Valerie Bak - Egk: Variations for Coloratura Soprano, High E-flat

THE SONGBIRD: Valerie Bak (1919 - 2005) was born in Budapest, studied at the conservatory and debuted there in the National Opera in 1944. Her career as a leading coloratura soprano took her to Gera, Augsburg, Hamburg, and Dusseldorf. She made successful guest appearances at Covent Garden (1952), the Edinburgh Festival (Queen of the Night), Rio, Barcelona, and in various operas in Italy and Switzerland. Her primary roles included Violetta, Pamina, Fiordiligi, Gilda, and Sophie. Her husband Ludwig Bak was a pianist and composer. She recorded Mozart concert arias, Handel cantatas, and excerpts from "Rigoletto," "Carmen," and some operetta. The date and specifics of this recording are unknown, but it is most likely a radio concert circa early 1950s.
THE MUSIC: German composer Werner Egk composed this showpiece in 1937 while he was the principal conductor at the Prussian State Opera in Berlin, as an interpolation aria for Erna Berger in the music scene of Rossini's "The Barber of Seville." She recorded it in Berlin in 1951 with Raucheisen on piano. The only known studio recording is by Ingeborg Hallsteins, from 1967 with Hager conducting. @@Delphine984 sie ist 2005 im Alter von 86 Jahren in Düsseldorf verstorben und auf dem Stefanus-Friedhof neben ihrem Mann beerdigt. Sie hat an der Musikhochschule in Düsseldorf Gesang unterrichtet.
Sie hatte im Alter in einem Düsseldorfer Lokal wohl regelmäßig das Tagesessen eingenommen und das immer am selben Platz.
Ein Gast wurde auf sie aufmerksam und fragte den Wirt nach ihr.
Die Antwort: "Sie kommt jeden Tag, und sie soll einmal eine berühmte Sängerin gewesen sein."

Dietrich Glatzle Danke für den Hinweis aber sie wird uns immer als schöne Sängerin in Erinnerung bleiben
So eine schöne Stimme hat wirklich nicht jede Sängerin muss ich ganz ehrlich sagen
