- Fellow Legends, welcome! Today we dive into another excellent JoCat video, this time with the long range masters with the techiest of Limit Breaks, the Ranged DPS Role. There are some cool things that the Ranged DPS players get up to, especially when using their Limit Break can hit multiple enemies in a single phase like the Gauis Clones. I haven't delved too deep into Ranged DPS past 50, but there's definitely some cool stuff in their kit. I absolutely loved watching this, and if you did as well then I do absolutely recommend you go and check out the original video to show some support for the source material!

I love how the Bard's Job Story can be summed up by what I like to call the "Reverse Zeus." That is to say, everything is going wrong because they're _actually_ keeping it in their pants.

I loved this series! It's wild because I picked up Machinist just after reacting to this and it blew me out of the water. If you're a mechanically sound player, Machinist is such fun to play. I just hit 60 tonight in Roulettes.
Sadly, there will soon be no more jocat, purely because sad, horrible people decided to bully him for enthusiastically liking girls (and then others piled on because he made a very neutral and non-committal stance when the Hogwarts Legacy thing was going on).

All the morbols are named after Notorious Monsters (basically very rare named monsters with unique loot. No I'm not still salty about Fafnir and Nidhoggs spawn timers or drop rates on the Ridill, why do you ask?) from FFXI. One that sticks in my head is Capricious Cassie but they all had alliterative feminine names like that.

Dancer is pretty fun IMO, but I like Ninja too... I just like pushing lots of buttons ok!

I am actually running Stormblood as Ninja and I'm loving it!
I'm still a Black Mage and Samurai fan, maybe running Dancer through Shadowbringers on stream will sell me on the job.
Comparing Limit Break damage output is a little unorthodox, because there's not any player-facing data on things like 'potency', like other actions. What we do know is that the damage range of a Limit Break is determined by the Average iLvl of everyone's weapons. *Specifically* the weapons, and not any other gear. The higher the Average iLvl, the higher the LB's damage. (This does take into account iLvl Sync)
From there, the best data we have is how well the LBs compare to each other.
If we use the Melee LB3 as the baseline (100%), then a Caster LB3 does ~60% of that damage to a single target, while the Ranged Physical LB3 does ~54% to one target. So strictly speaking, it does make a significant difference in the kind of tight DPS checks that can appear in endgame Savage and Ultimate 1-target fights (and some endgame Extremes), but for general content, outdated content, or content with multiple targets, the math gets a lot more fuzzy and matters less.
So for Dungeon or Alliance Raid shenanigans, go ham, because it's not gonna matter xD
I generally follow the recommended Melee > Ranged DPS > Magic DPS > Tank > Healer hierarchy when thinking about LB in XIV. I let the smarter players discuss the numbers and semantics, if I'm told to press the button I press the button.
@@KipReacts I still remember way back when I first started playing the game as a SMN, while HW was still about 1/2 to 3/4 the way through. I had never used my LB before or anything. Suddenly I am in the Castrum, running along with the group, and the tank gets a big pull right before we open the airship section near the end. And he just asks me to LB because I happened to be there. I.... Was excited to finally be able to do it to down a large trash pull.
Then on another character years later, I caster LB the massive mob pull prior to the final boss in Satasha of all places, and the tank there gets livid that I used LB on the trash instead of the boss. Like... Killing the trash with the LB is quicker than the melee LB would do to the final boss at this level, chill.

A gunshot is really just a long distance stab wound
by the time you can lb the boss is almost dead, using it or not is pretty much only a few seconds difference when completing a duty
LB for ranged and magic does roughly two thirds the damge the melee do
I heard on stream that they shored that up? It's roughly 5%, but 5% of thousands is still 5%. I'm not an expert in this by any means.

I used to run summoner and it was too clunky for me. I tried samurai, and that was a hot mess. Machinist just clicked for me.
Machinist is super cool.
It's got a lot going on, but it goes hard.
There are two kinds of ranged, never-touch-peloton and never-stop-touching-peloton.
My prefered ranged is Dancer. Bard is pure procs and ive legit died trying to watch my bars while being one, and Machinst is ok but meh.

I'm glad I stuck with it though. Zenos is my favorite character across any game I've played.
