela, your boyfriend’s here!” And the whole “Time for Dinner” chaos 💀😂
Loving the double update, tristan working double to make us happy
you need to watch the entire movie now!!! its one of disneys best i stg.
Notice how Camilo’s voice changed when he sang “Yeah, he sees your dreams, and feast on your screams.” towards the end when all the voices over lap.
The whole encanto soundtrack is sooo good😍
Reason for the more “musical theatre” sound is cuz the songs were written by Lin Manuel-Miranda, so the songs have a more theatrical vibe :)
1:48 Lin Manuel Miranda helped write a lot if not all of the songs in this movie. Which kind of fits with what you said about the vocals being like those from musical theater as he does write musicals.
2:35 Apparently, not just the family, but the entire village have never heard the phrase "don't shoot the messenger".
yesss react to more of them. you mentioned it sounded more musical theatre, lin manuel miranda wrote all the songs lol
1:55 I love the actress who plays Dolores’ voice she was my favourite character in this movie! That “oh nOOo” at 2:30 was so beautiful! Also, I love how the alto representative in this movie aren’t villains!!
yooo. I just got into Encanto, SO glad I did
Yeah, it's so good!
That's how perfect Isabella is.. she was assumed the mc for her singing alone haha
2:49
“He told me ill lose all my hair!!”
Tristan: It happens to us all.
Also tristan: *Has a GREAT head of hair*
Hey Tristan, I think you really should do a whole movie review, trust me this movie is worthy even if you can’t put all the movie please put a version with all the songs In TH-cam and tell us about your thoughts and reactions cuz I would like to know. I also enjoy the complexity of this song so much!
I was just thinking yesterday “when is Tristan going to react to Encanto?” Yes, I’d love to hear more of your thoughts!
“I love this dude’s voice” we all do
My daughter absolutely loves this movie. She was singing all the songs as the movie was being promoted. We saw it during it's premiere weekend, and she hasn't stopped! It's cute honestly, but I truly loved this movie.
lin manuel miranda starter pack:
in the heights- 96,000
hamilton- nonstop
encanto- we don’t talk about bruno
i think the guy singing Camilo perfectly captured that story telling aspect, hes very expressive not just because of his shapeshifting power, but because he accentuates and stresses a few words at appropriate times
I am begging for you to watch the full movie! That explains SO MUCH about the characters and why they sing and perform the way they do!!!
YES PLEASE!!! It will give context to each character and song!
2:55 not him simping on isabela
Me simping over Camilo him ISABELLA OH YES ISABELLA A GOOD SINGER!
"This song is musically complex". That is Lin Manuel Miranda act!
4:27 not her dancing with a dead goldfish
i love this song so muchhh!! glad you’re reacting to it
I love everything that you pointed out without watching the film because it shows how well they were able to portray everyone even without context.
