I was talking to my koi dealer last weekend, they told me there has been a strong strain of fluke last year and this year and they've suffered and taken all the koi off sale. They have recommended lurnex pro. Downside for me is that its cost me £200 for 2 doses for my pond 😂 Bloody fish cost me more than it does to keep me and the wife and the kids
@@KoiPondLifestyle yeah its pretty big, didn't think of these issues i could have when building it. It costs a fortune in treatments, clay. I remember filling it when I built it. Took 8 days at 4 lpm seemed like an eternity
Try mixing prazi with vodka. Not a joke. I've heard it many times in forums. It would have been interesting if you mixed a small solution of Lernex pro and put a drop on the side of the cover slip, let defuse, and see how the fluke react. I've done something similar with PP. It was armageddon for anything moving! Great video Andy one of your best vids.
Hi Andy, great video as usual, can't wait to see the results, let's just hope it works for you my friend. Keep the videos going I've actually learnt a lot from them, even though you are still also learning (every days a school day) as you say. They are very informative. Thank you

I got my gold fishes only 2 months ago. My pond was built for my turtle Joy. I used lifeguard tetra when i notice the red spots in the scales. It says will treat most fishes diseases. I placed my fishes in a small tank 40 gallon for treatment. Every 24h 4 pills. Basically it has bactericide, fungicide and dewormer similar to the one used for humans round worm. First day water was cloudy but didn't affect fishes. Second day you see the small filaments partially out of skin. At this point they were dead i guess. I continued treatment for the 5 days in instructions. Meanwhile i made a partial water change in the pond and added aquarium salt to the water to kill any harmful parasites in my pond. I cleaned algae too. I have normal pond filter and uv filter. Than i placed fishes back. It was weeks ago and no recurrent problem.
Every year I get 4 fish that get carp pox on the side of the body by the tail. This year I have non and put this down to some salt in the pond over winter and putting Acriflavine in the pond normal dose in December then a 30ml top up every month.
I share your pain with this fluke epidemic. It always seems to happen when everything is going too well in the pond. Thanks for the informative video, hope your koi are better!🙂
Hiya, Thanks for that. Yes you are so right. Just when you think its going well seems to have been my and many other pond owners theme since March. However It does look like my pond is out of the other side now.. The pond does look like its back to normal. For the time being...🤔😉👍

Treated for Flukes yesterday, one flashed this morning but they all seemed happy and feeding well. Was disappointing not to see more of a reaction from the fish when the dose went in. I only found one Fluke on a single scrape, that was after a good few minutes looking too. I'm using Vetark Fluke-Solve veterinary. See how I get on I guess. Make sure you disinfect the aquarium too.

It seems that this season many of you in the UK are suffering from Flukes. When I was there I also experienced a number of other problems. What I would like to suggest is that instead of using drugs and microscopes as a coping strategies, we need to build up our strength and immunity so that we are less susceptible to flukes. I have always thought that it would be more progressive to focus on this.
Hi, Thanks for that. The thing with the UK is many ponds aren't heated so as the fish come out of winter, weak and vunerable, the parasites take hold and get a head start on the rest of the pond before the fish can fully recover from winter. If you have any ideas how we can build the immunity and strength with winter in mind, I'm all ears as the current Fluke epademic is proving to be a nightmare.. Cheers.🤔👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle It is not efficient to spend more on fuel in winter and it is not desirable in the long term for KOI to lose its seasonal character. (With the exception of TOSAI and up to 2SAI KOI.) I always think that the summer water temperature and the accumulation of nutrients and the strengthening of the immune system should be more important.
I had not had flooks before two years ago when I had a heron get at my pond. Despite the pond being half above ground, it still got a lot of the home bred fry (not a problem in itself, as I didn't want them) As heron go from pond to pond, I think it could have been the source of my fluk problem. Or the odd pair of mating toad's from my wildlife pond.
Another interesting video. I’d ditch the round stick and replace it with a stainless hand whisk. Mine was nicked from the kitchen 😂 You mentioned another fish, and my recommendation would be a decent Asagi… stunning fish 🙂 Fingers crossed the treatment works 🤞🏼
Andy I think you have come to the only sensible conclusion that there is. There are far too many variables in set ups and also local conditions to endorse the a go to product for all. I like many others visit FB groups and watch channels like yours hoping to find some answers to sometimes very frustrating problems. ( and some great ideas as well of course 😀) I did try the M after watching you use it a couple of weeks back. 2 doses over a couple of weeks as they were still flashing after the first. Turned UV back on yesterday, it looks like it’s worked for me fingers crossed. Anyhow open mind is what’s needed I suppose and be prepared to disappointed but go again. I hope this product sorts out Gary and the clan. Another great video cheers
Hiya, thanks for the feedback and yes the conclusion seemed to be the best one to me, from what I'd seen from others and tested myself. Glad you enjoyed the video..cheers 😉👍
Hiya, depends what product your using? It's usually after 7 days as you have to catch the eggs as they hatch to kill them off as well. It should give you the dosing on the pack... Good luck getting rid of this critters!🤨😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle Thanks for replying so quick.. its the Lernex I went with. Did the treatment yesterday and still flashing today, a bit mire than before so im guessing its fluke nuke time..
Ahh Lernex. If its the 'pro' I re-dosed after 7 days even though the pack said 14, as I'd seen others recommending it to catch the eggs should any been left behind. Here's the video of my Lernex Pro last year. th-cam.com/video/VEwFOCmqVJY/w-d-xo.html
Hi pal , I called vetark that make fluke solve as I bought it and didn’t work for me , ( neither did lernex, Kusuri formalin and malachite green , anyway they have made fluke solve plus as they recon flukes have a new strain that is resistant to the treatments, I used it and it also has the stuff lernex has but has another ingredient too bug it does mix really easy though a lot easier than the lernex pal , I hope you get them this time pal , the fluke solve plus worked by the way but it’s expensive though £65 for 100g , good luck pal great video too
Hiya, Glad you enjoyed the video and thank for the feedback. I could do with the Lernex nailing it this time... If not then another product test will be needed?? Cheers 😉👍
Apparently after your last treatment you noticed the koi flashing, according to a video I watched by Adam Julian that’s normal, it’s the fluke being hit by the treatment which causes them to bite so those signs are good, hope you get a positive result, great video. 👍
Hi @anthonywatkins2783 I just did a bath with PP for my goldfish (out of tank plastic tub treatment). Upon returning I saw her flashing on her gills in short period of time at least 5 times. So could it be that parasite was detaching? Is that what you implied in your comment? 🥹🤞🏻
@@kristinabarkovic4525 Hi, yes that was what I meant, when I treated my koi pond for fluke which I found on one of my koi having done a scrape and using my microscope, my koi almost immediately went into flashing mode but that stopped within a short period of time, I’ve had no issues since, keep an eye on your fish, observation is the key, best wishes. 🤞
I've also found that the fish flash around as the treatment attacks the parasite. This always calms down after a little while as the parasite dies off the fish..😉👍
@@anthonywatkins2783 @KoiPondLifestyle Thank you so much for answering the both of you! 😇🤗 Well they didn't flash while in the PP treatment or do any twitching. They did that in main tank without presence of PP. Hope it's still a good sign.
What magnification did u use when using the microscope Budd ?? Always interested how other use there's as being abit like urself learning as I go along and info would be amazing 😁😁
Hiya, I use x40 to x100 for majority of scanning and I used the x400 for Costia as that cant really be identified through the lower maginifications. Cheers..😉👍
Trident approch Fluke P Malichite and Formalin 4 days fluke P then put malichite and formalin in with it for the rest of the 7 days. Me yes me I would also put sea salt in 100 oz to 1000 gallon.
A walk on the wild side of death that was me tonight painting the decking on the pond and suddenly a strange noise could not place it then a big bang and black smoke passing in front of me all the garden lights went off and everything in the pond stopped I could now smell burning lifting the wooden cover on my filters bay and electrics I could see the power supply to the UVC had melted and gone up with a bang although the RCD had tripped the power supply was still smouldering and was so hot taking over 90 minutes to cool enough to touch.
Hiya, You sure could make it work. There are some great lights out there for under water use. I used to have a pond with the lighting installed in the pond itself like a swimming pool. The issues I found were the algae growth will continually grow over the light lense so will need constant cleaning. The lighting unit itself usually has rubber seals that once start to perish will need replacing so if your lights are near the bottom you'll need to drain the water off to get to them. As with changing bulbs, which nowadays is better due to LED lights that last forever.. I personally have avoided lights in the pond and opted for down lighting thats easy access and if your having a wooden structure over the pond could work well. Short term they are great but long term can be a pain to look after.. Hope this helps.. 😉👍

Also i dont know if you watch Ramseys D.I.Y Koi Pond but he has a very similar filter to you his last video is very interesting he has been getting lots of problems with flukes thinks it's his moving bed not saying yours is like that but was just a thought x
Yes I saw that. Wasn't it an issue with the muck he'd left on the base of the media bit though which can be a breading ground as I hear Fluke have been known to live in K1 type media?? 🤔
@@KoiPondLifestyle why wouldn't the fluke treatment treat the filter media at the same time? I think the 2nd treatment would be a better precaution than skipping. Great video as normal mate.
Need some help. what would be the best treatment for FLUKE as i have a pond that has a mixed fish species . Mirror carp Koi Tench and Rudd. and one or two Goldfish i had purchase Potassium Permangante but reading up on it says harmful to Tench and Rudd. Could you please suggest any alternative? have 4 fish that this is happening to now.
Hiya, I have Koi, old fish and Tench in my pond and have used PP, all Fluke treatments and FMG and had no issues with my fish. However I don't have any Rudd so cant comment on how that fish would react to the treatments I have used in the past. I found Lernex Pro sorted my Fluke out but it seems different ponds react differently to different each treatment. Sorry I don't have a solid answer for you there...🤔
O.K i did full test on my water all levels are ok nitrate little over than i would like but acceptable. so getting something for that. They advised just using the PP as a dip for the fish not using in the whole pond as this will disrupt the pond balance and bacteria. So they advised salting the pound so i will do that and dip the fish in PP but need to work out the measurement for that. they said i need to get a vet to look at the fish and test for FLUKE.
I think you under dosed, there should of been a blue measuring cup/spoon thing which you didn’t have as the instructions say it in ml not grams which would give a different reading, I think I used half the bottle of product on a 10k pond. Might be worth checking it. As your pond didn’t seem very cloudy either. There is some instructions for use at different temps as well but I can’t post the picture of it Edit link hope it helps shop.selectkoi.nl/en/colombo-morenicol-lernex-pro.html
@@KoiPondLifestyle not sure I assumed to were using grams with the scales lol. But do check that link out it does show different temps and when to redose
@@KoiPondLifestyle sorry I posted that without watching till the end 🥴 i think (as i mentioned before) any ‘one hit’ treatment simply cannot work with parasites due to the life cycle of parasites. I mentioned previously i used Waterlife Parazin P and thats added over 10 days. Some of my fish looked awful. I PP’d but that didnt go down well and then tried the Parazin. After the the second dose on day 3 things looked soooo much better. I really hope you get sorted. Id like to say your fish care is spot on and I really like how you treat them. Especially Gary. 😁
Hi I dosed Lernex for the first time after flukes diagnose and koi have started flashing vigorously, after 4 days from the dose still flashing is it normal?
Hiya. Fluke can get into the pond a number of ways. New fish can bring them into a pond. Birds are known to carry them and drop them into the pond through their waste or while drinking from the pond? I hear that if you scrape a slug, Fluke are usually found on them, so if they end up in your pond they drop off when the slug dies. They also sit dormant on the fish in winter when the temps are low, so catch the fish out when they become active as they temps rise and the fish in vulnerable coming out of winter (unless the pond is heated)? Hope this helps..😉👍
Your not treating it right you need turn you pumps off leave air stone on for 3 hours and over dose them better then under dosing use a bit warm water when you mix it .your not gunna get it gone do more treatments like I told you dosen't matter what one you use just like I said and get in itln there fast it needs cloud the water up .

I think your 100% right andy, every pond reacts diffrently to every treatment..... i had a go with flukasol it done nothing, tried fluke s and fluke p again nothing yet when i tried cloverleafs absolute fluke it worked.. ive used absolute fluke everytime since and its worked although i did have todo 3 doses last time round so maybe my ponds going off that too lol.... same with everything in this hobbie though mate its all trial and error 👍🐟
I was talking to my koi dealer last weekend, they told me there has been a strong strain of fluke last year and this year and they've suffered and taken all the koi off sale. They have recommended lurnex pro.
Downside for me is that its cost me £200 for 2 doses for my pond 😂
Bloody fish cost me more than it does to keep me and the wife and the kids
Hiya. You must have a large Pond to need £200 of product. I think I have enough for the second dose that I'm hoping I don't need.. 🤞🤞 cheers😉👍
Hiya, thanks for the feedback. Use my Vodka.. mmmm I have to think about that one. Fish on vodka 😋. Glad you enjoyed the video...😉👍
Hi Andy, great video as usual, can't wait to see the results, let's just hope it works for you my friend.
Keep the videos going I've actually learnt a lot from them, even though you are still also learning (every days a school day) as you say. They are very informative. Thank you
Hiya, Glad your enjoying the videos and they are helping you. Cheers 😉👍
Hope you nail them this time I had the same problem tried fluke m with a treatment of chloramine t 24hrs before with no joy then done a treatment of lernex pro no more flashing or spitting food all the best keep up the videos really enjoy !
Thank you. Good luck with your Fluke and glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers..😉👍
Great video 😊What microscope do you have ?
Hiya, glad you enjoyed the video. I think I just trawled through amazon and found one that goes to at least x400 so I can see Costia but was affordable. Think I paid around £90..🤔😉👍
I am planning to use Prazi Powder for flukes. From all im seeing is best for flukes
Hi, Sounds like youve sussed that one then...😉👍 Thanks for watching..
For the time being...🤔😉👍
Another great video Andy, I used lernex pro yesterday the koi seem to be fine and 0 flashing for now, fingers x we found the right product to get rid of these flukes, looking forward to seeing the new collection👍🏻take care
Cheers, Unsure if the Lernex has done it as I stll seem to have unhappy Koi but I have another dose to do in 2 weeks then if no joy its back to the drawing board.. Cheers..😉👍
Have you cut out the food completely after treating or just less feeding ?
@@just4koi143 less feeding mate. I wasn't sure how much so just 2-3 times a day of small handfuls. TBH they aren't eating alot at the moment anyway..🤔😕
Fluke Treatments have been flying off the shelf's this year the dam things seem to have bulletproof jackets on as well
We should re-name them Super Flukes..? 🤔😉👍
We need a winner in the treatments for it that's for sure
Agreed dose for what you find. But salt is a natural amazing remedy
Hiya. Thanks for that. Good point on the aquarium.. Cheers..😉👍
Hi Andy another great vid as always, can't wait to see the result of the Lernex as i think i may need it aswell as i have a couple of fish not to happy and they are flicking and jumping,
PS, your little gifts are in the post sent to steve.....
All the best Kevin.

@@KoiPondLifestyle
Hi andy so glad you liked them i have posted on your new video, sorry to hear about gary x
Hiya, yes it's how they get into the pond as well??🤔🤔👍
Another interesting video. I’d ditch the round stick and replace it with a stainless hand whisk. Mine was nicked from the kitchen 😂 You mentioned another fish, and my recommendation would be a decent Asagi… stunning fish 🙂 Fingers crossed the treatment works 🤞🏼
Hiya, is gunna have to be a cheap shop whisk, as my wife has a good memory for what's in the kitchen...🤣🤣😉👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle LOL! Haven't they all.... "Where's my measuring jug gone?!!"
Great vid, if have done a fluke treatment but im told its best to do two. Any idea how long I shoukd leave between treatments please?

I've just had to treat my pond for fluke, my dealer recommended this one from NT Labs Flukasol,
worked with just one dose!!
Nice. Lucky guy 👍😉
Hiya, yes tour right hence me scrapeing again just to double check the Fluke were still there to treat. Glad you enjoyed the video.. cheers 😉😉👍
Cheers..😉👍
Hi mate the best way to mix lernex is in hot water and run it through an electric blender for 2 minutes.
I saw someone using a food blender... Erm the wife wouldn't be impressed so I'll stick with the stick...😉👍

What are your thoughts on building the lighting into the brick work as a pond is in the building process?? Could I make it work?

👍👍👍🙂
😉👍
I think you under dosed, there should of been a blue measuring cup/spoon thing which you didn’t have as the instructions say it in ml not grams which would give a different reading, I think I used half the bottle of product on a 10k pond. Might be worth checking it. As your pond didn’t seem very cloudy either. There is some instructions for use at different temps as well but I can’t post the picture of it
Edit link hope it helps

Is the Lernex Pro a once only treatment Andy?
It says on the pack that it can be redosed again after 14 days if required..🤔👍
@@KoiPondLifestyle sorry I posted that without watching till the end 🥴 i think (as i mentioned before) any ‘one hit’ treatment simply cannot work with parasites due to the life cycle of parasites. Did it work?
The Lernex Pro seemed to work alot better at that time...😉
Hi I dosed Lernex for the first time after flukes diagnose and koi have started flashing vigorously, after 4 days from the dose still flashing is it normal?
Where do flukes come from ?
@@KoiPondLifestyle thank you 👍🏻
Your not treating it right you need turn you pumps off leave air stone on for 3 hours and over dose them better then under dosing use a bit warm water when you mix it .your not gunna get it gone do more treatments like I told you dosen't matter what one you use just like I said and get in itln there fast it needs cloud the water up .
fluke solve is the only one that works
Fluke Solve is just a “brand name”, it contains the exact same active ingredient as other treatments such as Kusri Fluke S.
