    Sometimes raw feeding can be expensive if a dog has allergies/sensitivities, but when I compared the price for a meal of hypoallergenic kibble vs hypoallergenic raw feeding (Rabbit, quail, fish, some vegetables, etc) the price was almost the same. Except there are too many fillers in the kibble for a very high price.

    I knew this video would be very foreign to me, as I heard meat is expensive in the US (although it is crazy expensive with everything that's going on in Brazil now.)
    But it's even more than I thought! Most of the chops you were excited to find are the absolute easiest to find here. Chicken backs, beef tongue, chicken gizzards, paws. Easy and very cheap in local butchers! The bone content is almost always the cheapest part of the meal, so I try to give bones that contain a higher percentage of meat on them. Wing tips are my favourite to feed, they are the perfect size for cats. But shortening it up, last we made batch was R$10,70/kg. The kibble we used to feed them costs R$14,50/kg. That blew my mind!!!

    • @surehang
      @surehang 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By the way I calculated everything, supplements and fresh extra foods included (except for the yogurt and quail eggs, which are about R$2 and R$5 and lasts my two cats about 3 WEEKS). Still cheaper than kibble! Besides the health problems/health care costs we would always have when feeding kibble, even though they are healthy cats. I literally watched expensive/reoccurent health issues fade away after just transitioning them to raw. If you count that in, even though you may buy expensive meats sometimes, it's absurdly cheaper.

    This is helping me rethink how frustrated I have been feeling with the cost. Since my dog is a puppy, she eats 3x a day and 8.5 percent of her 30 lb weight which increases weekly. I’ve been wondering if I should just wait until she’s an adult for 100% raw and instead just top kibble with some raw items I find cheaply. Your video on puppy feeding was very helpful for balancing it correctly

    Thank you I'm definitely going to give my little markets a visit. My dog is allergic to any cheap dog food and the only thing that works for him that is in my price range is Rachel rays salmon food or her steak. For some reason the Rachel ray isnt working right now for him so im going to have to switch back over to raw. He loves raw food so much and 100% of his problems dissappear whenever he is on raw. I try to put other owners onto raw as well but they think it'll make their dog vicious 🙄 lol when he had his first allergic reaction he lost so much fur that it looked like he had mange and it was breaking my heart. His muscles were so stiff that he could barely walk and he didnt want to play...he just wanted to sleep. After i discovered that he's allergic i quickly switched him over to raw and he bounced back to his normal self within 3 days. He was jumping around like a puppy and had so much energy 🥰 and he grew all of his fur back within 2 weeks. And his fur was so shiny that he looked like a show dog

    I got a pocket bully puppy I just saw all the vitamins/muscle gainer supplement and raw food cost and it hurt me to think bout it. Just bought $120 of vitamin for hip joints,muscle gainer, health and growing improvements from bully max a certified company specializing in dogs. It's for 4 months worth of vitamins it's not that bad but it's too high. Rn I got some puppy stuff but once he's a little older I will only need to buy 80 dollar worth of 4 months and raw+kibble if I want to save money to mix it. Need toys, dog collar leash, shampoo, bedding. Am 16 with a pocket bully puppy I usually buy everything myself just cuz that's who I am I never had nobody to really buy me good amount of clothes and other things.

    Question - for the raw meaty bone, do you calculate exactly what the bone to meat ratio would be so that the bone requirement is filled with only bone? If that makes sense. For example, my Doberman puppy gets 9.2 ounces of bone a day, but I’ve been giving him around 15.3 ounces of chicken feet since chicken feet are 60% bone... is that right? Or should it only be 9.2 ounces of chicken feet total?

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I take into account the muscle meat ON the bone when calculating bone intake. Chicken backs are about 44% bone and the rest is counted into the muscle meat portion

    My favorite vlogger, watched all of your videos and learned a lot. My dog has been eating raw meat for four months, but has been suffering from acid reflux recently. It happens in the middle of the night and early in the morning. A few blood spots appear in the yellow fluid from the recent vomiting. I counted my meals by calories and fed them twice a day. After vomiting I switched to feeding him four times a day and gave him a 10mg Pepcid tablet before going to bed. I am not sure whether to continue to feed raw food, I am worried about the bones will bring the burden of digestion. I hope you can help me with this problem.

      My dog has had the same problem and I'm worried he may no longer tolerate raw meat or…maybe, hopefully just one of the proteins. I started lightly cooking his meat to see if that helps and started giving one kind of protein at a time for now so I can see if he has a certain protein sensitivity. I'm worried he can't handle raw anymore for some reason but don't want to cook his food and kill nutrients, ugh, I guess it's a wait and see.

      @@PawsofPrey Thanks for your reply! After switching to raw food, he vomited more yellow water than before, but acid reflux was more pronounced recently. Or is the thinking that even factory-raised meats are better than other options? I want to do an organic raw diet for my puppy, but just finding all of these meats is overwhelming as it is! Maybe split the difference and buy organic when possible?

    Look at price per LB for fresh meats. Then look at price per LB for Hills Science Diet, Blue Buffalo, Orijen. Even the low tier dog food, is getting up there in price! Kibbles and Bits, and Ol Roy, that used to be $10-15 for a 45 LB bag, is now $25-30 for a 45 LB bag. Considering the quality of these foods, $25 for a 45 LB bag is absurd.

      Organ meats are among the most nutritionally dense foods on the planet (along with eggs, clams, and some fish). Whether those nutrients are perfectly balanced for dogs or have gaps in some nutrients is beyond my understanding, but it's well known that a cut of liver is more nutritionally dense and diverse than most vegetables.

    I dont think you calculated this right. Ive been feeding Raw for a year now and it is very expensive (!especially for big dogs!). Did you buy enough meat to balance out all of the chicken backs that you bought? The weight of the bone is probably what makes the average cost so low.

    • @PawsofPrey
      @PawsofPrey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this was his daily intake of bone. These chicken backs have a decent amount of muscle meat and fat on it which aided in the overall weight of the meal. They were also one of the cheapest items I bought. This was intended to be exceptionally cheap because I was seeking the cheapest things I could find.

      @@ardaunal1875 oh yes, that's usually how it goes. Muscle meat is the first to go and organ meat is the last.
