- This Starry Night Polymer Clay Jewellery set is a spin on Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night painting. This is one of my favorite of his works and I thought that I would love to capture it in polymer clay.
I created pendants in a full collar design in order to do justice to the panorama of the Starry Night.

Your design reminds me of Edvard Munch's paintings. It's amazing that your attractive necklace started out looking like play dough. It's an interesting process. I've never worked with those materials and have some questions. Do you have a video that shows the pasta machine, the oven you used and the products in the package that you used? And when you're heating the material, does it create a big odor in the house and is it safe for humans or animals to breathe or would I need to do this in a separate workshop? Do you use a safety mask when heating or working with these materials? Also, what is the estimate of how much this hobby costs for a beginner? Thank you for the lesson and information.😊

Patience is definitely a virtue… This was so interesting to watch. The detailed steps created a gorgeous piece of jewelry….. I always ask, How does one keep from getting their fingers from getting cut, while working with your blades? I’ve had a tough go. Can you purchase them with sturdy handles on the sides

In regards to the blades. It takes practice not to get nicked. When I first started, I used a relatively dull blade to help me get used to it without the risk of getting cut.

Little idea since drilling straight for that distance can be a pain and since you're layering black on as a backing: cut up some thin bar stock (you can find it at hardware stores, or just use the straight bits of a wire coat hanger) and lay that between the backing and front, then press it together. You won't be able to use the cutter to cut the backing this time, but since you already have the front bit, cutting shouldn't be that hard. Once cut, give it a little twist (might be best to lube it) to make sure it can be pulled free after curing the piece.

Just tried this technique to make some tiles for mixed media with fantastic results! Mine look kind of like oil and water mixing-stunning! Also burnished a very fine lace into some and topped with Perfect Pearls--wow!! Thank you!

Yes. I'm running it through the thickest setting on my pasta machine.

Jessama, what happens if you have an uneven spot on your jewelry after you resin it? I'm sure that happens, where the resin doesn't entirely self level causing the piece to have more in one spot than another. What do you do when that happens? Do you just resand the piece?
Great tutorial but if you rotated your cutter after each cut by a half turn you could easily get less waste clay and a more random pattern

When did you add the holes to string them and were they drilled after baking?
I added the holes at around the 25:26 mark in the video. They were drilled after baking.

I’m new to this, but I find that following tutorials we have different pasta machines. When you say to use 2nd to thinnest setting do I use the same on mine? Because mine had 9 settings and yours I believe has 7 in these videos? What if someone doesn’t say what the actual number setting is or what their machine goes to?

Your using Accu-Flex. Is that a stretchy cord? Sorry if it's a stupid question, I'm just a beginner.
Accu-Flex doesn't stretch, but isn't to ridged at the same time. :D

Hi Samantha, what is your thickest setting on your pasta machine?? Mine is 3mm.
Mine is about 5mm thick.
Is there a reason you didn't use a Bake and Bond product to adhere the raw clay back to the baked clay front? And... beautiful work, as usual!
I some times use Bake and Bond, but if I'm doing a smear around the edges of the bead I don't tend to use Bake and Bond as I find it makes it hard to work with the clay. It make the whole thing very slippery.
The foam piece you are using looks like the one from Birchbox.

Polymer clay is cured by baking at the recommend temperature on the packet. :D
Hi! Great tutorials you make. I am new to making Polymer clay and you are a GREAT inspiration. I have some questions I hope you will answer. What brand of clay do you use? And for how long do you bake your products? I use Fimo, and I have a problem to get my things hard when I bake them. And the color "bleeds" on to my fingers so I have to always wash my hands when changing colors. I also wounder if you varnish all your products. If so, for what reason. And what do you use? I like to use Kato and Premo polymer clay. The Kato is great for canes because it's a little on the hard side while Premo is great for mokume gane and sculpting because it's softer. Both are great for surface techniques and faux effects.
I bake my pieces for a minimum of an hour. Most of the time it's longer than that if you add up all the multiple bakings I do.
Fimo isn't my favorite mainly because it bleeds color and it's more crumbly that Kato or Premo. I like to use different gloves for each color when I use it.
I don't varnish all my pieces. I have to varnish if I have something other than polymer clay in the project because the varnish will protect it. I also like to varnish when I want a certain look to a piece. For instance resin gives a glassy finish while a matte varnish will leave it with a lovely matte finish. However you don't need to varnish if you only have clay in your projects.

Thank you for this tutorial. I love these colours and hope to be able to do this technique in different colours. I wondered, if you have textured the back, is it necessary to sand the back? I don't mind sanding, but if I can reduce the time I spend doing that, I'll have more time to make more beads! :-)
You don't have to sand the back if you've got a texture on the back. I like a slightly shiny texture on the back, but it looks great matte.

It's silly, but is anyone else bothered by the shadow? I wonder if it's less distracting on a larger screen? I'm excited to see the results, however!
Is there any concern with using the wax and it getting on clothing? I’ve never used it before.
I've used it for many years now and after a 24 hour drying period it's perfectly fine.
Ugh, may I ask you one more question please. What size crimps do you use for the 49 strand accuflex? The ones I have do not fit. I have to order from amazon to get mine but I couldn’t find any info on the size of crimps. It doesn’t say on the packaging either.
