Give us this day Our daily bread You said you would Supply all my needs According to your riches I have but to ask And I shall receive To go from here And share this love You gave to me To show someone who's lost And help them find their way, The way to truth and faith So they can be free Be free like me Be free like me Lord, we need your love Lord, we need your peace Lord, we need your joy this day
Anecdote about my friend Marilyn: Back in the late 80s, I took Marilyn to a little Italian restaurant in Bethesda just off of Wisconsin Avenue. I was designing their new menu and rendering an original illustration the old-fashioned way (this was before desktop publishing, cell phones, all of that). I believe it was Thursday evenings when they'd have a couple of singers from the Washington Opera come through and sing to piano accompaniment as a special treat for the diners. I brought Marilyn with me as I dropped off the final design of the completed new menu. We sat down and had dinner and enjoyed the music and wonderful singing. We were both recently out of college. I'm sure it was me who asked management and the pianist if Marilyn could sing something. With absolutely no warmup or preparation, Marilyn casually and unassumingly walked up to the piano (no mics) and launched into an utterly stunning and disciplined "Pace, Pace Mio Dio." Her church singing background, training at Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Westminster Choir College, and her nearly bottomless well of natural talent filled that room with an almost overwhelmingly magical sound. The place was NOT expecting anything like the powerful unplanned performance Marilyn gave them. And at the end, the shocked and elated restaurant audience erupted into thunderous applause. I was as proud as a peacock. It's a cherished memory. Today there'd be a phone vid somewhere. But in those days magic moments like that disappeared into the ether surviving only in memory. And what a cherished memory it is.
Whatever happened to Marilyn? I lost my own songbird 5 years ago. Her name was Antonia ( RIP ) every now and then I have to listen to Antonia and Marilyn sing. BLISS
I remember my first solo on Easter Sunday 1987.. I sang this with all of my heart... My grandmother had tears of joy in her eyes!!1 She said baby i didnt know that you could sing like that...Now i sit here with the same tears of joy and knowing that shes up in heaven still smiling down on me and saying...baby when you gon sang that song again??? Goodmama i dont have the voice any more...But im listning to it and thinking about you and my all mighty Father above!!!!!
I've been listening to Marilyn since our families attended church together (Nash United Methodist, NE DC). Good to know she's still sharing her gifts with the world!
I was listening to different versions of this song and came across this version ... and I'm just like wow. Wow. Just stunning. Such a perfect rendition. I feel blessed and motivated having heard it. Thank you for posting.
@gregnormal55 No, because that's my 1st time hearing her. Beautiful voice. What made me listen and wanna know how she sings this song is because Jennifer Holliday blows this song off the chart to me. They have their own signature voice Both are superior singers. You have good taste. 👍 Blessings to you.!!
@gregnormal55 Jennifer Holliday This is the Moment His eye is on the sparrow Come Sunday Am I telling you I am love Read it in my eyes And many more.....
This has to be the most beautiful singing I have ever heard! I am literally in tears sobbing it is so amazing!!! Thank you so much for this one of a kind gift...such beauty, grace, and purity!
I too remember singing this song in chorus while in high school back in the late 80's early 90's. That was the first time I had heard it. The female that lead the song in my chorus class sung it so while I fell in love with the song and have loved it since. This is one of those songs that if it is sung well and with a nice voice it just does something to you.
That song was made for that woman, that woman for that song, let all the heavens declare and the rejoice, honor and praise to the Lord God Jesus, he make all things possible
Glory to God! Did Ms. Egerton/Robinson ever formally record this? If so, does anyone know the name of the recording? I'd purchase the CD just for this number!
This is the most beautiful song, I am so moved. I too cried when I heard it. I really wish I could get the Mp3 version as well. If anyone knows how to get this song, please let me know.
If you want to hear a version that rivals and imo surpasses Whitney's version listen to Anaysha Figueroa-Cooper sing this live at a wedding. Its sounds live and her voice is flawless. Check her out
