There was that time...late 70s into early 80s...performers like Patrice Rushen, or Champaign, or Evelyn "Champagne" King, or The Whispers, or Midnight Star, or Teena Marie, or so many others...their sounds were so fresh and new, many of them like a bridge between R&B and New Wave, all very solid musicians. They EARNED their success and didn't have to rely on gimmicks. Play them for an audience today and people respond.

This song will forever be in my memory, high school and my early military days in the 1980, i was so young and in my 20s. It was a very emotional time, the 1980s was such a wonderful time for me.
I heard this song on the radio and thought, "Wow, the production is beautiful", and once I googled it, I got educated and learned that she sang AND produced it. 🤯This song is so cool.
It is amazing production, super bright and shiny but smooth and polished at the same time so the treble doesn't fatigue the ears. Just enough bass and kick and everything is tight and punchy. Sounds years ahead of its time.
Patrice is (still) a star!! And, I still have the 12", CD and my original mix tape.....and my grand daughter's birth flower is.....forget me nots.......
I took a homeless girl named Varshanna H. Into my La Mesa CA home in 2013. She was very emotionally wounded, and closed off to any contact. I played much of my music for her daily throughout the weeks. After some time, this is a song I played that made her come alive and begin to live again as she danced to it! God Bless your hearts girls so tender. A true gift from God! I love you both, and my ex wife!
MS Kweenie I wish I knew. I’ve tried to find her, but I’ll tell you this; it’s a small world until you are trying to find someone. There is much more to the story but she ended up in jail after I had her. After that I just don’t know. I didn’t know her last name until the police told me.
One of my all time favorite funky dance jams! I was there on the dance floor when this amazing tune first came out. I miss my youth! The 80’s were are wonderful time to be young!

We watched the ”UNSUNG” episode featuring Ms. Pat Rushen. My then 6-year-old daughter took a liking to her fashion, hair and voice. It was so refreshing to watch her embrace the 80’s in 2020! Stay safe during this pandemic everyone! Peace and blessings to all of you!
This brings me back to a sweet time in our history. (Yeah: They ALL say that!) Ms. Rushen: One of the most salient soundtracks of my adolescence. Thank you.
I once knew a woman named Elizabeth. She was a wallflower at parties. She sat straight in chairs, no fooling. This song came on and she got up to dance. She twirled to the music and was flamboyant and slide across the floor. Her hair was flying all over. Elizabeth could spin around like a top.Everyone gasped at the sight of her amazing moves. She dance for about 7 minutes with out skipping a beat. She danced back to her chair. Everyone was stunned at her performance.

There was such an uplifting of one self. Those higher ups in the music industry saw how the music empowered blacks. They brought in music that would be destructive.
Although I was only a teenager when this song came out, I had the time of my life back in the 80's. Teenage crushes, block parties, dancing under the street lights in Brooklyn. Back when it was oh so simple and truly fun. Anyway one agree??
Yes you're right, but nowadays N.Y. is so dangerous, there are a lot of mentally ill people, attacking and abusing everybody and anybody that goes out for a walk, even more on the subway on your way or from work, anyone can get stabbed for no apparent reason, just from looking at someone or just from tripping over some mentally erratic violent hoodlum!
I first heard this song when I was in the field stationed in Germany. It came on the radio and we all just stopped what we were doing and listened to it. Great song.
Great story! Follow up with George Benson, "give me the night". I worked with a surgeon who used to say, "just gimme da knife, anesthesias in the air and there's patients everywhere..so gimme da knife". Yes I'm serious and I still smile every time I hear it! Stay safe and well 💕💕🎵

Heard this song on accident, and i'm proud to say that it's the best coincidence i've ever had.
1980s night clubs this song was iconic it'll never fade away what a great song

This song will forever be in my memory, high school and my early military days in the 1980, i was so young and in my 20s. It was a very emotional time, the 1980s was such a wonderful time for me.

I heard this song on the radio and thought, "Wow, the production is beautiful", and once I googled it, I got educated and learned that she sang AND produced it. 🤯This song is so cool.
Yes my love Rebecca
It is amazing production, super bright and shiny but smooth and polished at the same time so the treble doesn't fatigue the ears. Just enough bass and kick and everything is tight and punchy. Sounds years ahead of its time.
Awesome song they don't make music like this Anymore wished they did didn't no she produced it wow
Who still listening in 2020 you know good music 🔥🔥🔥💯💯

I took a homeless girl named Varshanna H. Into my La Mesa CA home in 2013. She was very emotionally wounded, and closed off to any contact. I played much of my music for her daily throughout the weeks. After some time, this is a song I played that made her come alive and begin to live again as she danced to it! God Bless your hearts girls so tender. A true gift from God! I love you both, and my ex wife!
AMEN 🙏 lotsa love .
You married her?
Where is she now
MS Kweenie I wish I knew. I’ve tried to find her, but I’ll tell you this; it’s a small world until you are trying to find someone. There is much more to the story but she ended up in jail after I had her. After that I just don’t know. I didn’t know her last name until the police told me.
Chris G I probably would if I could find her again.
This song is timeless. Rest & Peace Micky Thomas!! One of the studio musicians from Chicago that helped create this masterpiece.
Still listening to all of the greatest hits of the 70's, 80's, and some of the 90's. Patrice Rushen is truly a Forget Me Not. I've always loved her.

Missing the amazing dancing nights in the club with your girls all glammed up looking for cute guys!! Happy, safe fun!! We were blessed!! My heart aches for the 80s aww 💔❤️❤️❤️
This song hits you like a slap in the face, makes you stop whatever you’re doing and groove!
The beat is everything! The 80’s have this sound that is so distinct! It gives me so much nostalgia.
I feel the same way you are thank you very much the best time in the world

This rhythm is the kind you will never hear in rap and hip-hop songs. Anyway, they are not my cup of tea.
And I forgot she’s Simply Beautiful! Simple❤
Love this song!!! Just pure beautiful African-American music that was HAPPY, FUN, UPLIFTING, JOYFUL, and most of all YOU WANTED TO LISTEN TO IT! Sorry everybody, just an OLD 63 year old white guy here who loves music like this. Robin S, Tina Turner, Diana, Martha, you all know what I mean... Please come back!!!! I would listen to this song in my white '82 S-10 pick-up truck almost forty years ago... still just as great now. God Bless everyone, be safe.
We all loved all kinds of music then. It was for EVRRYONE!
Such a wicked tune, takes me right back to youth club in the 80s.
(Yeah: They ALL say that!)
Ms. Rushen: One of the most salient soundtracks of my adolescence.
Thank you.
Whenever I listen to these old songs,my heart is taken on a pilgrimage and I feel agonously missing those years in U.S.

KIKI..... I was coming through high school and working and clubing and going into the army in the 80s and in my 20s. The music was so emotional and had everyone loving life. There was such an uplifting of one self. Those higher ups in the music industry saw how the music empowered blacks. They brought in music that would be destructive.
You're going places...
This song still got that fire. 2022 and I’m still jamming it.
It has thunder and very suitable for the summer, riding, hangouts romance, all of it.

Although I was only a teenager when this song came out, I had the time of my life back in the 80's. Teenage crushes, block parties, dancing under the street lights in Brooklyn.
Back when it was oh so simple and truly fun. Anyway one agree??
We all agree. 👏🏼
Yes indeed no drive bys
Rockin the pumas !
