The song is written by sri Thyagaraja to praise Shatkala Govinda Marar for his immortal performance. Sri Shatkala Govinda Marar is said to have used a Tamburu having seven strings.His expertise in singing in the six degrees of geometric speed earned him the title Ṣaṭkāla. Prof.Sambamoorthy reconstructs the memorable scene from information gathered from the palm-leaf biography of the saint written by his direct disciples, Walajapet Venkitramana Bhagavathar and Tanjore Rama Rao, and from the notebook of another direct disciple, Krishnaswami Bhagavathar, thus: "He (Marar) started singing in the ati ati vilambita kala (first degree of speed). People were wondering why he started at such a dead slow tempo, but they were struck by the precision in duration between count and count. Then he sang the chosen theme in ati vilambita kala (second degree) Vilambita (third degree), Madhyama kala (fourth degree), druta kala (fifth degree) and ati druta kala (sixth degree). As he approached the fifth degree of speed, the entire audience was spellbound, and when he sang in the sixth degree of speed, Tyagaraja himself was taken aback by his laya sampat''. During the performance he was strumming the tambura with his right hand , and playing the ganjira with his left hand, holding the latter instrument in position between the toes of his right leg. Tyagaraja immediately perceived in Marar a brilliant musician of rare genius. His spiritually evolved soul also recognised him as a mahanubhava (great soul), who like himself was seeking satchidananda, through Sangeetha. When i was just around 20 years old i had the greatest privilege to sing in front of him in his house praying to be his Sishya. I am so blessed to just around him to feel Guruji's Divine vibrations. I met the great legendary carnatic musician at the Bombay Domestic Airport hotel lobby. As I did shashtang pranam, he pulled me up and gave me a blessing hug. He was on way to USA that night. He spent ten minutes with me and those were memorable ten minutes in my life. I have been listening to Endoro mahanu bhavulu kirtana on so many occassions and I will in trance in those times. God bless your soul and let your soul be released by God for us to gain moksha by listening to great music.

Saint & Telugu poet Thyaagaraja was born and brought up at Thiruvaiyaaru in Tamilnadu.He wrote & sung most of his telugu keerthanas here in Thiruvaiyaaru.Many devotees & musicians from all over the world vist his samaadhi here at Thiruvaiyaaru in Tamilnadu. I met the great legendary carnatic musician at the Bombay Domestic Airport hotel lobby. As I did shashtang pranam, he pulled me up and gave me a blessing hug. He was on way to USA that night. He spent ten minutes with me and those were memorable ten minutes in my life. I have been listening to Endoro mahanu bhavulu kirtana on so many occassions and I will in trance in those times. God bless your soul and let your soul be released by God for us to gain moksha by listening to great music.

I sung 1008 sanskrit names of Lalitha Sahasranamam following Dr BalaMurali krishna's Video in 2006 and presented at South London temple in 2008.and later in Singapore. Singing of Endaro Mahanubhavulu by Dr BalaMurali Krishna is second to none. R.I.P Dr BalaMurali krishna.

I clearly remember the day over thirty years ago, when the great singer came to Bangalore Doordarshan studios for a recording. Since then I have been regularly listening his renderings. This particular story about Sri Tyagaraja composing a keertana in praise of an individual comes as a huge surprise. He must indeed have been a Mahanubhava.
