Seriously though, can’t people realise that capitalism is good but doesn’t solve everything. Just tax people and redistribute. Otherwise you‘ll end up with centralised planning nightmare or market socialism which is the National Bolshevism of Econ.

@@goodlookinouthomie1757 Sorry, I didn't really articulate what I meant well; what I was trying to say really is that unless someone genuinely came up from complete poverty entirely through their own work, we all to some extent benefit from living in a society in which our collective efforts greatly improve productivity and efficiency, although the system is set up to benefit the already rich considerably more. Success is a product of the extent to which one has benefited from this system, luck, and of course hard work and intelligence, and I can respect anyone who has worked hard for what they have, especially if they came up from a disadvantaged part of society. This whole 'self-made' person thing really irks me though, as it is almost always just invoked by those who have benefited most from the capitalist system, luck, and from exploiting the hard work of others, and often seems to be used as an excuse for ignoring that and shirking the responsibility to give back to the wider community who elevated them to that position

Forget party lines, skin colors or country borders and focus on what matters:
Who get access to vital resources. Who gets to work for them. And who gets to pay to keep the system running.

Wealth hoarding is akin to theft. As the wealth is extracted at the top the people at the bottom have to work that much harder to replace the money that would otherwise be circulating in the system. They get richer, we work harder for less services and a decreasing standard of living and freedoms.

So many things have to be said here.
There are two types of billionaires - One is the tech (Bezos or Musk or Branson) and the other is from those who draw salaries.
Jamie Dimon and Sundar Pichai are rare examples of the second kind. And you’re right, it’s almost impossible to become a billionaire by having a 9 to 5.
The first kind are billionaires because they have built robust businesses of SCALE - Amazon runs the largest distribution network on the planet, Google has the largest information network and so on and so forth.
I don’t thing tech billionaires “take” from anyone or steal or exploit. Yes Bezos can pay his workers more but he’s not legally obligated to.
Financial arbitrage actors are the worst since they gamble with other people’s money with NO SKIN IN THE GAME.
Yes a billion dollars is a LOT of money but as long as they don’t steal from anyone it’s fine.

Oligarchs. One thing that is super hilariously unfair... is when you see big landowners that own a ton land in big cities like New York and the like, that build big apartment buildings on it and rent that out... making a killing in the process... only get richer the more expensive living space becomes. They then put that land into a trust... then the family takes loans that the trust pays off... and bam tax evaded.
Also, most Billionaires are not "self made"... in most cases what they do is misuse workers they hire by paying them the absolute minimum they have to pay them so they not quit... but never paying them what they could pay them. The "saved" money is then kept or reinvested into the company... that's what make them rich.
3:45 I could not have said it more to the point then this.

There's always an exception to the rule, like Tiger woods who made a billion by playing golf, or Lewis hamilton who must be on his way to a billion by racing cars..
The reality of great wealth is you can only piss in one toilet at a time, you can only drive one car at a time and you can only live in one house at a time. Billionaires just become collectors because of this reality. The Stark conspiracy is a great book by Ben Elton that describes how worthless great wealth is when all the rich end up on some space station whilst the poor people die on the earth. Most of them commit suicide by opening the airlock doors because their wealth has no context anymore..

I think the greatest “self made billionaire” myth is Jeff Bezos. The whole “he started Amazon in his garage” thing, making it sound like it started in your average person’s garage with just hard graft forging it on. When in reality he was a Vice-president of an investment management hedge fund by the time he was 30. So he was already a millionaire before he even contemplated setting up Amazon. And when he finally did start the company he based it initially in an Indian reservation outside of San Fransisco in order to avoid paying taxes.
On top of that he also took $300,000 “investment” from his parents. He took the company public 3 years after starting, a simple thing to do for a former hedge fund guy. He then used the 54 million he raised by taking the company public to buy out smaller competitors. And with the competition nullified Amazon grew, enough that he was able to get a 2 BILLION DOLLAR loan from the banks to expand the company further into web services, which was on top of the estimated $350,000,000 in cash the company already had. Then they went close to bankruptcy, because they were spending so much money investing in so many parts of the company. But it bounced back, and did well for a number of years, even gaining a contract with the Central Intelligence Agency for $600 MILLION for “web services”.
I getting carried away. The point is, Bezos wasn’t so guy starting a company in his garage with everything on the line. He was a millionaire who still used a lot of money from his family to help start his company, and grew it using his knowledge of the financial industry which he had gotten by being a major player in hedge funds already…..

    • @libertymedia8080
      @libertymedia8080 3 ปีที่แล้ว

From everything you describe it sounds like he is self made to me. If you take $300,000 and turn it into a company worth $1.7 trillion its clear that he founded a company which creates an incredible amount of value and distributes it to a vast number of people and that is something worthy of praise. Just because you might not value what he has done doesn't mean that the rest of the world doesn't value it because evidently most people do, hence why some many people are amazon customers. You go on to dismiss him because he received investment and won customers (what wrong with that? it wasn't free money everyone got something in exchange).
Obviously amazon has employees and they help create the businesses value too, no one is dismissing that when people say Jeff is a self made billionaire. The fact is people didn't give Jeff his money for free they all got something more valuable to them in exchange. Not being handed it on a plate is what most people see being self made is. If he inherited billions i would agree with you, but of course the reality is he didn't.

The more he wants makes him determined to do anything, legal, and illegal, but he borrows and buys lawyers for tax and other purposes (Trump?). To be a billionaire u need to hit 50m-100m mark then u invest in both an idea, buying running good tear businesses and general investments mostly in stocks in total of 75% of your money. Then if the big startup works in couple years you might hit the billion mark after a decade or so. You also needto some how work in tich with government.
It is doable to be a 100M, i would say. Then if you when hit that point you have a chance 10% to get to a billion in the next 20 years.

I agree with almost everything in this video but it was very odd for you to include a clip of Prince John at 3:20 because his wealth was acquired by using the police and military to extort wealth from the poor via excessive taxation. It was weird for you to not further address taxation in this video.

  • @interested-q4d

The Conservative Government created the bedroom tax clause making it harder to rent premises to live making thousands of people in London go up north t o live in smaller accommodation. The aim was to free up accommodation for families. Afterwards there were thirty thousand houses in London left standing vacant so their owners could watch the price go up. Meanwhile homelessness continued to rise. During the pandemic of course this was resolved but housing is still a problem . The bedroom tax was just a moneymaking scam.
