Maybe the reason why the Xplorer had to stop randomly a few times is that because of the design and age of the Xplorer trains, if they're subject to extreme heat for long periods of time, the engines will start to shut down automatically so they don't explode, start a fire or melt

They said that it was because somebody smoked in the toilet, and that sets off the alarm which causes problems for the air conditioner. But, yeah, the Xplorers do seem to struggle in the extreme NSW heat so I wouldn't be surprised. Linda tells me they were designed to work in Europe. Despite the long day, it was a fun novelty for us Tasmanians to ride a train.

I had fun watching this, I haven’t taken the explorer train yet, I did the XPT train but not the explorer, I might do that in the future, hopefully people will follow the rules of smoking when I do

Speed restrictions on a train that doesn't go very fast in the first place. If there hadn't been restrictions, you might have reached the train's top speed of 145km/h for a short stretch sometime after Morisset.

Its a shame the train takes sooooo long. >< If tracks were straighter and the trains were better as now theyre really old the journey (ALL Country Link Journey's) could be significantly shorter more efficient

The government really has no interest in encouraging people to use these services, because they are heavily subsidised. They only exist so that the government can avoid the accusation that they're abandoning the bush. They're certainly not about to improve journey times.
