    Summary
    1. Nomination - ability of starting a conversation
    2. Restriction - listener is forced to respond on a specific topic given by a speaker
    3. Turn-taking (from the word itself, taking turns) - others are given an opportunity to start a new topic after the topic that the previous speaker discussed
    4. Topic Control - This is used to control and prevent unnecessary interruptions or topic shifts in a certain conversation. In other words, it is to stick to the topic throughout the conversation.
    5. Topic Shifting - is shifting the topic when you want to avoid the conversation or topic, or you want to spice up a little bit to make the next parts of the topic more interesting.
    6. Repair - a person requests clarification
    7. Termination - is to end the conversation
    Is this correct?

I've been silently following your lessons, Ma'am, but now I feel bad for not leaving comments of appreciation on your videos. We are grateful that you are here to assist us with our modules; without having a teacher in this type of learning mode is difficult, but you make it bearable with your clear and thorough explanations

    • @TeachinglearningEnglish

In my own analysis, the expression 'by the way" implies topic shifting but the whole context of the sentence is repair. I think the main purpose of the speaker is to ask sorry.

Ma'am, I have questions about the quiz. I'm confused. Could you help me out?
" 5. Oh no. You really should get some rest. Have you taken medicine? " I know it's topic shifter because taking medicine is introduced. But can it be Restrictions too? The question is limited to only answering yes and no. Or turn-taking because it's the other person's turn to answer the question?
" 7. I know you are good in editing videos. Yes? Are you willing to work with us?" In what way is it topic control? I don't understand. I think it would be turn-taking or restriction because it's their turn to decline or accept the request.
" 9. Good morning classmates. My topic is all about the types of speech context. " Why is it topic control? Isn't it Nomination? It got the introducing part. Or maybe Restrictions because there's a specific topic that the speaker will only discuss.
Also about turn-taking. Does having to answer the question counts as turn taking?
    Thank you

    • @TeachinglearningEnglish
      @TeachinglearningEnglish  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      i understand your points.
no. 5, it is topic shifting. "oh no" , sometimes it indicates you are trying to shift the convo. it is not restricted nor turn taking.
      7. it sticks to the topic on video editing. making a follow up
      10.the last one is obvious.
these 3 comm strategies u have mentioned are confusing at all times as we need to know the context. anyway, thanks for ur queries.
