I'd love a multi part series were each brings in a prized collection piece and discusses where it came from and why its in their collection. I'm sure that could generate some great discussion from the others at the table as well.

Finally, a toy shop podcast. How has this never been done? I see the toy shop vlog on TH-cam a few times a week, and I dig most all of them, but Saturday morning Toy Federation is the cream of the crop. Seems like all of my favorite action figure/toy channels that I subscribe to, keep their videos to around 15-20 mins, and most of the time,I’m fine with that. There are a couple of channels, that I’d love to see longer videos from, and Toy Federation is at the top of that list. So,to see a 40 minute podcast following the weekly show, has me even more pumped for Saturday mornings. So, thanks again for the great content and can’t wait to see what’s next for you guys.☮️

You had the Secret Stash podcast - which came from the store/Comic Book Men show...but that was mostly comic talk. Then you had that show Toy Hunter on the Travel Channel, although not sure if there was a companion podcast. So yeah, pretty sure this is a brand new concept.
*And for sure, would absolutely love to see 40+ minute long episodes. It's tough stuff, so maybe one day.

One thing I’d say to add is maybe some pictures of the bigger toys y’all are talking about. I’m still a newbie in the toy collecting scene so a lot of the toy talk goes over my head and throwing in some photos would help catch me/ others up to speed. I’m in my late 20’s so I didn’t grow up with the toys but I really appreciate them and want to keep the flame going. Theirs so much to toy collecting and it can definitely get a little jumbled lol

I started selling as a comic vendor at regional shows a little over two years ago. It’s a side hustle for me, so I don’t have a giant inventory, but at my last show I had THREE dudes say, “You got any REALLY good stuff under the table?” I said to the one dude, “this show is 9 hours long and I’m 150 miles from home and my goal is to sell comic books, so if I’ve got good stuff with me, it’s not going to sit under my table.” I always kinda remind myself that it takes all kinds of people to make the world go round. Love the talk.

There's too many people who got into collecting over the last 5 years or so just for the perceived or potential value of something. Not for any real love of a given property. It really sucks for those of us who have been in this hobby for 40+ years because we genuinely love the characters and their stories. 15 years or so ago, people on GI Joe message boards would send extra figures or even vehicle parts, or complete vehicles to someone that needed them, for free. Just to help a fellow collector and lover of GI Joe complete their collection. No way someone would do that now.

I like hearing about modern collectors because back when toybiz released the X-Men based on Bart sears X-Men, one of my favorite artists working mainstream, I wasn't collecting any crap. But I wanted it. It was the first time artist based work had been produced in plastic. Then Todd mcfartlane came out with spawn. I was continuously going from crappy brick and mortar stores, coming out with glad bags full of crap I got for under 10$. I didn't collect anything that wasn't clearance. And was outraged that domestic companies thought they could compete with Bandai. Producing fantastic, super engineered, Kamen rider stuff, stuffed with fun😂❤

Love the show and now the podcast. Would love to see deep dives on individual toy lines, or even individual toys and all the different versions out there. Thought i would mention it seems like one of the things that cost alot of time is looking through hulls and units to figure out what they need to go on the floor. Have you considered something like a Tag Out system with Colored tags (safety tags would be a example) where when it comes in, once purchased quickly right on the tag what it's missing or if it's complete and twist the tag on, will add a few mins to putting the toys away but maybe save alot on the back end.

I have to agree with you guys the virtual collectibles market seems really odd. McFarlane tried to sell it to the audience at a comic con by saying “it’s for the people that don’t have space in their apartments/houses etc” but I honestly don’t buy that, I think collectors make space rather than a digital alternative.

Another really good episode. Great to see Ryan lay out his methodology for pricing stuff and remind folks that he's running a business and make money, not trying to build the world's biggest collection with a limitless budget and he has been doing it longer then most of us, so he knows a lot of this stuff better then the back of his hand. I know him and I have talked about that a few times and I personally treat my collection like a nice thing I get to have, but can be gotten rid of at a moment's notice if life decides to come at me (like it did earlier this month lol), but I also know not everyone sees toys that way and has to have a reality check sometimes, especially in this economy.
That MOTU set up for Retro sounds really cool even though it's not something I'm super into, hope Pixel Dan is at the show this year so the world can see his reaction to it.
Don't know how ya'lls mics work but that thunderclap sounded more like a car backfiring haha
The stuff with Comic character interest is something I don't know if I agree on. Because I do hear what Ryan and Travis are saying a lot but I also think when it comes to the former, DC has just had a huge image problem since the 90s. Like, yeah, there have been a lot of good eras for the comics since then, but ever since comics got taken out of super markets they've become a real niche interest (and I'm saying that as someone who reads week to week lol) and in other media, while they're have been some successes, a lot of it has been relative flash in the pan type stuff with little to no staying power. The first two Nolan movies and JLU are about the only modern things I see folks getting nostalgic for right now. I don't know how they fix that image problem beyond keeping the McFarlane stuff going so it can have time for people to get used to and have faith in it and for the love of god, make these new DC Studios movies be good, but I also don't think it's a relatability problem. I love Captain America and Daredevil, but no special serum or can of chemicals is ever gonna make me like them and I'm totally fine with that because I like them for the kind of people they are and what they represent. So I don't see why others can't feel the same way about Superman or The Flash. I think you just need to expose people to the best versions of the characters to make them like and want to pay for them, but that's just how I see it.
Same thing with "Do kids still play with toys or ride their bikes" honestly, because I think a lot of us tend to forget, there's a lot of kids' lives we just aren't seeing. Like, when us adults are at work or running errands, often times they're at school, or at home, or with friends or at some kind of program and I think in those spaces there's probably a fair bit of that happening. Not to say I don't think Video Games and Phones have taken away, just that it's probably less of a problem because it's not like those are the only things to do, those are just the main things to do at home and a lot of areas don't have public spaces for stuff like riding bikes anymore because of what was taken away and a lot of parents will say not to do it in the street because of potentially getting hit by a car.
I don't know about future topics honestly, but if all else fails you could always have the guys talk about their pre Toy Fed days or give thoughts on recent news about upcoming stuff from the major companies.
Sorry for the long comment, I hope it was easy to follow, I just tried to type as they switched topics but I can condense or leave something like this as multiple comments next time I have this many thoughts if you prefer.

I'm absolutely loving the podcast lads. I have a pal who collects and we sit at a table and talk what we have found every month. The problem I have now is I'm now adding joes to my collection, (I need 1 of my kids to move out so I can have there room 😅). Keep up the good work.

Really enjoy watching fellow nerds nerd. curious how you all got into this and when you decided to open the store. Big purchase regrets are always fun topics because we all have them. Also items that you willingly paid too much for just because you needed them, for the store or personally. keep nerding... we'll be listening.

I know where to bring my Star Wars collection if I ever sell it. I’ve watched your guy’s show on TH-cam for awhile now and I think you all are really fair with your buying.

I know, what the market is in vintage toys and you can't argue with his estimates and prices.

Topics that would be fun to see you discuss: 1. Is toy collecting a dying hobby? All of you have stated that kids don't play with toys anymore. So does that mean that 10-20 years from now those people won't have the nostalgic connection to toys? 2. Vintage Kenner Star Wars will always be the top Star Wars collectible, but from my personal view, Prequel Star Wars (especially Clone figures) have become quite popular as well. True or my imagination? 3. What is the true golden age of toys? While most believe it was the 70s and 80s, some say there is more available today then ever before and figures can be far more small market then they could be in the past. Great show gentlemen keep it up!

See I have the entire Thundercats collection except the Astral Moat Monster and Stilt Runner as I was given my much richer neighbours Thundercats collection when he aged out and I had a handful of figures. However I spend most of the time trying to just buy the accessories for each figure which no one understandable is willing to sell on their own, but still the collection is something people always seem excited about when they see my display.

32:50 I remember as kid me and my buddy holding Plastic Grocery Bags above our heads as parachutes and jumping off a 4ft wall to see if it slowed us down! 😂👌
I wasn't stupid enough to try it from the roof though!

Here at More Fun Comics in New Orleans I've also noticed the cycles in vintage toy sales. At least in this area I've noticed a dip due to post-quarantine overload. Lots of collectors bought hoards of old toys during lock down and are now needing to scale down their collections. Similar to what you said in another video "You need one Skeletor Staff. I need 50." I think a lot of private collectors that don't see our storage spaces full of parts and incomplete figures are seeing the reality of being a toy retailer. I can only display about 50% of my toy inventory . That's a high number in comparison to larger stores than mine. Taking in large collections as a means to create a complete series means you'll be buying at LEAST twice what you need. Speaking of which; if anyone needs a few dozen Ewok Village tree posts let me know.

I'm similar to Ryan, a lot of my toys growing up were given away to my nephews and such...I used to have a ton of MOTU and TMNT that were all handed down. Although all of my Joe's essentially were ruined from playing with them in the bathtub and that submarine vehicle.
    Some topic suggestions:
    1. What is something you "collected" as a child (toy or non-toy), and do you still have that collection today?
    2. Something you collect now as an adult that's not a "toy"?

  • @Figfinder
    @Figfinder 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I started my collection with G.IJoes,LJN,Remco,Star Wars,and He Man..Then later on,TMNT...
Now that I'm grown with my own children,we watch and collect things together. I'm exclusive to wrestling figures and GI Joe Classifieds...Best figures out💯
