Before Covid, my husband and I would book AirBnBs specifically so that we could go into the grocery shops, get the food that locals get and cook ourselves. One day, we were in Prague and wanted a small bit of butter and we bought what we thought was butter but as we didn't read Czech, we didn't know we had bought a cube of yeast! It was so funny when we got in and found out. :D Really loving your videos, thank you for showing us a Finnish grocery shop. :)

I find going grocery shopping in a foreign country is fascinating because it teaches you so much about the culture - and we can be very different. When I went to Australia and looked around the supermarket (twice), I discovered that the things we in the UK see as exotic and expensive treats were much more like everyday items to them (seafood and tropical fruit, for example). And the other thing I discover we have in common is our fondness for garlic! Another interesting little video, Emmi - thank you so much! I hope your New Year is going well so far.

I totally agree about all the plastic! My local stores now allow you to put fresh produce into little net bags, and we also have a truck that comes locally once a fortnight where you can fill your own containers with rice, pasta, flour,sugar etc.she seems to have something new to offer every time she comes which is great.
Sounds wonderful, I wish we had that! Many dry pantry items can be found in paper or cardboard packaging, like flour, sugar, pasta, and rice. But vegetables often come in plastic, which is really unfortunate (and unnecessary)!

The white snow scenes are gorgeous. I recommend you to steam the broccoli before cooking with it, it will make the soup easier to digest, especially if you eat it at night. Also, I don’t know if you’re pescatarian, but I make fresh chicken broth myself and keep portions in the freezer to add to soups. It gives you collagen and makes the soup even more replenishing to your body. Thank you for another lovely video. I would love if you could share some info about how you manage your filming. I find it a fascinating part of the video itself.

Hello from U.S. , love your video. When traveling I always go to the grocery store. It’s a great way to save on food costs and I love see the different products. You have to weigh and put the sticker on the produce bag in Italy also, a little embarrassing if you don’t know this. Boy, was the grocery clerk mad at me, as he had to take all my produce back to the scales. I guess it was easier to do that than try to explain!

Actually, you can lightly toast the bread.....just not to the rich golden shade of breakfast toast. I pretoast many breads to eliminate the pasty flavor and to dry it out a bit. I'm happy to see you cook a creamy, cheesy soup -- once in a while they're a wonderfully rich treat.
That looks really good! Are you allowed to use reusable, washable produce bags? They are mesh with zipper and much nicer than the plastic. Another option is to bring compostable bags of the type that would go into a kitchen counter compost pail with you to the store. I keep a roll in a hard plastic dispenser that was designed for doggy poop bags in my reusable grocery bags.

I love going into grocery stores (and pharmacies) in other countries too. So interesting to see different types of food. I’m trying to make more meals at home and have enjoyed watching the different recipes you’ve made. Your soup looks delicious. May have to add that one to my list of things to try.

Emmi I did not notice Viili in the dairy section is it still popular in Finland. I used to love having viili in the morning.
Viili is still available in all stores, but it’s not so popular as yoghurt these days. It reminds me of my childhood, I really should buy it again. 😊

Hi... I love your videos. Did you know that you can keep the leeks in the freezer, if you chop them very finely and put them in small molds and fill with olive oil. to use, you just take one at a time. 😉

Actually, you can lightly toast the bread.....just not to the rich golden shade of breakfast toast. I pretoast many breads to eliminate the pasty flavor and to dry it out a bit. I'm happy to see you cook a creamy, cheesy soup -- once in a while they're a wonderfully rich treat.

That looks really good! Are you allowed to use reusable, washable produce bags? They are mesh with zipper and much nicer than the plastic. Another option is to bring compostable bags of the type that would go into a kitchen counter compost pail with you to the store. I keep a roll in a hard plastic dispenser that was designed for doggy poop bags in my reusable grocery bags.
Yes reusable bags are a good idea! Some things come are prepacked in plastic though.
