It has the magnesium piston so it is lighter and higher rpm. Get a ported one from Rip Saw and it is a good mid sized saw. I cut a lot of oak so my 660 is my main saw all day.
Recon itd handle a 28" bar ok? Seems like a good light firewood saw, but I cut some gnarly 30" + oak. I currently run a ms441c as my biggish saw,but the 400c would save me 3lbs.

I asked the same , no answer ,,,,I think it's a 25 ,,, I'm looking at dropping a 28inch on my 400 , only concern is oiler not supplying enough
I was talking to one of the technicians at Rip Saw he said that you don’t want to go over 25” bar on the 400, but that was with a ported engine.

The 400 looks pretty good but it's so close in weight to the 462 that I really don't see the point.

Absolutely fine with a 28” bar full comp chain if sharp
