If you remember, IU was separated from her parents in middle school as her family’s finances fell apart, and she struggled while living in poverty with her grandmother and younger brother during this time (when she has spoken about writing many songs). I believe the lyrics for this song ( it credited to her) - but absolutely reflect her story and deep desire to be reunited with her parents…which would happen after she found some success. She is and always has been such a remarkably strong person.

Thanks again for your reaction to IU. Well, Lee Ji Eun is the bravest person I've seen. Don't just think this song was chosen for IU, take Red Queen, Red Shoes, The age of the cathedrals, Zezé those songs were not chosen for IU, she wrote them or picked them up. She has a very complex mind where songs like Love Poem, Eight, My Sea, knees, through the night, Bbibbi, Dear Name etc were born. Many times we don't understand these songs mean more than one thing at the same time, depends on the day and mood, for example Dear Name may be viewed generally as addressing her own struggles and insecurities and so she pours out her heart to an anonymous recipient, yes that could be it, in Korea though, is related to the Sewol ferry tragedy, even the director of the disaster's documentary Joo Hyun Sook Thanked IU and BTS and went as far as to put IU's name in the closing credits of the film. So what is it? I'll say is both. Having a rough time growing up hurt IU, but also made her the a strong, loving, tender, loyal and honest woman she is. That's why I'll stand her for life, I also think IU is happiest when she sings for UAENA, whatever the case I just hope she'll be happy doing that for as long as she wants.
