Summer. One hard truth about getting older is the realization that you only liked summer as a kid because you were out of school. Now that school is out of the picture, you’re hot, sweaty, sticky and you can’t do anything too extreme outdoors for the risk of heat exhaustion, and going anywhere fun is going to be filled with kids everywhere.

Same here. I ride my bicycle to and from work/grocery store. I'm still in High School and living in Las Vegas so the summers are sweltering and the winters relatively mild but uncomfortable. I have to arrive at work half an hour before I clock in so that am not on the floor all sweaty. I'm not giving up my bicycle though. It's cheap, no gas, no payments, no insurance.

Summer.. as a child was great, but as adult, you are tired from working, then you see all these little kids with their future ahead of them, smiling , having fun, and you just got off a twelve hour shift…screw the get off my lawn, I pray it rains to keep them from smiling at me as I’m dragging ass getting home!!! Why should they be happier than me, I’m driving, making money, can dress myself and wipe myself … in second thought , I hate children not summer.

Climate change won’t help with that either. That said, depending on where you live, summer is the only ideal time for hiking, camping, trail running, backpacking, etc. so it serves its purpose but it’s no Fall.

Where I live summer has also gotten astronomically hotter. I can remember playing outside a lot in summer and my day care was legally not allowed to let us play outside if it was above 80F. I can barely remember a day this summer below 90

Birthdays. When you're a kid it's about parties and gifts and cake. As an adult with a full-time job and responsibilities, it's more like "I'll take the day off from work with my very limited PTO and catch up on sleep. Do not sing to me. Do not get me anything. Just let me be."

About how fast time passes: As a kid I always thought adults were joking when they said things like "when did you get so big" or "you can't be 12 already!" but the other day my neighbor's son was visiting when I popped by. He just turned 18 and I found myself going "no way you're that old, you were just a toddler, like... yesterday!" I swear there's just no way someone can go from a baby to a whole ass adult in that short a time.

I don't love the need to be unique all the time every day. People act as though being normal is such a bad thing. You don't need face tattoos, the latest fashion, the funniest personality, and 100k followers to be a loved and respected human being. Accept things are mundane. Don't get me wrong, I fell into this hole when I was in high school and a little after. But that want in exhausting and not as validating as people make it seem. And it's so liberating to say you like something even if others make fun of it or think it's not "cool" when you sincerely enjoy it!

That’s why when December actually gets here everybody’s so burnt out on Christmas already because they’ve been shoving it down our throat since mid September.

I hate delivery. I will go out and buy my supplies from my local sellers as often as I can. People steal deliveries and I live in China and my Chinese is poor, so that's a contributing factor, but still, I like supporting local businesses and it gives me a reason to get some exercise. Conversely, I often can't be bothered to go and hang out with people, especially now since I've moved to a new city. My colleagues are nice, but I don't feel any special compulsion to see them outside of work. I'd like more friends, but tbh I'd rather just play Kenshi.

Online games used to be fun enjoyable hobbies you could use to escape now it's play this game but also every five minutes there's gonna be a cut scene to move the story forward whether or not you want to watch a cut scene. Life in general.
Nothing feels exciting anymore, nothing really ignites that spark.
Hanging out with friends doesn't excite me. Sure we have lots of fun but once it's over, it's just, well, that, over. I find myself reminiscing the times I'd hang out with said friends as kids, but doing the same as adults doesn't really bring anything new.
Same with Holidays like Christmas or Birthdays.
It's the same, except instead of having fun with the gifts you got, you just end up slightly more lonely than when you started.
Going out doesn't feel like much either. I'd always be so excited when going somewhere as a kid, but now it's just another mundane thing.

I just wanted to remark about that remark at 13:33 following the story.
No matter what you do as a hobby, you are NEVER obligated to turn it into some sort of side hustle. If you want to make some money off of your work, go ahead! But if you're not comfortable with it, you don't have to do so.
As a writer, whenever I tell people I'm writing a book, I almost always hear "Oh, can I buy your book?" or "Who are you thinking of asking to publish/sell your book?" or, most often, "You'd make so much money if you got your story published and put in stores!". Even if it's asked in good faith, it still puts this invisible pressure to be productive and make money off of this thing you do. I just write because I like it and I find it to be really fun! If people want to donate funds, that's nice! But I don't want to feel pressured into writing stories for a living, because I know I'm going to burn out if I do so.
I think, especially with the creative/artistic hobbies, there's this idea that you NEED to make money off of your own work. (I should know. I've been told that exact thing!) And if you don't, then your efforts are seen as a waste of time, and that you could be spending that time actually earning money. This whole idea of a "side hustle" really bothers me in this regard. Why should something I do for fun be my living? I know the phrase "If you do what you love for work, then it won't feel like work.", but what if what I love is something I don't want to turn into my job?
I feel like that's a part of getting older I despise. The constant need to prove that you're making progress, and being looked down upon when you can't/don't. Being happy apparently doesn't cut it anymore.

When I was a kid, the snowplows used to push all the snow up against the back of the bus shelter so you could climb to the top while your mom yelled about getting your clothes dirty or falling down. I'm not sure if it's because the bus shelters are all glass now or because of the aforementioned falling, or because we don't get as much snow as we used to, but they don't do that anymore.

I still love to drive but at 65 I have to work two jobs and just don’t have the energy to go galavanting too far on my one and only day off each week. My date and I were going to meet up in the nearest big city to visit their art museum. I begged off and asked to go for a hike closer to home. No crazy search for parking or $70.00 per person for food, entry fee, gasoline, and paid parking. Hiking and an inexpensive diner meal was perfect. Maybe this winter when my seasonal work dies down will be good for a museum visit.

Genuinely: people. it doesn't take long. just a year or two of working some sort of customer services. Be it retail, fast food, or tech support(anything customer facing really). You just kind of realize at some point: "wow, most people really suck!". Every now and then you'll get one person that'll brighten a really craptastic day, but those are so few and far between, that it's not even worth it. I think I've experienced it maybe 3 times in 2 years. Eventually, they'll just start getting all up on your nerves outside of work too. Constantly disrupting your side projects, your free time in general when you're just trying to relax for an hour or two and have some peace and quiet.

Cooking especially dinner. When I was first married and living on my own, I loved it. I would try new recipes, do my own spin on other recipes, etc. then my kids got older and they got picky. And then my sister in law moved in and her kids were even more picky than mine…every time I’d make dinner someone wouldn’t eat because they didn’t like it or because I cooked it(I had one nephew that would only eat if his mom cooked)or whatever. Then when I do cook, I always overestimate or underestimate how long it’s going to take. I’ll start cooking at 5 o’clock and dinner. I’ll be ready by 5:30 or I’ll start cooking at 5:30 and dinner won’t be ready until 8 o’clock at night. It’s never a happy medium… the kids are all getting older now and they’ve been mostly buying their own dinners or cooking their own stuff so big family dinners are reserved for holidays… which is fine with me.

Same goes for music videos here on TH-cam! You young people, Gen Z's listening, trust me, you do NOT want to know what it was like pre-Internet when you were at the mercy of whatever your local radio stations/TV shows "felt like" playing. And if you were into classic country back then, you were most likely out of luck...you were stuck instead with just the same 30-40 songs over and over and over and over and over...

It's like roller coasters. I used to enjoy them. Then I learned that all roller coasters have physical limits to their design. You can only experience X gravity force in any given direction as set by federal regulation. Once I learned that, I knew there would never be an element of danger involved. I lost all interest in them. It's like always knowing the outcome of a gunfight. You can never get shot no matter what you do. Participation becomes pointless.

World of warcraft, used to be really hooked up between TBC and early MoP, regularly clocking in 40+ hours every week, having a blast. After stopping every about 2 years I went on to play on some private servers and when Classic was released I jumped in. Lasted about 2 months. TBC rolled in, managed to get to 70, raided a bit but at one point it really started to feel like a chore or a second job as raiding in some semi-hardcore guild meant at least 3x 4 hour raid evenings, getting consumables, enchants for new gear and so on would add at least another 2 hours (obtaining gold was timesink of its own unless you used some unsavory services). There were also some dungeons you had to farm at least at the begining to get rid of those last few crappy items. About an hour to get familiar with the all the boss mechanics before attempting to run the raid for the first time, after that listening for another couple of minutes each pull some digest of who messed up what (at some points resulting in raid leader giving up and going through the encounter end to end). There were also the evenings when people didnt bother to show up, someone left the guild and no replacement was found. It just over time lost its appeal to me to block out several nights a week for what essentialy felt as unpaid job

So funny that the noise story came up. I was walking back to work from an errand and heard a truck jake braking on the nearby bypass. It actually brought back a warm fuzzy feeling because as a kid, before all the bypasses and interstates everywhere (65 now) my neighborhood was a couple streets over from a state route. On warm nights as I fell asleep with the windows open I would hear trucks jake braking as they came up on a tight corner. I’m starting to hate the stupid Internet censoring again. I’m not even talking about the political censorship. No, I’m talking about editing essential, ordinary human words. Like the word death or Sex and not even explicit swearing in everyday conversations online

@@mgthestrange9098 It sounds weird, jarring, and completely unnatural no matter who or what is speaking, and it’s completely unnecessary. Most people don’t even use the kid-friendly TV censoring words like shoot or darn. They make entirely new ones that don’t make sense at all, like fork or duck

Prime is the worst, you pay for it and then you STILL have to pay to rent or buy like half of the shows/movies on there. If it weren't for our mum having prime for shopping anyway I would never use any amazon related services. Although yea I'm old enough to remember cable too, we were too poor to have it, but we did get it for six months while my dad was sick with cancer so he would have something to do. Then there was us lil 15 year old insomniac up at 2 am watching Molly and her Dolly on the Big Comfy Couch (sometimes after a bit of the green), but that was the only damn thing on so it became a nightly thing for like three months. xD After our dads funeral one of the family friends who came was also an insomniac and he stayed up with me and we muted the tv and made up what they were saying it was good times.

For me it’s the lack of socialization. All the groups I find die off because nobody wants to leave the house or even talk online. All my friends are constantly stressed from work and want to spend their days off sleeping or alone. I buy groceries for fancy meals I never get to share because even posting them online is just internet kudos from strangers who will never eat it with me. After quarantine my favorite bars and cafes closed down permanently. I work retail full time and even in my coworkers and customers I can see people in general just not wanting to be bothered with each other.

I can relate to the bar music one. I love music as much as anyone but I went to one to hang out with my sister a couple weeks ago that had an indoor and outdoor area. Inside, was ok, the biggest complaint I had was how long the food (mostly wings) was taking (they were busy, we've both worked in restaurants, we get it). We went outside, we had to yell, and we were facing one another.
As far as the life passing by thing. I've heard of the 10 years old vs 50 bit. An analogy I've heard was imagine a comparable level living as a pie, each slice representing a year. When you're 5, each slice/ year is 1/5 of your life vs when your 50 each one is 1/50. I will acknowledge the carving new pathways affects this, but, looking back, I like to think of the pie but as comforting.

Television and movies. Not only do they reuse the saaaame tired cliches and bad writing tricks, tv shows for some reason are obsessed with babydrama, and it doesn't matter what genre it is. There will be some kind of baby drama somewhere. Drama for the sake of drama, the stupidest kind of teen drama and--- there's been so much bad writing and things that just make you want to throw things at the television, like the whole of Invincible. And, well I'm just going to say joss Whedon, JJ Abrams, and Kurtzman are the reason why tv has so badly gone downhill in the last 15 years and I'm NOT SORRY they're slowly being cut out of the industry but they're being replaced by so much worse. Meanwhile it's getting far more difficult to find the older TV shows to stream than it used to be in the early days of Netflix.

    New shows and movies.
I don't want to make it to say that all new movies are boring, I enjoyed Oppenheimer, Top Gun Maverick, but the new movies and shows, especially those made by Disney, are not enjoyable for me anymore. I don't want to watch live action movies like the Lion King, Little Mermaid, and other movies Disney wants to "remake." I honestly believe big studios like Disney are no longer trying to innovate, make interesting plots to their movies, anything to push their ESG score or whatever it's called with Blackrock so they get more money with stocks.
There are a lot of old movies I enjoy watching, such as Star Trek, Star Wars (IV-VI), Top Gun, Wizard of Oz, and so on and so forth. Honestly if you dont like the new stuff, try rolling back the clock to older stuff, since most modern studios were still getting on their feet and a bad movie could end the company entirely.
    I got another one.
    Most Sports
I can only watch so much Football (Either American or International) before it starts to get boring, not to downplay the significance of the World Cup or its influence, but I would rather have a sport where each event changes what to expect, where there are small amounts of people on each team competing, with strategies that makes or breaks it.
That is exactly what I enjoy watching most racing series (F1, Indycar, GTEs, etc) as each event is a new location which is exactly the changes I like to see. Instead of sweaty people trying to tackle a ball, we got drivers in specifically tuned cars, doing their best, and one lapse in judgement or a bad strategy can ruin a specific driver's race, and seeing how that comes out most weekends is what I find very entertaining in racing, comparatively to most other sports.

One thing all of these people have in common. That realization that they're going to live tomorrow, and ten years from now. Also realizing that they've wasted their time.
However wasting their time is partly a choice, and the result of everything being too expensive.
I'm 23, and I feel like I have wasted my life away. Despite not having control over it for the last 22 years, and despite having another 65 years to look forward to.
65 because of genetics. It can be less, like 70, but it can also be more like 120. However it doesn't really matter sense I'll die at the same place I started at.

Figuring out what I want to do with my life. When I was younger, it used to be what sports I would wanna do, what classes would I wanna take, ect. Now it’s what college I would wanna go to, what house do I wanna buy, you have to figure out what you wanna do in the future, and it has to be an actual well-rounded answer, nun of this I don’t know or I’m stuck shit, that’s rediculous, knock it off. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still in school, and I still have a lot of entertainment and rec stuff that I can pick from, but Ugh, fucking come on. I don’t mind people asking me about my future, it’s me, not them. To add to it, I never feel like I’m doing enough or accomplishing enough, and I have people on me all like you should do more, you should do x thing, and you should accomplish Y thing this week, oh, that’s amazing that you’re taking Flout, but you’re not going to decide that you’re no longer gonna be a drummer for the band, oh come on, you’re gonna be taking flout, and I’m never gonna hear you drum again, because you’re going to pick up flute, and then drop it, I just know it. I am over exaggerating, the drums part a little bit, but seriously, I’m glad that you’re happy about me taking flute, but stop talking about me, being a drummer, if I don’t want to be a drummer, which is not the case, I do, I will not, and even if I don’t play it constantly as a drummer, I’m still a drummer and I’m not a professional and I do not want to be. Stop looking at me like I failed life just because I decided that I’m going to have flute lessons, and drop drums, I’m not going to stop playing drums, and I didn’t actually have to learn the drums, it was a natural thing for me, not to brag, but seriously.

To be honest, birthdays. I don't care if people forget. Im just a guy swimming against the every changing currents of life. I'm nobody important. I don't remember my last birthday cake. My former friend wanted to take me to Dave&Busters but I declined. To be honest, I never really wanted to go out on my birthday. Don't hide and jump out to surprise me because I will probably have a anxiety attack. Just send me money. Enjoy the cake and ice cream alone. I can remember a Christmas I was so depressed,I almost decided to give my presents to charity. I don't need birthday attention. Just another day in the week. Your days shouldn't stop on my account.
