    Operator is an artist. The bucket never stops moving, and it's full on every pass. I hope he's seen this video and shown it to his family and friends.

    Good smooth operator
    He's clearing the bank away before he starts making a cut. That saves the drag cables from excess wear. I've run draglines all my life. This guy is good.

    These are so cool!😍I have an Electric Rope Shovel that I found abandoned by the freeway. I had it moved to the house and fixed it up good as new. It's on display in the special garage I had built for it.

      This operator is out of control half of the time. He pulls up a roll for no reason where he's digging, it looks like he has no idea where he's going to dump the bucket, and he has the bucket swinging way out from under the boom. No rhythm whatsoever.

    I climbed the boom on the big musky when I was real young we were visiting my uncle in Ohio. Boy I got me a whipping.

    I worked many years stripping coal. Making drag sets was the toughest job. You have to get the area that the drag is moving onto very level.

    Likely get several yards more over burden with each swing with a clean bucket and over 24 hrs that's quite a bit!

      I suppose it was a tradeoff of stopping to break the cake loose. It may be that it would cake again. Familiar problem at Brownsville.

    Dad worked for ICRR for 43 yrs and on a rare day off or two sometimes he'd take me to the strip mines in S IL from Freeburg all the way down S of Pinckneyville, I remember seeing the massive cranes at work, I was between 4 - 8, but the Captain was the monster saw it many times, it caught fire and they decided not to fix it, too costly I guess.

    I'm lucky that I can even spell quarry let alone knowing anything about mining. Looking at this from the outside seems to be the MOST inefficient way to move dirt. Dragline bucket is huge and still seems disproportioned to the enormity of the machine itself.

    • @timothyperry263
      @timothyperry263 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep. You know nothing about mining with a dragline. The bucket is small compared to the size of the house but you have to have that for that weight. Over 100 tons loaded at the end of a 300+ foot boom it get even heavier. You can easily pick up 1 lb. but put it on the end of a 10 foot pole and try to pick it up.

      Working at a long radius limits the bucket size. Pick up a 100 pound weight right next to you. Then hold it at arms length.

      Wrong! Draglines ate the most efficient machines for this type of operation. That's why Caterpillar still makes them, and bought out B.E..

      I used to run that machine we there was only 2 per shift the other guy was on the dozer making bench or something else it was probably in the winter as I remember stuff would get wet and stick in the bucket
