There was a time when one talked about music the first thing someone would say...."Beatles or Stones." My response was always...."The Who and Zeppelin." Best bands ever.
As a bassist myself I recognized the ox as a bass god early on. What I do not get is Pete Townsend not being recognized as a great LEAD guitarist. Whether it is a SG, Tele or Strat he always sounds ace!
deathmetaldouglas69 And a great keyboard player and EPIC songwriter. I'm pretty excited they're coming to my area on Sept. 23rd. Good tickets are at least 100 dollars and many VIP seats upward of $ 1500....
Man, Zak Starkey was a BEAST! I'd check his DNA because he's closer to Moon than his dad playing-wise. This was the Ox's best performance since the late 60's-70's. Listen to that tone! He brought the THUNDER! Townsend and Daltrey were spot-on and the guest appearances were great. THANK YOU MSTRSAIL for posting this... surely one of the best concerts EVER!
I am so pleased with Zac's fit with The Who. He may not be Keith Moon but he is the best fit of all who tried to fill those shoes. How many can say they played with not only the greatest Rock and Roll band of their own GGGeneration but this one as well. Played with living legends, in the ghost of a revered dead one, and held up his end of the log admirably.
It was inevitable Keith Moon would crash and burn, and continuing with Zak Starkey was probably their best decision. I like Simon Philips; he could have pulled it off in the longer term, I don't know why he was only a temp. And Kenney Jones just didn't seem to fit right, good as he is. Zak is a perfect fit I think.
Los Beatles, The Who, The Stones, Led Zeppelin, Negro Sabbath, Queen, Iggy Pop y The Stooges, The Ventures. Por supuesto, todo esto es subjetivo y refleja mi propia opinión personal. Eso es lo bueno de rock n roll muchas grandes bandas de muchos puntos de vista diferentes de la Paz Hermano / Hermana de Michigan
The Who... Eddie Vedder... how could rock'n'roll be more expressive.... more sensitive... Roger, Pete and John were past their sixties by that time and Eddie just fits in! Great "gutsy" rock... just sheer pleasure
Karen Francis You're right, but I've just seen the footage of Glastonbury 2015, with Pete saying "We're here to send you home... HAPPY!" And I think they did... Like I said, they haven't changed a bit in 50 years: they're on a stage to fight a war... and they win it!
Yes Glastonbury 2015 was brilliant. Pity the bbc didn't publish all of it. I'm still amazed at the fitness and vocal power of Roger Daltrey and of course Pete is still Pete. They both seemed to really enjoy themselves, long may they reign
Karen Francis Glad you see it my way! I loved the Stones, but it seems they're past their best... I still LOVE "Thee 'oooo"! But let's be honest: the vocal power of Roger... 'mmmmhhh... (referred to Glastonbury)... the 70-ish are there (and this time I'm right with the dates!), but he remains one of the best!
There isn't anyone of that era that can deliver as well vocally today. I have been a fan of Roger since the age of 9 when I pinned him to my bedroom wall (so to speak) so I'm a little biased perhaps!
I saw The Who live three weeks ago. It's like your life-long love. Sure, she's older, sagging a bit, maybe the youth is gone, but when you look in her eyes she's still the same incredible girl you've known all your life. Pete and Rog still have the fire, and I'm glad they're keeping it alive.
John Entwhistle was (and is) the greatest bass player of all time. He played his axe like a lead instrument, and his solos are beyond the comprehension of we mere mortals. The Who are the greatest fucking live act of all time. I can't believe that geezers in the year 200 could put on as great of a show as this. It is amazing.
JJJZANESVILLE2 I guess, in the end, it is........whatever......give it your best guess....My best guess: life is nothing whatsoever, but living and dying. Period. Do your best to disagree and good luck.
Got to see the movie 'WOODSTOCK', as late as 1977, in New Delhi. The theater had 'Sense-o-Sound', considered the ultimate then. I'd already been hooked to The Who, having already tasted Who's Next, Tommy, Quadrophenia & etc....Remember the moment when The Who appeared in the movie - the next moment, I was on the theater seat standing & shrieking. Had to be calmed by the security personnel. I'm 53 & still listen and love their music (it makes me cry, esp Quadrophenia). THANK YOU PETE.
The first three records I bought (it took three weeks of pocket money for each!): I Can't Explain (still sends a shiver down my spine), Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere (chaos managed quite well), and My Generation (which still makes me feel young even at 61!). The Who - BLESS
The Who a sonic gift to my ears. Rodger sounding pretty good., He and Pete are fellow seniors. How cool to have them be the house band at the senior center.
The great thing about Zak Starkey playing with The Who is that he has the spirit of Moonie in his playing. No one will ever sound like Keith but his energy and spirit need to be a part of their live shows or it isn't worth the effort and he brings that here. Bargain is a great example of the energy he brought back to this great band.
Damn watching them play My Generation is pretty amazing. Watching old men sing a song they wrote when they were rebellious young men. Most old men forget how they felt when they were young, but these guys. They relive it every time they sing that song.
Gotta love The Who. Real, true musicians don't need fancy stage shows, dancers, and a whole team of produces to make music. They are good on their own!
Not a major Who fan growing up. But as time passes and perspective grows, you've got to see how great they are. Townsend is one of the best songwriters alive. A true literary. The father of punk. And it's a rare band that has its best musician on bass. Name one bass player better than Entwistle? Moon? One of a kind and so imitated. Daltrey is the perfect front man, a true rough and tumble guy with voice to embody Townsend's oft times tough stance on life. Brilliant.
I saw Jimi at Cov. He was on with the original Pink Floyd. Couldn't take your eyes off him. He seemed to come from another planet. I know The Who were big fans as he was a big fan of The Who. I think they influenced each other. Weren't we lucky to grow up when we did ? Just think of all the bands we were lucky to see. Right place, right time. I nearly met The Who once but thats another tale. Tell you later.
I so grateful for my dad to let me listen to old music. It all started with the Red and Blue Compilation CDs of the Beatles, and look where I am right now. "The Who Live", suggestions are Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Cream, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young... Thanks dad!
I first saw the Who in 1973 St. Louis, and this is blowing my mind. Zak is incredible on drums. No one could replace Keith but my God this is fantastic.
i went to see these men at the MEN arena in Manchester in 2000. I just sat there with my mouth open for 2 hours!!! Absolutely Ridiculous. R.I.P the OX .How can you make that noise from a Bass. The real me still give me goose bumps God Bless you John.
Pete Townsend sort of invented "hard" rock, but the melodies in his songs are superior to many other groups, and this all began when? 1964? 1965? Amazing! Keith's manic drumming, John's melodic hard bass..............never gonna' see the likes of these three again.......and, of course Roger's rockin' voice!
Daltrey has said before Townshend started writing, he only sang in a Howlin' Wolf/James Brown style. Pete's songs pulled him out of his comfort zone, and early on, it showed. Some early live clips showed him struggling, but I think he adapted nicely. He took on the melodies, and did a good job with them, and as his vocal style developed, we all can see what he became.
I know what you mean, dude. Many great songs and movies over the years have made me wish there was a god because, how could such superior humans have come up with the art they have, if there's no God? But that was about the end of it.
David Jackson Ringo was okay for the simple stuff the Beatles performed, but you couldn't compare him to Keith Moon-he invented the rock drumming style that Bonham, Ward and even guys today replicate to some degree and he did it damn well.
the Royal Albert Hall is great for live concerts, sonically its right up there with the best, and the acoustics do strange things.anyone who has been there will know what i mean and the Who sounded great here,as did Clapton, and many others who played there. The Who,legends.
Saw them in Atlanta in the Second "Quadrophenia" tour. They played the whole movie on a screen, and They played songs from the movie live. Incredible and magical night. Roger did most of the talking to the people there, and he is very kind to the fans. The whole band is really into the fans. I hope I get to see them again. If you can go see them, you will be happy you did. Great upload.
Pete's guitar sound in combination with John's bass playing are the ultimate rock sound, with the organ in the background. I love it. This is their best set list. Wish I was there.
WOUW! GREAT LIVE PERFORMANCE! Already with 3 years I loved the songs of The WHO. I am 42 today and this hasn't changed. The WHO are one of my absolute favourite musicbands. Thank you for having such a good taste, daddy! :)
You are right, I am 55 and have been a WHO fan when the "TOMMY" Lp first hit the record stores. I have seen the WHO one time with the original 4. This was right before Moonie left us...I a saw them with Kenny Jones on drums on the next tour and the band was great, but Moon was a one of a kind drummer and was missed. Entwistle is a monster on BASS just unique...Pete is a genius and one of a kind...Daltrey is right up there with Plant for lead ROCK GOD singer....Just a treasure..
The Who- who are you= I have grown-up with this music, I am very glad to still be able to see/hear this music. most people cannot see their music greats. I play drums, listening to and playing with Keith my mentor. will see this The who in 2015..
I have a few favorite bands but my love affair wit "The Who" began after I saw the "Kids are All Right" while in College back in 1979. I was forever changed. I had the pleasure of personally meeting and shaking the hand of John Entwistle shortly before the Who Quadrophenia concert in St. Louis in 1999 at an art exhibit he was premiering in Clayton, MO. I told him personally what he and his band meant to me. I must say though. John looked old, weak and tired which really concerned me then.
This, for me, was the best music of my life. The lyrical, Beatles. The edgy, Rolling Stones, The power of The Who, and Led Zeppelin. There were so many bands, and so many great performers .I feel sorry, for the kids in 2013. There isn't anything like this, now!
They rock harder or better than anything half their age as well. Saw them live at Madison Square Garden a few months back doing the entire Quadrophenia, and was simply blown away. Best concert I've ever seen and they're both just shy of 70!!!
undoubtedly one of the greatest & best rock concerts ever ; what a mindblowin performance , what a band !!! strangely enough never found any records of their Oval performance , neither the Faces', me thinks , first time with Ronnie Wood -?
I love how Townshend uses a pick for the slow acoustic stuff, yet fingerpicks his awesome solos. I'm not bad at fingerpicking, but I sure as hell never thought of using that technique for fast, electric solos. Mark Knopfler does the same thing. Fantastic
I am old, followed the WHO all my life....(apart from Jimi Hedrix, who they LOVED of course) NOBODY in the history of Rock and Roll could follow them...and Jimi would agree..he would be PROUD...the best live rock and roll band in the world (thank you God that I lived in this generation!)
Live music does not get much better than this! The Who....born to be LIVE...46 years since I first saw them live....they have lasted well! Just consider who they have influenced as well....
I was lucky enough to see the original Who way back in '67'in Coventry. They brought the curtain down in the middle of My Generation and Pete went berserk. He ended up in front of the curtain and smashed a double-necked Gibson on the floor. Classic !! Saw Hendrix at the same venue around that time. My God he was good. Was he better ? No ,just as good but different.
> Relay , the way The Who performed it here, 2008 at the Royal Albert Hall, must be really one of the most underrated pieces of rock-music of all time , its a true gem , sparkling out into the musical universe . Boy , do they kick the shit into the fan !!! Fan-tastic , absolutely fantastic ! - send it out on the next Voyager - trip
I saw Roger Daltrey perform Tommy in Hartford Ct. with Simon Townshend and let me tell you Daltrey can still bring it. That concert was the best I've ever seen. (And to make this comment complete John's solo nearly made my head explode and Pete's riffs were incredible as well)
Ditto. Am, still a diehard The Who fan. I live in Nepal, so I had to conjure up these images, esp Quadrophenia. Loved every moment of their journey from the Detours to The Who. They all singularly stood out, but for me on a personal note, Peter Townshend is by far 'the backbone' of the band. Who can deny John's brilliance or Keith's ferocity, for that matter? The Stones post Brian Jones are no match. Thank You. You made my day.
John's solo on 5:15 changed my life I swear. 10 years of trying to be Jaco and NOW I play like I wanto to (and annoy the guitarsits, which is always an achievement ;) ) RIP JAE, we miss you dammit!
I have been a Who fan since 1967, have seen them 6 times and am going again in November. Even at this late date I am still amazed at the power and artistry that this band puts out!!!! Pete and company rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this concert...one of their best, especially Daltrey playing the harmonica at the end of Magic Bus, Entwistle's bass solo in 5:15 and the new extra verse in The Kids are Alright.......Brilliant
Seen them live in Amsterdam 9 days ago, still cannot believe it.They used footage of Johnś solo from this concert during the 5,15 performance, and Keithś during Bell boy.It was simply amazing, and totally worth the travel. big thanks for the upload:o)
That said though, Noel did an excellent job here. Imagine looking around him and seeing that cast of characters... it would seem like a dream that you were actually there.
Why John was and will always be the best bass player of all time? 21:03 - 25:16. The sound John was producing w/ that buzzard and rig was unbelievable. He was the reason Pete and Zak were playing so tight in 2000.
Just saw The Who's 'Quadrophenia' live show last Saturday night. Such nostalgia and they're still (amazing) really bringing the hard rock 'n roll -- 2 hours and 20 minutes on stage without a break. Not bad for some older guys. Truly missed seeing John and Keith, who were great so long ago, this time around with the band. Love this London concert on TH-cam -- though it's sadly missing "Love Reign O'er Me."
Simply the Greatest, Most Fantastic Rock N Roll Group That the World has ever seen! Hands Down! Never experienced a group that PULLS you out of your seat, like THE WHO!!!
There was a time when one talked about music the first thing someone would say...."Beatles or Stones." My response was always...."The Who and Zeppelin." Best bands ever.
John Entwistle THE Bassist of the MILLENIUM - Without John's Bass there's NO WHO SOUND!!!
R.I.P. John Entwistle, you were a bass God among mere mortals.
Pete on the song "Drowned" is simply legendary!...." I've forgotten the word..." LMAO!!!Incredible guitar playing. he man is a Genius!
R.I.P John
R.I.P Keith
Man, Zak Starkey was a BEAST! I'd check his DNA because he's closer to Moon than his dad playing-wise.
This was the Ox's best performance since the late 60's-70's. Listen to that tone! He brought the THUNDER!
Townsend and Daltrey were spot-on and the guest appearances were great.
THANK YOU MSTRSAIL for posting this... surely one of the best concerts EVER!

Sak es muy bueno, pero hasta físicamente y en sus movimientos para tocar se parece a Keith monn, hasta parecería que lo imita..@@5jerry1
If there was only one rock band, it would have to be the Who for me.
Dr. Spankula agrees
The Who are the best, Zak Starkey is fantastic. But Keith Moon was the man when he wasn't totaled.
Got that right.
Quizás es mucho decir, sin duda son de las mejores 20 bandas y siempre fueron muy originales.....Lo que si, es tambien indudable es que Tienen la mejor voz del rock and roll.

The Who... Eddie Vedder... how could rock'n'roll be more expressive.... more sensitive... Roger, Pete and John were past their sixties by that time and Eddie just fits in! Great "gutsy" rock... just sheer pleasure
Dino De Faveri The concert was 2000 so I think you'll find that puts them into their 50s
Karen Francis

Drum with Mr. Entwistle may be ever drummer's dream. Zak Starkey is a lucky guy!
And an excellent drummer.
For sure
The Who's performance at Woodstock in '69, despite Pete's comments to the contrary, is, in my opinion, their best. We marched to that music!
The Who in top form - WOW!!!!
Drummer Zack Starkey is doing a great job / Nigil Kennedy sits in on violin in Baba O'Reilly - double WOW!!!
1:34:15 - 1:34:20 One of the greatest bass licks ever..
John Entwhistle was (and is) the greatest bass player of all time. He played his axe like a lead instrument, and his solos are beyond the comprehension of we mere mortals.
The Ox, Thunderfingers, John left us too soon, but he left a vast legacy.
Flea, Geddy Lee, you're both great but you both learned from the master.
The Who are the greatest fucking live act of all time. I can't believe that geezers in the year 200 could put on as great of a show as this. It is amazing.
jesus has mercy for you- ewtn.com and tbn.com
richard t Gallegos Hey go take your bullshit somewhere else please.
yeah, I love 'em...but hold on...love your children, it's all about the kids....fuck it, I don't have the fucking answer

Can't wait to see them on the 50th anniversary tour next year
Seeing them November 1. I can't wait any longer!
Jody Schweigman I've got 294 days to wait .TICK-TOCK!
Jody Schweigman May be seeing them on May 17th in Philadelphia
Ann Grill Awesome! Post some videos?
Like I said Jody, I might go. If so, I'll probably not post a video
John Entwistle's fingers dancing all over his bass truly is a thing of beauty to watch as well as to listen!
These guys still have a lot of energy. Always great to see that.
this is a fifteen year old video dude..
Paul Russo I saw them in 2013 and Pete and Roger still had great energy.
Paul Russo I saw them in 2013 and Pete and Roger still had great energy.
+Gregory Eatroff I just saw them in May, and man they still rock the hell out of any band today...
The great thing about Zak Starkey playing with The Who is that he has the spirit of Moonie in his playing. Now they're The Two :(. Glad I saw them in '78 :D !!
One of the greatest bassists that ever lived.
Wish video makers would catch a clue, and spend
more than 2.5 seconds on him.
who is a legend of there own. wow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So happy Pete started playing elecric again. I guess thats the beauty of In Ear monitors.
one of best live band I ever seen or heard. Amazing.

the who died with john!
I first saw the Who in 1973 St. Louis, and this is blowing my mind. Zak is incredible on drums. No one could replace Keith but my God this is fantastic.

I know what you mean, dude. Many great songs and movies over the years have made me wish there was a god because, how could such superior humans have come up with the art they have, if there's no God? But that was about the end of it.
Never seen a bass solo like that in... my... life. And probably never will again.
Kneel to the departed master.
This drummer is good, but has nothing on Keith. Also, no I Can See For Miles? One of their best songs
this drummer was taught to play by his Godfather, who just happened to be ........Keith Moon. Zak is a lucky lad his Dad did not teach him!!
David Jackson Ringo was okay for the simple stuff the Beatles performed, but you couldn't compare him to Keith Moon-he invented the rock drumming style that Bonham, Ward and even guys today replicate to some degree and he did it damn well.
Jimmy Poon Tang No I Can See for Miles, no Going Mobile, and lots of ones I'd like to hear again.
Keith is Dead...for the Ones that havent noticed...so any comparisons are bullshit
did you know that the organisers of 2012 in London invited Keith to play with Rog and Pete;so not everyone knows
Born in 1950 in NL I growed up with The Beatles, Stones et cetera. I missed many concerts. Thanks for placing this on youtube.
Why the organ?? It sounds like shit to me. Unnecessary.
+Tiozinho Babacofóbico In " I Cant Explain"
the Royal Albert Hall is great for live concerts, sonically its right up there with the best, and the acoustics do strange things.anyone who has been there will know what i mean and the Who sounded great here,as did Clapton, and many others who played there. The Who,legends.

It's insane that these geezers can still put on a performance as powerful as this.
WOUW! GREAT LIVE PERFORMANCE! Already with 3 years I loved the songs of The WHO. I am 42 today and this hasn't changed. The WHO are one of my absolute favourite musicbands. Thank you for having such a good taste, daddy! :)

What's even more awesome about this is that the legendary Nigel Kennedy is on violin for them. Just a disgusting amount of talent on that stage.
The Who- who are you= I have grown-up with this music, I am very glad to still be able to see/hear this music. most people cannot see their music greats. I play drums, listening to and playing with Keith my mentor. will see this The who in 2015..

It is just amazing/beautiful when Peter introduced a explanation to his old song "The kids are alright". I think it is just brillant!
I had forgotten how bad ass these guys are, and yes, that drummer nailed it.
Great John, RIP, great Musicians and the best Live- Band ever...I love their Music all the Time...
that bass solo!! the best bassist in the world is here guys!
My favorite band.
I got to see this tour in 2000 when they came to Denver. I couldn't take my eyes off of Zak Starkey. To this day, the best drummer i've seen live.
1:19:00 Pete's harmony makes my hair stand on end, just so powerful, my fav performance of that night.
Whosever in charge of the spotlight for John has a easy job! He's the ultimate Bass player. LONG LIVE THE WHO!
I've never seen a video with two "top comments" that I love more than this one.
God they're amazing- I say again- only the Stones can stand toe to toe with them
undoubtedly one of the greatest & best rock concerts ever ; what a mindblowin performance , what a band !!!
strangely enough never found any records of their Oval performance , neither the Faces', me thinks , first time with Ronnie Wood -?
Total respect due to Roger as a vocalist, still singing these great songs in the original (VERY HIGH) keys. Amazing.
I love how Townshend uses a pick for the slow acoustic stuff, yet fingerpicks his awesome solos. I'm not bad at fingerpicking, but I sure as hell never thought of using that technique for fast, electric solos. Mark Knopfler does the same thing. Fantastic
He is easily one of the greatest of all time.. Even in this when he is so much older he still just wails!!
Relay has one of the coolest instrumental grooves between John and Pete right in the middle. Love it!
I miss my youth, 50 and memories of Scooters, runs and th general life style jut come flooding back.
naked stoned and sad... so many of us... Thank God for the Who...we're lucky this brilliance can invade our ears with pleasure
FANTASTIC THE WHO.... I born on 1980... and I only have the luck to discover them now.... absolutely amazing genius pete and roger!
This was when they were still fully on. Roger's voice is in place, too. I love it.
hearing a performance as good as this makes me miss entwistle even more
I saw Roger Daltrey perform Tommy in Hartford Ct. with Simon Townshend and let me tell you Daltrey can still bring it.
Magic Bus is just untouchable. What a song for power plus audience participation. Just ultimate cool.
John's solo on 5:15 changed my life I swear. 10 years of trying to be Jaco and NOW I play like I wanto to (and annoy the guitarsits, which is always an achievement ;) )
RIP JAE, we miss you dammit!
I have been a Who fan since 1967, have seen them 6 times and am going again in November. Even at this late date I am still amazed at the power and artistry that this band puts out!!!! Pete and company rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this concert...one of their best, especially Daltrey playing the harmonica at the end of Magic Bus, Entwistle's bass solo in 5:15 and the new extra verse in The Kids are Alright.......Brilliant
john entwistle standing there looking all calm and cool..gotta love that
John Entwistle has is far and away the most incredible bass player ever. Awesome...
One of the best live bands ever to come out of the UK !!! They know how to rock and Ringos son on drums is fantastic
John was the best bass player of all time. RIP John, we miss you so much
blown away by Pete's tone and playin'...Wow he just gets better with time !
No other rock band like the Who - in their prime and still (but Keith and Ox are sorely missed!)
And his amazing solo on 5 15
best stage , noel gallagher, and all guests, the great ox, and ringo starr 's son on drums , really nice emotional moment.THE WHO!!
The Greatest Loudest Rock Band around!! The Who is 1 Awesome band....
