I actually agree to this, when I first watched it, I have no problem with the animation or anything really since I grow up watching anime or any kind of cartoons. So, yeah it was an amazing eddisode and wish I could see more! ^^
I also liked Saloonatics, more because the animation and drawing style is very innovative and I personally like it a lot, there is no need for all the episodes to be the same, it is good to vary from time to time
god everythng about saloonatics makes me so happy and a huge part of that is the style of the animation. body type variations, the palette, how charming it all looked, and the animation key frame style was very reminiscant of 00s anime-inspired cartoons. id happily watch an entire series in the style. i rewatch it frequently and get really excited by what it offers to the future of eddsworld, diverse artstyle does so much for characterisation! short tom and tall, triangular-chested matt???? god that does SO much for them
This video was kind of a joy to edit simply because of how pretty this episode is. I obviously had an admiration for Saloonatics before, but after spending hours skimming through it to find apropriate clips I've really come to love just how cozy the whole thing looks. Do you agree with my opinion? What's your favourite looking Eddisode? I'm out of isolation by the way. That's pretty great.
No, I don't agree. It may be intentional, it may be because of budget restraints, but that doesn't mean that it looks good. I understand why it's animated like this, but I don't like it.
As a person who animates, I can relate to this. I am not amazing at it, but when I watched saloonatics, I actually had nostalgia from when I used to watch anime. Anyway that’s my say, I agree with this video! Thanks for keeping Edd’s world spinning, and goodbye.
I always liked this episode,I liked how Tom used different animators each episodes and Paul’s was the one he liked the most since he animated a few more episodes.
Saloonatics Is one of the Best and My favorite eddisode in all eddsworld, I really love the animation, the characters, the type of colors they use. As an artist and animator I am surprised by how the team in charge of the animation did it, I love it so much.
I have a theory, remember that beggar from the alley in The End?, remember he said "Who needs friends when you have puppet rats" and the tord when he picks up the Giant Robo says "Who needs friends when I got this?",but of course it wasn't going to be that simple, they have the same hair color, and the same red blouse if you see the details of his clothes.but then you will say "oh but in the WTFuture episode Matt said - good thing the red leader had a second time machine" simple, after Tord created the Red army they discovered this and tried to destroy the Red Army, and then After months Tord found his time machine and went back to the past so Edd,Tom and Matt didn't find him and so he hid,if you don't believe it,why would the beggar be hiding in an alley isolated from everyone?
Saloonatics was one of my favorite's from Eddsworld and still is. I don't understand why people hated it so much. It didn't bother me as much since it looked like a cartoon, and I was so used to it. To this day, I still go back to watch the episode since it was so bright and colorful. The fps didn't bother me either since I have watched a majority of cartoons that operated at around the same fps as the saloonatics episode. It's not something we're used to, but hey, at least we got an episode instead of getting none.
It was a good change of pace, saloonatics is one of my favorite eddisodes, also idk why some of the fandom doesnt like legacy? Some of the best episodes were from that era and its how i found the show!
I have to say, besides my general enjoyment of the art style (I animate with the same FPS so what you’re saying checks out) I feel the writing gets overlooked. Like it’s seriously one of the funniest EW episodes I think. The fact that the nails get stolen because they weren’t nailed to the floor is one of my favorite jokes in the series honestly.
Saloonatics is one of my favorite Eddsworld episode, coming in 2nd place to PowerEdd. It has a unique art style, and it fits the characters so well. Surprisingly, the noses made me like this episode the most.
I'm glad I found Eddsworld in 2016, bc I got to enjoy both eras at the same time. I have no hate for the newer episodes whatsoever. And the community was just as strong in 2016 bc the finale had already happened.
Saloonatics is one of my favorite Eddisodes of the Legacy era. Heck, I think I like it more than Fun Dead because of how charming the story and the art direction was, but hey, every Legacy era Eddisode has its moments of glory.
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO AGREES WITH ME. So many people like to say the animation sucks because of the framerate or something??? But first of all, I never notice it, second of all it actually HELPS with the wild west theming. Not to mention the animation is expressive and beautiful. What people don't undersrand is animation is hard. especially when done frame by frame, which is what is done in saloonatics.
I didn't even knew that ppl hated the episode because how animated this was, when it came out the only thing is could think of is how interesting and remarkable the animation was!
I love saloonatics it have a unique design that other eddisodes don't have and the personalitys each character have is just so good it's my second favorite eddisode and probably never gonna change
I see what ya did there! In the part where The Tomee Bear explains why many people complained of Tom’s control of the show, he says this while a scene in the new episode “The Beaster Bunny” While Matt is blatantly referring to the Legacy Era, if you don’t know what I mean, here’s a play-by-play After Edd says “im gonna miss Tom’s car” Matt says “I won’t! It was bumpy” (referring to how hard the show was to control after Edd died) “We were always late,” (referencing how episodes were always late and never on time, “and the running costs were outrageous!” (Referring to how the many animators were good, but expensive, such as Paul Ter Voorde,)
this is my favorite eddisode ngl, the style of the animation is different, the color palette, and the shades. the ending is unexpected atleast. i dont know how people were upset by this.
i remember when i first found eddsworld, i was confused as to why this one looked so different, but i just figured "its about cowboys, i guess thats why" i had no idea
I can agree here, the animation here is absolutely amazing and honestly I really like this artstyle. Saloonatics is personally my Favorite episode with The End parts 1 and 2 trailing just behind on my list. This is an amazing episode even if some of the animations feel slightly slower.
I LOVED Saloonatics when it first came out, and I still do. Funnily enough, my favorite part about it was the animation. I didn’t understand why, but I think I get it with this analysis.
Strangely, Saloonatics was my first exposure to Eddsworld. I discovered the whole thing multiple years after "The End" when their was next to no activity from the channel. But, I liked the episode enough to check out the rest of the channel. And.... then I ended up watching every video lol.
I loved Saloonics for its unique style, and the framerate actually sorta added to that by making it seem more cartoony, which worked well with how vivid and vibrant the art style was. Didn’t know that some people actually hated the episode’s framerate and all.
I have a good little thing I noticed in Ellsworld, So you know how Tom said he shot a harpoon at a communist in the ellsworld episode, If you wanna know when he said that its in the time he talks to tamara in the bar, and I did some research and the episode "Mirror Mirror" was made before "The End" episode so eddsworld secretly brung up the unreleased episode.
you know the grandma that appears in wtfuture and the end pt 2. well in the credits apparently her name is grandmado. not only does eduardo know her, SHES RELATED TO HIM!
The one thing that ticks me off about the animation is small details, like when Edd drinks the cola, the liquid doesn’t decrease, his throat doesn’t move. I honestly thought my TH-cam froze when I saw that.
The eddisode Saloonatics could also serve as a fundamental lesson for animators in terms of understanding and favoring your key frames whenever your characters are doing certain actions.
I think back then people were so use to smooth animation in the west that when saloonatics came out I looked jarring. Now with films like into the spider-verse and puss in boots the last wish (albeit both of them being 3D) Choppy animation is praised! So really in my opinion timing is what went wrong.
I usually animate at 6-8 fps myself! Back when I watched Eddsworld, Saloonatics was my absolute favorite. The designs are so cute and I adore the art + animation style! I may not be in the fandom anymore, but I can confidently say that this episode is a goodie.
I am not really an animator, if you dislike this animation style its ok, but calling it ''bad'' with no explanation is ridiculously wrong. There are other shows like paper puppets take 2 for example that use this animation style (Im not really in the OSC though), while not as smooth, its still flows fluidly without it looking odd or weird imo.
The only thing that I was surprised at when this episode came out was that alot of characters had noses lmao I didn't mind it but it was very new when i saw it
The first eddsworld episode I watched was(ironically) the end, and I haven't watched a non-legacy episode until 1-2 months ago, so I never saw much of a dislikable difference. and I think the character designs in Saloonatics is honestly the best out of the entire show.
Oh boy I loved this eddisode. Ngl it was the one, if fnf didn't really introduce it to me after a while after I knew what it was, I watched that made me love this series.
different animators throughout eddsworld legacy era. they were probably short on ideas, so they needed some other animators at this point especially since Edd isn't here anymore to animate. Edd will always be missed and even though he isn't here, he is always alive in our hearts. Rest in peace Edd Gould.
After watching tord is a clone video I just realized that I can make some eddsworld theories for your Theory series 1. Matt is also clone Theory What if Matt could also be a clone? Okay I know that i'm just ruining some characters saying that the protagonist is either a clone or something like that but you know let's dive into this Theory. In the episode Spares one of the matt clones survived during the clone war and that the crew couldn't Tell which one was the right one they just took him to their house and so that the clone completly vanished with not even any cameo appearence in the late episodes this could leave questions on what happened to the matt clone and yet this could also mean that matt could also be a clone. Oooh and how? Well look at legacy matt (and the beyond one aswell) he's even more stupid than he was in the classic era so that could mean that the real matt either got mistaken for the clone one and then possibly got dumped in a trash can (like Tom) and the legacy matt is actually the clone As for the beyond one Well that could be the real matt because he looks more similar to the classic one which means matt could have killed the clone in fan service 2 or any beyond episode. Anyways let's just say that the matt we see from the end of Spares to the end part 2 is actually a clone from Spares that basically become similar to the real matt Edit: sometime I Will do another Theory :)
I personally love Saloonatics because of the parallel story and the appropriately different art style. It's a story in the Eddsworld world. Plus it's just funny.
While i wouldn't have it over the normal artstyle, I do very much appreciate what saloonatics brings to the table and think it stands out in a very unique and interesting way. It makes the episode more memorable and distinct
My problem was never “the frame rate” it was the lack of in-between frames. You can get away with not doing them for a gag or two but I’d say saloonatics did this way too much to the point it looked unfinished. I wish this video addressed the lack of in-between frames since that was always my complaint with the animation of saloonatics. I always liked the art style but animation and art style are not the same thing.
I was kinda shocked to find out people didn’t like this one. The art style is different, but I actually kind of like it. It fits the idea of “idealistic old west story”. The story, while not my favorite, is still good and there’s a lot of funny jokes in it.
