Trevor was the best thing that ever happened to yes in the 80's & 90's. He revived the band & injected new artistry, & creativity, was their chief songwriter when they ran out of songs & ideas, produced, arranged & plays guitar all like the artistic genuis he is..and this song, is one of his greatest..what profound lyrics, and what a magnificent guitar suite..and his vocals make just elevate the song.
Trevor is definitely in my top 10 list of guitarists. I saw ARW earlier this year and he was incredible. Sadly i was too young to see Yes in their prime either with Trevor or Steve.
Agreed. I love old Yes and the Drama album is an interesting listen but you could tell they were running out of gas. I think Yes’ nest album is Talk but unfortunately nobody heard it. You could hear the influence of the older guys he played with on the Union tour but it was still him.
As more of a classic Yes fan, I kind of lost my way with the band after Tormato in '78. Till then I had all their albums and had seen them in concert 5 or 6 times. Then life got in the way, so I missed Yes in the 80s and 90s, apart from noting (with a heavy sigh) the move towards a more pop genre with Horn, Downes and Rabin. Shame on me! Here I am 40 years later, kids gone, retired and what do I hear on a classic rock radio station?? This amazing song! A fantastic Yes song - through and through - up there with the best. Argue all you want about the different Yes lineups, but one thing's for sure - they are all great musicians. This dark, heavy beat with it's signature haunting lyrics and two-way vocals, is wonderfully topped-off with the superb moody, guitar work from Trevor Rabin. Watch the version with the Avatar video clip and it's a perfect match. And then when you watch this grainy, live video again (thank-you whoever filmed it!), you can appreciate how close it is to the studio version. This has become one of my favourite Yes songs. Just superb... :-)
I couldn’t believe the pop turn they took either. But I listened closely, went to the live show on the 91025 tour, and realized they were 10 times the band they were up until then.
I Miss having GREAT MUSIC these Days----------- I am so Glad I got to go to all these Concerts in the Days- Back when Musician's had Talent and Played Instruments----
Trevor is mind boggling, as a player I am just in total awe of his genius, his touch, his sound, his compositional skills, presence, and stage persona, & his voice is too cool. he must be from some far off asteroid from another galaxy, the whole band here is in rare form..this is their finest work, along w/ "fragile"..
Alberto Bruni agree-I'm not familiar with the technical aspects of all the pedals, autotone, and effects , but I'm sure you know the riffs. Where Trevor solos and right before Jon starts singing again where Trevor makes that twanging sound -it's mesmerizing- crazy as it sounds that song alone was worth the ticket. ARW has long overdue new music coming and due out by early 2019. We've already heard Fragile, which, fortunately some fan recorded and put out there for all of us, when he was interviewed o Steve Jones program (a former original Sex Pistols member interviewing ARW- who would have thunk it!) There's enough new music for them to play live, and SHAL has be on the set list. Us true fans I'm sure won't be upset if they don't play All Good Peephole, or Roustabout- for the 17,000. Time to keep it fresh- this song, new music and some new gems would be just fine for us!
I know that solo note for note. Playing it up to speed? Yeah. Different story entirely . His picking technique is flat incredible. An incredible all around musician.
I saw an earlier show on this tour, my first exposure to Yes, when I first discovered them (or rather really looked into them). I was 18. The show seemed to last a mere 5 minutes; I enjoyed it so much it just flew by. At the end of the show it solidified them as my all-time favorite band, and that has never changed since. And I'm one who loves *both* prog and pop Yes. I was in heaven when ABWH formed a couple years later. I try not to think about those late 80's days too much or I get nostalgic and miss them terribly, it was a great time to be alive and young.
Saw this same Concert Mar. 6th, 1988 at Pacific Amphitheater ( Orange County Fairgrounds), just North of Newport Beach, CA. Still one of the best concerts I have seen over the years. Big Generator . RIP Chris Squire----- You are still missed by your Arizona Friends and Neighbors. God Bless !
This is a song that when played live goes to a whole other level. The ending they devised for this live is just tremendous. Definitely an underrated song. Enjoyed this tour.
The song is completely the same melody (A, E, G) throughout the entire song but they added some keyboard chords and an epic bassline to make it more entertaining and made almost the whole song a solo.
everybody talks about "Trevor" (Rabin) as the real "new addition" to Yes music, yes I agree..BUT nobody talks about the other Trevor which I guess really was in charge about the new sound/arrangements (at least keys more minimalist, more "ambient",less "baroque keys"..)those were also the new "Horn" into Yes , and he create most of the end '80 and '90s sound also with the great project Art of Noise.
I love the short guitar solo that starts at 2:45. That gets me every time. I'm pretty sure he added the unison bass part on Big Generator. Also a great drum track. Alan White just lays it down, steady as a rock.
I saw Big Generator at San Diego Sports Arena and it was awesome. Trevor was brilliant and Shoot High Aim Low was just beautiful. "This song is a dream about the end of war", Jon Anderson.
God, to be young again and go back to the BIG 80's...just for one day - to see these guys in concert back then. Simply amazing. Big Generator defines the BIG 80's. I can find awesome in every YES song...old and new. Truly blessed to live in their time.
I first heard this song played through the PA by Rush's crew while they set up for the Hold Your Fire show in Jacksonville FL. I was transfixed, and have listened to it dozens, if not hundreds, of times since. Thanks for posting.
I am old enough to be considered part of the Yes old school. Still, I love thier new stuff. Big Generator had some great songs, this is one of my all time favourite Yes songs.Great to see it performed live again. Thanks so much for posting!!!!
Saw them in New York on this tour, my first Yes concert, and they've been my favorite band ever since, loving both prog and pop Yes. Big Generator was nominated for a Grammy btw; the reason would be because it was a spectacular pop album, both pushing creativity while managing to maintain commercial accessibility. Every...single...song...without exception...is fantastic. SUCH an under-rated album. And the concert was so awesome it seemed to last all of five minutes. I was so disappointed at the end because I was enjoying it so much. Listen to how well they were able to reproduce this song live, from the key's sounds to the vocal harmonies to Rabin's guitar. Just fantastic. Trivia: If I recall, I believe this song was actually developed from a drum line White was working on at the time, and Jon insisted it be expanded upon. Rabin came in and the song was built. Thank goodness.
I've had this entire show on boot video since the same year it was recorded (1988), when it started making the rounds at record shows. It's the best complete BG show with video that I've seen to date. And, along with the Houston syndicated fm radio broadcast later in the year (some of which was released in 2005 or 2006 on the 3-cd Yes box set "The Word Is Live"), this is my favorite version of "Shoot High, Aim Low".
I loved watching the audiences faces live when the bass pedals kicked in like at 7:19. You could just see the expressions of awe and wonder all over the house. It's like someone had opened the revealing science of God for all to know and understand. Pun intended!
So glad yes didn't hold themselves to 3 minutes with this song. Such a great song. Thanks for the video, it's a shame they never put out an official video for it
My brother saw Yes on this tour and came back raving about how impressed he was in their ability to recreate their studio sound on stage. Seeing this video definitely supports that case.
I saw them perform this 31 years ago.... still to do this day, one of the best songs I've ever seen performed live! So glad I found this on youtube. what an awesome memory.
Memories are what it's all about especially with YES ! They've changed their line-up, they're style but they always put out great music. They have adapted thru the years & managed to still be here because of all the dedicated fans who stayed with them & the great musicians that they continue to have in the band ! God Bless Chris Squire & God Bless YES ! Peace to you all !
Thanks for posting!!!!!!!!!! I was there back in 88'. this was one of the last concerts in the Sportatorium before the greedy land developers bought the land, closed the facility and the race track...... RIP we all miss the good times we had out there.........How things have changed............ At least some things like this music are timeless........
badboogerfinger when I first heard this track, I remember painting the room that my newborn child would be introduced to. But he was stillborn and one of the darkest periods of my life come back when I hear this. Not going to avoid listening because of the association, it's just an intense, incredible tune!
This was my first tour, a new fan as a teen back then, they became and remain my fave band. The concert seemed about 15 minutes long I loved it so much, Rochester NY, the month before this. They sound *GREAT* here.
I met YES at the hotel bar in Springfield, IL in 1985. They were there over an hour and a half visiting.. Played much of Big Generator. What a rush for a lifetime YES fan like myself!
Great to see this tour again, Looking at my ticket stub right now with a Big smile. I was at the Tampa Sun Dome show on Saturday January 23,1988 The are Great! Thanks for posting this video.

Streamlined stage! Love it. Saw something similar on the 90125 tour. I like Big generator but listen more to some tracks than others. It was supposed to be huge on the trail of 90125 but the band took too long to release it losing momentum.
IMO, the most underrated song in their catalog.
+Michael L It is excellent, I agree.
Final Eyes as well. Big Generator is a super album.
Michael L I agree, the drum beat at the begining is an awesome intro.
Final Eyes is an amazing track, one of my favorites!!
Totally agree!!

I've seen Yes with both and it was always better with Trevor. Fresher. More energy
Steve just seems out of songs, doesn’t he?

Really underrated album Talk, almost genius

As someone who loves Classic Yes most, I loved this album and this song.

Well said man. The dude is truly great, and it's on full display right here.
One of my favorite YES songs. Trevor Rabin, one of the most under rated song writers, musicians!
Absolutely
Trevor Rabin's mini solo after the first chorus is mesmerizing

He does the beginning solo for "leaving Wakita" from the movie Twister. Look it up on TH-cam.
I think this is one of their best songs.
This song is so dark and beautiful...not many like it.
Something about these 3 guys singing together, a magic, unparalleled before or since by them or anyone! Long live expression through music!
Melkor Morgoth bitter?
Melkor Morgoth well the album did come out over 30 years ago, so it’s interesting that you still find it interesting enough to investigate.
I was at this show..17 years old and loving it
I saw an earlier show on this tour, my first exposure to Yes, when I first discovered them (or rather really looked into them). I was 18. I was 18 and saw them a few weeks later in Tallahassee. Life-changing!
@@NGaGuy41 I was there at 17. I agree, one of the best shows I've seen.

This is a song that when played live goes to a whole other level. The ending they devised for this live is just tremendous. Definitely an underrated song. Enjoyed this tour.
It's not easy to make a complex song like this sound good live but this was awesome.

My all time favourite Yes tune, and here we get an extended Rabin guitar outro, LOVE it!
This is amazing i love this song live
Masterpiece, one of my favs from the Rabin era. A song for the future.
this is by far my favorite song of theirs
I love the short guitar solo that starts at 2:45. That gets me every time. I'm pretty sure he added the unison bass part on Big Generator. Also a great drum track. Alan White just lays it down, steady as a rock.

Deep in my mind and soul. Excelent!!! Thanks
i've heard these singers.
they sing of love.
such a great song and performance plus jamming #YES!
P-e-r-f-e-c-t-i-o-n... just a word that fits in one piece to Yes, really, you know!
I loved watching the audiences faces live when the bass pedals kicked in like at 7:19. You could just see the expressions of awe and wonder all over the house. It's like someone had opened the revealing science of God for all to know and understand. Pun intended!

Awesome tune one of favorites just crank the volume alone in the dark!
powerful song. gives me chills everytime.

Love this song❤
I missed this tour, too. What a rendition! Yes is the only band that I ever saw twice in two nights (91025 tour).
That must have been incredible!
most overlooked and underrated album to be sure!!!! this and Final Eyes are my two most favorites off the Big Generator album.
This was my first tour, a new fan as a teen back then, they became and remain my fave band. The concert seemed about 15 minutes long I loved it so much, Rochester NY, the month before this. They sound *GREAT* here.
This song is Fantastic. Thanks.

Great to see this tour again,
Looking at my ticket stub right now with a Big smile.
I was at the Tampa Sun Dome show on Saturday January 23,1988
The are Great!
Thanks for posting this video.
Thanks for share... Beautifull song...Always great YES...
Fantastic, thanks! Heard this song for the first time on Sunday and had it on rotation ever since!!
I've Had This Song On Tape Since Before This & Still Do: A KMart Cassette Tape!
Absolutely incredible.
Hell yeah, seen them at the Sun Dome in Tampa on this tour, probably one of best concerts I've seen and have been to a lot of them.
Absolutely killed it here.
Wow, never thought I would see them playing this thanks
No Bill Bruford,no Wakeman,no Howe, and this Yes still is awesome.
Thanks... I wish I was there.
Shine on Chris! 💯🎼🤞❣️🌞
Thank you Trevor for shredding us into the Unseen Realm where only indescribable musical joy exists !!!!
Listened to this album today in tribute to Chris. RIP
Magic, pure magic.
Saw this tour. Was awestruck by the whole show. Rabin? Amazing!
Thanks you for posting this. I love Yes,, and Trever Rabin kept them alive between the Classic, and the Retro Yes.
I saw this concept in Binghamton, NY in 1988.. it was incredible.
Omg, there's a Beer pull tab in my toe, Thank ya kindly for a great ride🎼🎵🎶
Great tune, great band. Nuff said
Great band! Great song!
another great concert at the greatest concert hall that ever existed the Hollywood Snortatorium as we locals called it
I understand that this is actually two songs in one. Definitely my favorite on BG
As for Jon's make up,.... it was all a part of the show. Nothing to worry about.
Send him Light.
Peace from Seattle ~
Wow that guitar solo was spot on with the album! Great job Trevor!!!! He was a tremendous add to the band. I lived in FL at that time and missed them each time. Orlando area.
I'm sorry you missed out I saw this tour in Tampa, so the talk tour in Tampa, the big generator tour in Tampa, the union tour right outside of Tampa and finally the three album tour in Clearwater Florida, oops I almost forgot
Saw this tour in Pensacola. Met them all that night. Great show

Thank you so much for sharing, ctas.
So cool to have this. I saw the show in Detroit. This was a few years after I saw the 90125 tour in Fort Wayne. che emozioni , che tempi , unici , indelebili
Good song 👍👍

Such a great voice !!!!!!!!!!!
Podría ver el solo de Trevor una y otra vez, me transporta!. Que delicia para mi escucharlo ❤
One of the greatest lead guitar solos in the annals of Rock! Period.
I was disappointed when ARW didn't include this in their set; it seemed like an obvious choice to me. Would've loved to have heard what Wakeman would've added.
The end is wonderful!!!
sensational life performance!
Thank you!Very nice song!
This group, and Rush - good times
So epic & beautiful

Fã YES Brasil. Minha banda favorita de todos os tempos. Love you YES. 💙💙💙💙🎸🎸🎸🎸🎵🎵🎵😠😠😠
AWESOME!
love it!!!!! wish the quality was better.
@arweiss100 AMEN to that my friend!!. Only stuck in the past fools, would totally dismiss his contribution and importance to the band we all love.
was there for many shows!Used to bracket race there as well!!
bloody awesome
