- I wish I knew this before Purchasing, Do not drive your Cayman without this ! The Porsche Cayman has a design flaw that may end up causing you to spend thousands in repairs over the lifetime of ownership. In this video I share my recent experience after owning the 2021 Porsche 718 Cayman S for barely one month! I ended spending nearly 2k in repairs for something that can easily be prevented. Please help make Cayman Owner's aware of this issue and hopefully we can even get Porsche to Recall or at minimum correct in future models.

I've had three Caymans. This problem is not limited to our cars. This issue is present in the 911 models as well. I believe (my opinion) that Porsche is very well aware of the issues that can come from not having the screens protecting those vital radiators, but they have created a cottage industry of companies that make the screens for all the various models and configurations. And yes, you are right that anyone buying a "premium" automobile like Porsche should be able to have such issues resolved. If you want to talk about design flaws, this isn't the only one. Wait until your door panels start warping or your headliner starts resting on your head! They know about these things but leave the owner holding the bag if they aren't caught within the warranty period. There is an upholstery shop in my hometown that has made a huge amount of money replacing Porsche headliners. Likewise, "Pedro" down in Florida is raking in the bucks fixing the warping door panels that Porsche's supplier hasn't been able to resolve (it's an issue with the 987's and 981's, I don't know about the 718's). Especially after so many years of various models having the same known issues. Porsche North America could have done a goodwill repair, especially on a car you bought brand new and had only been driving a month. And I also agree with someone who commented here that there was no need to replace the radiator and that it could have easily been repaired for very little cost. But that is not how things work at the dealerships. Nobody repairs anymore. Everything is plug-and-play replaceable. Sorry for your bad luck! Cutting corners like these are inexcusable in a premium automobile.
Not very comforting to know about other design flaws, I still feel it’s a great car. I strongly believe in the future Caymans and 911s will come standard with mesh grilles . In defense of the service department I bought the car out of state and had to take it to a different dealer to get repaired so there was no real customer loyalty in doing a courtesy repair. I agree I think the radiator could’ve been fixed but I hadn’t known what the issue was until it was properly inspected and taking a brand new Porsche to a non-Porsche service department just didn’t seem like a desirable option although in the future I may consider it. On the other hand I have a slightly damaged radiator for a 718-2021 Porsche I can sell

If damage is caused by a flying object its a comp loss. A comp loss is not something they can surcharge you for on your policy, the state would not allow them to do that. Can you lose a no claim discount, yes. Can you get cancelled if you have a high claims frequency, yes... but they cant surcharge you like they can for an at fault loss. If someone is concerned I would bring it up to an underwriting manager for confirmation.
L Gaff is correct, it’s considered a “missile” and similar to hitting an animal, not a “collision” but a comp loss. You’d be responsible for your deductible, but they cannot use it against you to underwrite a higher premium
I have owned 4 Boxsters over the past 20 years. I have always installed aftermarket mesh into my Boxsters' front intakes from new. I saw the potential problem from day one and dealt with it. I guess you are unlucky that you never saw the potential for a stone to hit the condenser radiator or the middle engine coolant radiator. I agree with you that Porsche should install mesh as part of the car, in all their cars, but they don't.
Indeed , a stone lodging itself into my condenser was not on my mind. But it is now. Silly of me to think a new 89k sport car would be road ready

I had the exact same issue on my 911 (991) last year, same story from OPC that it re stone damage. A new condenser was also required, cost was around £1000 in UK
I had the same issue. Replaced the radiator and installed Rennline mesh grills on my 981 GTS to ensure no reoccurrence.
Happens more often than people would think , sorry my friend.such a needless expense. I strongly believe future Porsche caymans and 911’s will all come standard with mesh grilles it’s only a matter of time .

You bought insurance from the cheapest insurance and what you get is a company that won’t cover damages and will use it to raise your rates and they hope you will move to another insurance company. Change to State Farm- they are not predatory towards their customers.
While this may be true, The goal is not to have the insurance cover these incidences but rather prevent them from happening altogether . Thus The implementation of installing a mesh grill, Accidents will happen but if we can greatly reduce their probability that would be the greatest desired goal. But good insurance it’s good to have
You can patch the small hole for $50. Absolutely no need to replace the entire condenser. Not even remove from the car to fix it.

It's a well known problem. Zunsport makes wire mesh grill protectors. I installed them on my 718 in 15 minutes. No need to take the bumper apart.
Apparently not well known enough for Porsche to do anything about it.

Yeah this issue is not limited to Porsche. This happens a lot on AMG vehicles with lots of exposure to the radiators and oil coolers. Very common issue here in Arizona where rocks are flying everywhere. Lol
I has an aftermarket grille installed like the video owner. But I guess Porsche is listening to owners complaints, and they have developed and updated a retrofit grill designed specifically for the side air intakes on 718 free of charge in North America. I have just received a letter from Porsche telling me to make an appointment for the upgrade.

Just bought myself the ZunSport Grille set for my 981 Cayman S yesterday. Should have installed shortly after I got my car back in 2020 to be honest but better late than never.

Great video. Considering the cost of the cars and their profit margins are epic, they really should have this as a cheap option....they could even make money on this.....sort of short sighted on their part.
I am with you it’s a great topics you have highlighted. The issue are with me the Sim also I have came in S 2015 and at the time I purchased this vehicle I noticed this issue so I purchased a grill from company I mean set party company.
I bought the front grill mesh from radiator grill store for my Cayman, my son worked in a shop and cleaned out the grills and put the mesh on.

Definitely a design oversight, I’ve had my 981 GTS for a month and just had the main centre rad punctured by a stone, lost coolant and warned to stop driving. Had it recovered to Porsche and awaiting a huge bill out of warranty 😢
How is your 981 GTS ownership going? I'm seriously considering buying one because I think it's the pinnacle cayman model that I can afford. Also considering a newer 718s, but I really want that flat 6. I realize I'm replying a year after you made your comment but It'd be interesting to hear about your time with the car.

I've seen factory radiator mesh on the 911 GT3, as they are designed to be track cars whether they ever see that duty or not. You can purchase aftermarket or make your own radiator mesh, as this will stop the damage you have or filling up the radiators with leaves and insects.
GT products come with the Mesh Grills, the rest of us are forced to fend for ourselves.
I have a 981 and noticed the potential problem when road debris was in the intake area. I made my own mesh grills. No problems, I agree with all here, PORSCHE should address this and make it right
We love Porsche cars own them, enjoy them but quality of certain parts and build quality they just suck at it. A Hyundai would out last it. But people love the performance and prestige side of it. Most will own and trade in after 40k 60k miles and get a new one so they don't deal with the things that don't last
Not only a Porsche issue. I think the problem with factory fitting mesh is that most owners won’t clean them when full of leaves/debris. This can cause overheating and consequentially a much bigger problem
Definitely not only a Porsche issue, as you see in the video the new C8 has also had some issues with open grills as well. I did notice a leaf stuck to the mesh grill but it was easily noticeable and removable, not sure if this is the reasoning behind not adding them, but. I will still make the case that the top of the line GT4 comes with a factory mesh installed.. why would it be ok for one model and not the other ?
Couldn't the radiator and condenser also be clogged by leaves and debris and cause overheating issues? It's a lot easier to clean a mesh grill than to have to spray down a condenser coil and radiator and get everything out of them.
I put these on my two boxters. cut them out myself for 16 bucks this time. Keep an eye on the screens and clean them occasionally.
I’ve had 3 Boxsters, the 1st a 987 had the problem 15 years ago. My new 718 had the heater fan fail as well as the indicator switch, the Turbo, the battery and most annoying of all, the paint is incredibly thin and chips off all along the sills and the front of the rear wheel arches.
They’re lovely cars, but hard to tolerate if you’re used to Mercedes reliability
Interesting you say that, but Mercedes is now in the top bottom ten lowest reliability charts in the last 5 years.
@@TAGE_FPV Obviously I can only speak from my personal experience, but I’ve had three Mercs, the current one is 2019 and the others 2012 and 2014 all C class and almost no trouble at all.
My current Boxster S with 16000 miles has two engine mounts fail at £2.300, a year later another failed and the heater fan plus the alarm module for £400. I gave the fan a spin and it’s working again.
A quick search shows the problems are common.
VW’s problems internal problems are well known and I assume this is a factor and that excellent PR and ad spend keeps reliability problems quiet.
Yeah need to put a mesh to protect this and also the radiator as car is so low rocks with get kicked in and do damage.
They did recall my 718 to instal finer mesh into the side air intakes. To prevent stones and debris from entering the engine and causing a massive engine failure.

just b/c it's premium doesn't mean it's quality. my miata i bought 25 yrs ago still work fine no damage at all. no joke.
Considering how much you spent on it I feel Porsche should at least give something to at least cover the grill. I'm assuming that if it cost you $200 porsche should get it at a lot less. I dont think that I would mind spending an extra $100 on the MSRP of the Cayman if it brings me peace of mind.

This happens to all cars. Happened to our 25 year old van w 225k miles on it. For my little Honda I threw some $5 chicken wire around the front bumper with some screws to prevent the same. This is Not a Porsche design flaw.

that has Parts exposed, as in your chicken wire solution seems like an easy fix. You may not have considered Honda to have committed a design flaw. But nevertheless You felt the desire to add wire mesh to prevent a more costly problem. The whole point is that Porsche or Honda, or any other manufacturer can prevent this with the simple solution, or they can allow the consumer to do that…..

Now my M3 does have a mesh grill covering the condenser. Never an issue in 15 years. And I drive it like i stole it and hang it up wet. Why? Cause I’m kinda broke, its not a Porsche, and I bought it to drive it hard.
Your insurance is trash. A no-fault accident shouldn’t raise your premium much less a minor ass one like that that only costs them $1000-$1500 depending on your deductible.
I agree it shouldn’t. I Was told that it most likely would go up when I when I would go to renew my policy. Some comments have mentioned other insurance companies do not raise premiums for such events. However I would highly advise you to ask the right questions when talking to your insurance about matters like this you may think you’re not paying anything immediately but later on you will. I don’t think I trust any insurance company when it comes to making a claim on your own policy. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

It's a very old problem unfortunately. Right back to 996 and 986 days, if not earlier. I bought some mesh and fitted it myself on my 2005 Boxster but I'd find it pretty annoying to have to retrofit anything to a brand new car.
Yes annoying indeed. I wonder what reasoning Porsche has for not addressing it.. I can only think not enough attention has been brought to Porsche to act in correcting it.
Porsche are aware of this issue and they've even fixed it by adding a protective grill/mesh in their more expensive models. The only reason I can imagine that they are refusing to fix this "bug" for the cheaper models is because they mostly see it as a feature. Porsche make a lot of their money by selling their customers expensive fixes and I've heard that getting a leaky radiator replaced can cost around $2K, so actually fixing this design issue would just end up costing the company money.
Yeah this can literally occur to any car with any type of condenser in the front grill or oil cooler or trans cooler. Not a design flaw by any means it’s put in the front. I had a ford car with an air to water intercooler with a puncture just like that. So it can happen to any car.
@John Adams I really can’t disagree you made some good points. I view things from a cost saving standpoint being I work for a major auto manufacturer and usually the question in this type of an instance is occurrence, risk, safety vs how many times a piece of debris will pierce the core. In this case Porsche may have just said it’s not worth the money and is willing to risk a low occurring claim and let the design ride. I’ve seen it before. Should we expect more and better form Porsche yes, I totally agree with you.

Parts is ridiculous and most of the time its the same as a VW or Audi but marked up 2x or 3x.

There's an aftermarket grill for caymans that I have personally installed on mine as well. It's very thin and lightweight, costs only about $300, and it catches all sorts of rocks and road debris, stopping it from hitting my radiators. would highly recommend this to anybody who has a porsche that does come with the grill stock

First porsche should install this if not list at an option than its up to you but just ignore the issue c’mon not fair. Yes the Insurance is scum so is the Gov. You need insurance by law and w.t.f insurance co they just take advantage covered by Gov.
If you're put out by the lack of screens in the Porsche's, wait until your door panels start to warp and the headliner starts sagging on your head! Yes, these are great cars, but these minor annoyances can get costly, are inconvenient, and quite frankly should never have happened. And they should be covered by Porsche. Heck, they should fix these design flaws for future models, and why they haven't irritates every Porsche owner I know that has had to remedy them on their own. And there are plenty! Go to any of the Porsche forums (Planet 9, Rennsport, etc) and you will find a LONG history of complaints on these issues that Porsche still refuses to address. It goes with the territory I guess, even though you would expect better from a "premium brand" like Porsche.
I have heard these complaints before by other owners , not looking forward to dealing with any of them, as consumers of the Porsche products all we can do is voice our concerns on whatever platform is available I know forums are very active however you usually join the forum after you purchase a Porsche most future owners go to TH-cam first To find a review . I feel that TH-cam could possibly be a better platform to draw attention hopefully they will remedy in future models
I have a 2014 981, replaced headliner and doo panel, also made my mesh grills. Expect better from a premium car company. But all things considered, damn this car is AWESOME 🏎

First thing I did when I got my cayman was order from radiator grill store. Should've been like $60 not $200. Sorry to hear about your bad luck.
SF you are correct, the front Grills where only about that price I had optioned in the side intake grills for the engine which pushed the price just over 200.

Same here, I did alot of research before I bought my Cayman it's on if the first things I did was get grill guards and new tires

Very common and they can also become leaf collectors. The mesh grills are a must.

Had already replaced mine after the first year of ownership. Dealership over here is against any sort of minimal modifications. Installing a net might void the warranty. Ridiculous.
Dealerships make lots of money in repairs so preventing possible damage by proactively placing a screen would be cutting into their business so they threaten you with voiding warranty.

The only flaw is if you buy the car that has the PDK.
The manual transmission will soon be a thing of the past more and more sport cars are discontinuing them. One day we will walk through a museum pass by a cassette player, a pager , a Datsun and a child will ask what is that? That’s a stick shift son , back in my day we used to change gears ourselves . Up and down , even reverse..
Porsche has been making cars with open grilles like this since 1997 and the 996. I'm sure they do it so to ensure an ongoing revenue stream for condensers. A trap for young players. Surprised they don't offer an option.

You're right , this is a bad design , mesh grids should be on every Cayman model to avoid the condenser to be ruined by debris or stones

It’s a small fix most owners are already adding to their naked condensers on their own. maybe bad design is a bit harsh but maybe that what it needs to be called to get Porsche to possibly act and add a little fix. It’s not a problem til of course it is a problem and your faced with a whopping bill that could’ve been avoided. Save the condensers!!
to repair a dangling headliner on a Cayman put a strong magnet in the middle ov the top on the inside .
My S arrives next week and this got me panicking hahah hopefully UPS priority mail comes up clutch. Anyone know what the side grills look like? i didn't get the vents for them just the fronts
Not sure what the percentage is of something happening but I’m sure you’ll be fine but I would get them on soon as possible, I also purchased the side grills haven’t installed them yet since that requires a more in-depth installation
I know this is 2 years old, but wanted to share that a piece of rubber presumably from a tire flew into my side air intakes and broke a fan in there. I installed my own metal grates there as well.
Porsche had a recall to install the vents for the side air intakes I assume for issues similar yours, not sure what models but hopefully it will help to prevent these issues. But of course when a determined piece of rubber or tiny rock has your name on it there’s not much you can do.
Ok I’m amazed you call it a design flaw, it’s like saying the lights are positioned in front of the car so easy get broken by stone chips, radiators and condensers need air flow over them to work efficiently , so the best place is front of cars, this is not a Porsche flaw, this is every car you can buy that has AC condenser or radiator , it’s part of wear and tear and costs related to it , windscreens are not cheap on Porsche but you can get a rock hit it , pay so many thousands to replace it , and 5min after getting it replaced get another rock hit it , my suggestion to you is stay well back from the car in front , including trucks to avoid stones and rocks being thrown up
It's poor designing and flawed consideration.
Perhaps not a design flaw but if the reason for not adding is airflow. Then why does the GT4 come with it and the S model, base and GTS not? Has Porsche just cheapen out on these models? I may never have this issue again and perhaps could’ve continued with no grille but I must admit I feel a bit better now that I do have them. Not sure if distancing myself from traffic would prevent much . But a good practice none the less
Just find a certified hvac technician to patch it. $150 job. However, Porsche may refuse to install it, so you need to an independent shop for installation,saving even more money.

If you think this is a design flaw, then all cars with AC condensers have this same design flaw. If a stray rock hit your headlamp while driving and cracked it enough to let condensation and moisture in, is THAT a design flaw? This is a non-issue. You drew the short straw. This is life.

Yes there are several manufacturers that provide grilles in the aftermarket .

Basically, this type of repair cost is why I sold my Cayman. Any time I need to fix anything out of warranty, it costs a arm and a leg. Great car, but ridiculous repair costs.
I sold mine for the same reason, here in Australia the repair costs are crazy. Porsche charged me $1,000 to replace the AOS that failed at 38,000 k's. I eventually could not enjoy driving the car.
The first gen Cayman is the 987. Superior design. And hydraulic steering. Flat 6. Looks like a better 911.
Personally I prefer the 3rd and 4th gen designs over the 1st and 2nd. But I would prefer the flat six engine sound over the four-cylinder turbo Sound but not performance , 4th gen has more HP quicker 0-60 and even better gas mileage. we can have opinions and preferences on body style but I don’t think Porsche is making inferior performance designs each new generation
IMO, I think the 981 is the best looking design of the Cayman, and in everyone’s opinion, the best sounding 🏎

Porsche must have been aware of this problem long ago, I've seen other videos that show similar concerns. To me, Porsche is not being a responsible company, they should have modified the design long ago to mitigate this problem.
This can happen in any car. I had this happen in my old civic Si. The condensers are exposed in many many makes and models.
I bought a boxster gts , and on delivery ask salesperson is there was a grille missing in the front!beautiful car but so ugly design under front bumper
Your first mistake was Progressive Insurance. Get AAA instead. Install some screen in front of the intercooler to prevent it. .
This is exactly why I try to drive at least a 100 feet behind cars on the highway in my G87 M2 and all my radiators still have numerous rock chips :(.
Rocks have no respect I try keeping my distance now as well and just the other day had a flying rock hit my windshield was afraid it caused a crack by luckily did not , the only safe place may be in the garage , but they were meant to be driven come what may
In the uk all models have been re called to have Mesh fitted free of charge !! You just ring the dealer and they book you a hour slot to fit them ! Problem is in the uk they will probably try and rip you off , with something else !! 717 Boxter and Cayman have loads of faults !! Wait until your Downstream exhaust senor goes , then your manifold sensor goes also !! Common and costly on these models !!

Comp claims do not raise your rates...only collision claims. I was an agent for 25 years. However, it may be determined to be a collision claim rather than a comprehensive claim. Also comp rates are very cheap...even with a super low deductible.
My agent told me any claim would affect the rate regardless, I didn’t think it was worth the risk to make the claim and take the chance , progressive
@@SketchUpArchitects That is incorrect. A comp claim in a no fault claim. Can't blame a driver for a tree falling on the car etc. Anyway, lower your comp deductible...it's super cheap! Maybe $10-15 every six months to take down to $100.
IMO it's a design flaw the opening in the front (grill) obviously should have smaller holes at the very least.

Obviously they won't do anything if it will cost a million dollars and 10 people contacted them about it ! Day 10 of owning a brand new vehicle a rock seemed to hit the headlight lens doing 300 in damage.. never happened again decades later.
You may be correct but I did hear about a recall for the side vents so there still may be a sliver of hope either way I feel better having my aftermarket grilles installed but The chances of things like this happening are probably about the same as pulling lotto numbers

Sorry to say this, but dang man, having to pay that much for a car with design flaws that Porsche obviously does not care about, that has to suck. That must be why so many Cayman S owners are selling their car with less than 10K miles on them. I can't imagine a car that expensive being bad enough to drive that you want to sell it ASAP. I was looking at the Cayman S, but putting them in the back of the line now.
I’m sure that every car no matter what the price tag can be knit picked for a design flaw or two. Let me not miss lead you to think that other cars will be design flaw free, I created this video to bring the issue to light and hopefully make a great car even better. Don’t get me wrong Porsche knows how to make The best handling sport cars on the market. and the Cayman series is arguably one of the best sport cars on the road hands-down, I think the reason you are seeing so many low mileage caymans on the market is for two reasons one the used car market is absolutely insane right now. If you are lucky enough to purchase a Cayman brand new you can turn around and sell it for more money used! The same can be said for the elusive C8 Corvette. Demand is high and supply is low right now. The second reason is well let’s be honest nobody needs a two seater high priced sport car, A Honda will give you much better gas mileage more luggage space and passenger space, it’s just a really cool car to have. Some people are burdened by too much money and the cayman becomes another overpriced garage ornament that never gets driven. Once enough Sunday afternoon drives have passed and they tire of the bragging rights these gently used , never redlined caymans find themselves back on the market for a quick flip to be replaced by the next pricey shiny sport car.
But I hope that Porsche would take note of your hesitation in purchasing and address these nuance issues.

THIS ISN"T A DESIGN FLAW! Show me ONE car manufacturer that installs protective screens on the cooling radiators. I am not aware of one. Every one of my cars, and I have owned MANY have NOT had anything protecting these radiators. I don't disagree they should have them but it has nothing to do with Porsche and your video title is BS imo. You opened the door to all the people that have ever had issues with Porsche to air out their bitches. I see people bitching about the 987's and 981's.. I have owned at least 5 991 911's and 2 718's and I have NEVER had any real problems with them. Although the PCM did fail in my 981 after warranty lol. My advice is to do like I do and if you drive it on the highway or faster roads put distance between yourself and the car in front of you. My wife drives too close to other cars and she has 2 cars that need windshield repair. I still can't get her to put distance between herself and the cars in front of her so I give up.
The 718 GT4 comes with the grill mesh there was also a recall to add a grill mesh on the side intakes as well , I’m just bringing to light the need for it on other models , I get it , could be just bad luck on my part but due to my experience I feel much better having the protective mesh than not. Look I love my Porsche as I’m sure you do as well having owned several , nothing wrong with airing grievances as a designer we need feedback from customers that’s ultimately that’s how things get fixed and improved, not by owners staying quite about issues.
@@SketchUpArchitects Like I said I don't disagree they should be there. Manufacturers know the cars can use them so they do install them in cars like the GT4 I guess. I have owned 4 McLaren's and even they don't install them. I don't understand why as there have been many people across multiple manufacturers that complain about this. That's why I took exception of the title of your video. The Corvette C8 which I have owned 2 also does not come with but there are multiple vendors selling aftermarket mesh for it. I haven't looked to see if the 718 had aftermarket shields...
@@cstraley Having the consideration for these issues, is where their flawed in design and potential problems. I'd considerate a safety issue and if you think these aren't design flaws your most likely just as scummy as these automotive manufacturers, who don't build cars to last. Manufacturers constantly cutting corners in hopes to avoid recalls, is why car companies have so many recalls.

I don’t think this is a design flaw, as it can happen to a gazillion and one other cars as well. Road damage happens and that’s just unlucky, not the fault of the car.
As for the insurance things, where I live your rates wouldn’t change unless you caused the damage or caused a crash.
Isn’t it curious that in order to pronounce it “correctly” you must misspell it? Is no one bothered by that? And in a way that defies all English grammar logic? but because it’s a name the “E” in Porsche identifies as a “uh” Therefore, we must honor this and Call it by it’s name regardless of what the rules of English grammar are … ah this would be a fun conversation to see in 3rd grade where little Johnny is arguing with the English teacher about how to pronounce Porsche. I got no problem. Calling is Porsh-uh I kind of like it actually but at the time of the video I was unaware of this.
Design flaw or not it’s easily preventable through a small modification.
I was told by someone that the rate would not change as well. Other insurance companies told me anytime they pay out your rate will most likely go up. I didn’t want to take the risk if there was another party involved. I absolutely would’ve gone with insurance, but since the other party was a Rock , I decided to just pay it out.
Porsche instituted a recall for the side intake vents so they should do likewise for this issue.
When was this recall ?

Yes. There have been two recalls for this issue.

Quite possibly , but I feel better having a grille now. I would think the chances are reduced but I haven’t seen the scientific results yet. Perhaps it’s just a placebo affect but to each their own.
I own a 981 Cayman GTS - so while my model is slightly different, the issue is essentially still the same. My pragmatic opinion is, cars clearly above the average middle class ride should feature a level of quality, attention to detail, design and functionality that is also clearly above the average middle class car. After all, the price for such a car certainly accommodates for this and should reflect this reasonable customer expectation. Otherwise, we all could clearly settle for the average middle class car and save quite a bit of money in purchasing. I think brands like Porsche should not forget the important element of "ownership experience". Hopefully someone on the executive floor at Porsche will remember this. In short, while there is no legal case for you, I absolutely think, Porsche should address and fix this issue. I am quite certain it will not cost Porsche $ 200 in manufacturing costs to make stylish, functionable and Porsche quality level radiator grills. Keeping customers happy, and not hollowing out a long earned expectation of high quality should matter for brands like Porsche. Tradition and commitment to original brand values is something that should be kept alive - it should not be all about cost control.

How many times does this happen that a rock hits one of the tubes an hard enough to puncture the tube. Not often. I suppose when your wheel gets damaged by a pothole zPorsche should pay for that also --

Just buy the aftermarket screens for $200 and solve your problem. A rounding error after spending $100,000 plus for a car. Porsche could also make navigation standard on a $100,000 plus 718 also.
But capitalism is swell. You can buy a BMW or Mercedes or any other one of a hundred car models that have screens in the front of the car. Porsche seems to have enough other customers that they won’t miss you.
Had a BMW 750xi 8 years ago and exactly the same problem. Dealership replaced the radiator but refused to cover it under factory warranty. Made a complaint to BMW NA and told them it's a design flaw. Got a full refund for the repair and on my 5th BMW now.

Boohoo you had a rock hit your car... I've ownedmany 911's and caymans and Boxsters, never ever had that issue. This is a you problem.
And hopefully you never will have this issue, But as my unfortunate event has brought to my attention and hopefully other Porsche owners,, there is a possibility of it happening, and it can be easily prevented with a fairly inexpensive grill. If I can help it, I’d rather not shell out an extra 2K for a in my humble opinion, oversight on Porsche I know that may anger many a Porsche aficionado but yes, I believe it’s an oversight, whether deliberate or unintentional. This is a me solution.

Learn to say "Porsche" properly. It's a common issue with several high performance cars, such as the AMG GT.
An unfortunate issue as I quickly learned after purchase. But no issues since grill added. I wish I had a “Porsche” for every person who brought up its correct pronunciation. Funny how when you purchase one no one cares how you say it.
