I JUST discovered you and binged watched your videos yesterday! Great bingeing on a very rainy Massachusetts day! I really love your style of painting. Your instruction is wonderful, clear, and makes tons of sense. I'm 72 and started with pastels a few years ago. Adore!!! I can use your techniques to inform better pastel paintings for sure! Thanks!

One of the big differences between a seasoned artist and a mere mortal, is that the pro, more often than not, will salvage their painting, where a rookie will usually give up.
Thank you for showing us the true struggle and concerns of producing a painting, Michael.

OMG. You are a watercolorist! The first watercolor of the mountains and sky is amazing. Most people when they start in watercolor are muddy and over worked, but yours are so fresh and lively. Please continue to explore this medium. Re: your oil painting; I think it came out better than you think. Great video as usual.

I really admire the way you simplify such complex scenes, the barn painting and watercolors at the end were amazing. It’s really inspiring me to get back to using that medium again :)

Enjoyed this video especially as i think it sets more challenges than your normal coastal work. Good point about changing some of your colours especially when dealing with vegetation, foliage, grass, etc as it can all go quickly into a green mess. Change of subject matter is also good as it keeps you on your toes. Well done. Paul

Wildflowers, an old barn and distant hills
Resulting in a painting that gives you chills
A more detailed scene is better on a larger canvas
A sketch, a study to stimulate the hypothalamus
Checking angles and geometry, don’t ignore
Race the setting sun, Katie bar the door
Greens to blues, who knows how it really goes
Check Pa-tre-on, it has more videos
    🐮 🐄
I found this painting to be so beautiful! I love the scene. So peaceful.

Love the water colors. And I disagree about the painting. It’s really good. Very different from others you do. I believe it would be like your railroad track painting. Love your channel! You are real and said that you were not happy with the way the barn painting turned out. It is refreshing to share all your thoughts with your viewers. Just a thought --- if you made the barn further off in the distance, it would not be as much of the focus in the painting. Compositionally it might be better. Just a thought.

HIya Michael! This is a timely video. A friend of mine asked me to paint a barn that was from her childhood. Unfortunately the photo she gave me is from the 70s and faded, and doesn't include the surroundings. Even though you're not satisfied with your painting, I love it - so loose, lots of texture, nice lighting and color harmony. Maybe this vid can help me figure out how to give her barn some new life and color! Thanks again for your videos!

I wouldn’t say this painting isn’t something not to be satisfied about. It was good! Favorite parts being the grass color choice contrasting with the barn color. Only thing I’d say would been to have kept the scene treeless, I think it looked incredible simple and peaceful without the trees

@@chamberlainpaintings Michael, you capture the energy of light in the barn walls even though they are dark, they glisten. As if feels like the viewer can actually step onto the path the rising trees , so near , yet rise beyond the sky, and further the depth, center painting, as the path pulls below the roof over hang. The feeling of “” size “” in the depth is increased by the “” rise “” center in the mountain, with upward slopes , right, then greater , but subtle to the left, the highest point transfers a 3 dimension quality feeling for the viewer. The roofing hold the disappearing light, as an orange hue from evenings horizon. The barn yard, it’s fence joined, holds the woods at mid left and the grasses decorated at right. The sky seems brought towards and above , that’s from the young leaves, in the branches, everyone feels them “” growing “” in their transparencies. Michael, this painting, it is many times more beautiful than you may realize ❤️

For me it looks like you' re are off to a great start with this painting - kind of a roughing in that 'will be the under painting for the finished piece. Do you take reference photos for use when the light changes or even use later in the studio to treak the painting?

I’m so impressed with your oil painting and the watercolour. You seem to have taken to watercolour quite quickly. I’m interested to know what you think about watercolour compared to oils. I’ve been painting with watercolour for over 6 years and I’m struggling to get to the next level. Do you think that your skills in oil have transferred over to watercolour?
