  • Both the ruling party and the opposition have placed unemployment high on the agenda for the 2026 general elections, arguing that if they can prove how to create jobs, they could sway a critical mass of new voters in their direction. An analysis of the released census figures shows that there will be at least 4.5 million new voters in the 2026 general elections. However, there is a belief among NRM Party cadres that the new voters should be inclined to vote for the ruling party, given its policies through which a majority of them have attained education. The NRM Party hopes that its membership will rise to 20 million voters by election time in 2026.
