      And what's the width of the wall

    • @HafizAbass
      @HafizAbass  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our walls are 300mm thick. Formwork frames are made from metal sheeting ~2-3mm thick with a Marine board on the inside. The forms are 2.4meters long and 60cm high. The forms are placed and tied together using tie rods.

    Hi Hafiz, Is there a binder (example cement mortar between the foundation )and the rammed earth wall?
    If not what stops the wall from slipping off the foundation?

    • @HafizAbass
      @HafizAbass  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We have a movie about the foundation posted earlier. No, there is no cement binding. We however have rebars (iron rods) inserted in the foundation sticking out about 80cm.

      @@HafizAbass is this for every single wall including internal walls as well?

    • @HafizAbass
      @HafizAbass  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@l.e.sparklesfkaelliesparkl5875 internal walls don't need the rods. Even external walls don't need them to stand. It depends on your foundation design. Most people don't support the use of rods in the walls but that's very much arguable.

      When you are building at an earthquake prone area then it's advisable to use some reinforcement.

    How long does it take to construct a rammed earth home?

    • @HafizAbass
      @HafizAbass  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Meena, it depends on the type of forms you use. Mostly setting up the forms takes the most time. Besides that, ramming by hand is also slower than by a pneumatic tamper. By hand tamping, it takes ~5-6 hours to make a 2meters long by 2.4 meters high wall. We were also mixing by hand as you can see in the videos and that is also slow. That all adds up to the 5-6 hours. It can be much faster if you are using machines.
