- It's been TOO LONG little ones! This past September has been crazy, I've spent more time than I ever have preparing for talks and workshops and getting through the anxiety that comes with it! I thought I would give a little insight into the "unromantic" life of an illustrator. Hot tip: my skin is a thermometer for my stress levels - you can see it get progressively worse and worse throughout the vlog haha! Good to be back. Normal programming soon!

I'm really happy that you showed 11:30. You always seem so motivated and hardworking in your videos, which inspires me. It's comforting(?) to know that someone you look up to can have off days as well. Lately, I've been feeling pretty unmotivated and lethargic. Today, I just could not get myself to read for school. I just stayed in bed, ate my favourite food, and watched The Office haha. But the whole time, I felt guilty about not doing work and giving myself time to rest. Hopefully one day, I can rest without beating myself up for it? I hope you can rewind this month as well! September sounded pretty crazy and stressful haha
Self care and giving yourself a break is SO IMPORTANT, kudos for recognising that. Everyone we look up to has off days - guaranteed! I think it can be easy to forget because of social media sometimes! I get overwhelmed often! X x
Also yes, October is already better because I get to make stuff again and I've got no events to speak at! 💛💛💛

sha'an your videos have aged so fricken well - it's like the most gorgeous patina on the most beautiful piece. i've been watching your videos for about six years now and the early videos are where i am in my life/career now - watching you grow/kick ass/take names has made me feel so much more comforted simply because your positivity and confidence is infectious
When artists say their videos are too long all I can think is you know your audience wants content to watch while they spend hours drawing/painting/creating
Girl, you could make a 3 hours video and I would still think it's short... you are always able to awake my creative side, even when I'm going through a crisis, so thank you for (involuntary) being such an inspiration

I really enjoyed this Sha'an! I think it's important that we see the business aspect of being an artist. Personally to me, the artsy part of being an artist is "easy" or easier, than the business side. No one ever reeeaaaallllly talks about the business aspect of being an artist, and it's the important part! Gets you out there and such. So thank you for showing this side of the art world. Art isn't just about putting pencil to paper, but it's also putting yourself out there, marketing, publicity, etc. So this was nice. Thank you :3

I think burning out is something that happens to everyone no matter their level of experience- I think it does get easier to manage though because you learn to recognise when its happening??

in LA, there’s a museum called the Broad which currently has a piece called “The Visitors” which is an amazing piece of film work. it’s somehow inspiring and haunting and overwhelming all at the same time and when i saw it, i cried and it changed my life. get tix ahead of time but it’s free!

hello friends!! I'm so excited that y'all will be in LA soon! I'm a fourth year student at UCLA and I've lived in the LA area all my life! some recommendations for things to do/places to go:
- for color and fun things to look at, Venice Beach (specifically Abbott Kinney Rd.) has tons of beautiful architecture and art and cute food dessert places (i.e. Salt & Straw for ice cream, Intelligentsia for coffee, C&Os for Italian food); it's overall a super cute lil beach town. I used to work in Venice and would have the best time walking around!
- for a cute lil downtown adventure, I would recommend going to Vista Hermosa park; it's pretty close to downtown and has fun spots to look around/sit and have a picnic and has a great view of the cityscape; in downtown, you could go to Grand Central Market which is just full of food and dessert places!! it's a cute lil hub right by city hall and the food there is great -- it's also super close to K-town if Korean food is more your jam!
- a personal favorite cute restaurant that I love to go to is this place called Home in Los Feliz; it's super cute and outdoors and has string lights and a nice atmosphere!!
- traditional LA scenic things: The Griffith Observatory for some beautiful views and a cute lil museum on astronomy (at sunset, the views are spectacular!), the Hollywood Walk of Fame if you want to be a true tourist in the city), The Grove (which has a movie theater, a bunch of shops, a beautiful fountain, free trolley rides, and an amazing farmer's market)
- lastly... UCLA!! if you guys are at all interested in coming to the UCLA campus, there is really lovely architecture, nice gardens, and cute lil restaurants and cafes in Westwood! let me know if you'd like to grab a coffee or something -- I'd love to show you all around!

Welcome back!!! I feel you 100% - as someone who works in a creative field/position, there are times when you overexert yourself and just burn out. I felt the same way last month, and for me it really helped to take a step back and try to reestablish my relationship with what I’m doing (it also helped to go on a hike haha!). Idk if that makes any sense, but I’m glad you’re feeling better ❤️❤️❤️
Also!! For LA, definitely go visit the Marciano Art Foundation, Norton Simon Museum and the Getty! I love those museums and I think they’re all pretty different from one another. BOBA REC: go to Tan Cha in koreatown as well as Little Fluffy Head in downtown LA. LFH is right next to the Last Bookstore which is an amazing, must see bookstore. Then you can go to Grand Central Market for food. Little Tokyo also has great food/is right next to the Arts District. Tea Master has the best matcha soft serve in the city, and is right next to Sushi Gen. I can go on all day about recommendations for LA haha.
Also the Huntington Library for museums/gardens. Amazing space you can spend all day at!
Yes that is the perfect advice! I had creative block last year and being able to travel really helped because i was completely removed from work and had a clean slate. A change of scenery! I think this time it was mainly feeling overwhelmed by how much seemingly stressful tasks I had. ALSO thanks so much for the hot tips for LA, AND OF COURSE for sharing your struggles - so helpful!

Def do Disneyland! Halloween times is the best, but be careful what day you go, the close early for the Halloween parties! Other fun LA things to do is go to Lacma, or the Getty art museum!
I love little Tokyo, lots of good food places and cute shops, The last book store is really fun too! not too far from there. Its super fun for photos. Olvera street is super nice and one of my favorites. It's got lots of fun shopping and beautiful Mexican artwork. The colors would be right up your alley! good food too! more cute touristy stuff is Santa Monica pier. Theres lots of fun things to do. but I think I like Newport Beach a little more.

A place to go to in LA, the Hammer Museum!! There’s always a cool exhibition going on, totally recommend. I went to high school near by and I would always stop by every couple of months to check it out

Olvera Street is a great place to visit. Whenever I have an art block I like to go there and eat taquitos and take in the bright colors of the shop carts.
for food i HIGHLY recommend superba their bread is SO GOOD. there’s a bunch of museums that are okay definitely check out the natural history museum of LA county it’s really cool. also another food thing, tatsunoya is the best ramen i have ever had its better than any place i’ve tried in lil tokyo tbh its just so good

You've got to try Marugame Monzo in Little Tokyo! The best Udon ever. There's a bit of a wait, but it's super worth it and the staff is super friendly. There's also the the Grand Central Market down Broadway and 3rd street with lots of food options it's really cool. Have fun in LA!:)
