PAmining....my grandad (now deceased) was a career Manitowoc employee at the shop in Manitowoc WI. Best part? He was a fabricator during the year/make of this machine....and he RAVED about these cranes. OOOHHHH the times as a young lad he brought me to the R&D facility and I got to sit with operators doing lifts. It inspired me for my career today...which is mining and crane operation. From the great north....it is pronounced Man----I (silent I like saying ill without the ll) towoc. Thanks for the videos....anything new soon?
A lot of history for sure. Still a good rig to make a payday with. It is what it is and everything has it's best speed. You can't push an old rig but so far, but if you just do what they want, they'll make it as easy as they can for you. Thanks Pal. This is a neat video.
Thanks man! I'm really not sure (that's why I didn't say in the video). I don't know if Detroit built that model engine back in the 1940s. The Cummins engine was usually a model 60232. Some of these 4500s had Cat engines too. Oh you know they'll be an action video lol.
cool video! I love to see such old machines still in business. It really doeasn t matter how old, fast or rusty the machine is as long as it runs safley it will earn your money and if you show them some love oil and paint they can go on digging.
Yeah it is. Counterweight all depends on the boom length, bucket capacity, and also how the machine is set up ie. ( shovel, dragline, or lifting crane).
I love your videos I really wish you could do a video on the Manitowoc M-4500 shovel they probably are not any still in service today . It would make a great documentary. Thank's you for all your great video's.
as a Wisconsinite I want to let you know great video! but its annoying to hear you say ManAwoc! it has a TO in it! its said Man-IT-O-woc. made in WI! Hope that helps!

I have not come across a 4500 shovel but I will be redoing the 4500 documentary in the future. Thanks!
That is a real bear bones machine. I was surprised to see such a small counterweight.

Great vid Justin! Awesome old machine! St. Lawrence sea way project WOW!!
What model Detroit Diesel? Probably a 12V-71. A action vid would be sweet :)
Yep, she's an old timer. Thanks!
Always, that's my goal!
i see thats powered 12v71 thats probeley a 70's engines cause they only came out with the v series engines in the 60's
Unfortunatly she was scrapped a couple years ago
They must have done something right building that machine if it's lasted this long. Great vid.
