I watched the entire series back in like 2016 and thought it was pretty decent back then, seeing this made me realise how much of a fucking psycho she was. She warms up a bit more in the last season and considering she ends up in his world she probably would change a bit.

I remember watching this and I hated Louis'.
She is too hot headed and abuses Saito too much. In the beginning, she was literally whipping him when he didn't do what she wanted. Then she got angry when got close to the maid girl (which she has no reason to because she belittles him for being a familiar, not a love interest). I wanted Saito with the maid girl, she was very kind to him.
I hated season 2, they turned Saito into a guy who keeps lusting over pretty girls -which he never really did in season 1. The Louis keeps abusing him and exploding him for showing attraction to someone else -again, she has no reason to. Then they turned the maid girl into someone more lustful to Saito -which is another complete character change which made me upset.
In the last season, it was just confusing that Saito was also another familiar to a fairy; Louis and Saito seem closer but she still keeps getting angry at him over everything he does. They end up married (which isn't surprising) and able to travel to Saitos world.
Overall, it made me just hate those anime girls who are okay with abusing the person they supposedly love. If it was the other way around, this anime wouldn't of been made.
End season he was reincarnation of 2 wizards. Hence the elf girl had some influence over him as well as Louis but he used too much magic so in the end he lost one of his reincarnation runes/symbols and was left as Louis's familiar only.
But yeah Louis was a horrible match for him imo. I think Tsundere is the word for girls who abuse guys they like. Deny it but deep down do like em.
The entire fairy war was imo the ball dropped hard. They had Saito in captivity then somehow just let him go.
Maid girl was underrated and sadly pushed aside as just another clingy love interest. Same as the dark skinned wizard girl but she 180'd and helped the former soldier turned teacher faking his death and protecting him from the girl who wanted to kill him for what he did to her village (even though he saved her and changed after that incident).
I blame or think rather the series was influenced by the death of the OG writer hence the ending was both rushed and left incomplete and inconsitencies.

Good lord, I remember this one despite only watching parts of it. Louise still stuck out to me as one of the worst tsunderes I've ever seen.
Odd how this and Toradora same author. Only Taiga learned and matured while Louis remained sorta bratty and bad.
In the end Taiga got a bit better vs starting out.

Wow how the times have changed. Louise and Saito’s relationship is very abusive. Literally anyone (cough Siesta cough) is better than her. Worse is that he marries her. Hell nah.
Also, I don’t know if that ring subplot ever got resolved. It seemed weird to me that the one girl had the ring and just failed to give it back. It’s like the author was like, “Hmm I need a reason to keep the story going, ah let’s have the ring never get back to the water spirit”.

Actually the anime is very different from light novel of this series, In the light novel Saito returns the ring back to the water spirit.
Yeah like that seemed so pointless, at least complete the promise to a literal spirit which you took a valuable item from. It could've also been used to take help from the spirit later in the anime. It seemed like the spirit stopped existing and totally forgot that someone was supposed to give it its valuable lost item.
Imagine how an anime where the man summon a girl beats her till she passes out and depraves her of food and then treats her like a dog to make her fall inlove with him and if she looks at another guy more beatings. Odd how one side is suppose to be a commidy and the other is just looked at plain old crule

yeah I never liked it. He kept coming back to her out of genuine worry for her tender side, all their friends and knowing that they would all die without him, meanwhile she treats him like shit until the point where I stopped reading it. (When the author died, leaving a cliff hanger, the series was finished though! 22 books!)
The author's death made me not want to continue to read the story and so did the death of the teacher, it really put me down, it wasn't mentioned here but together with Saito he was slowly learning science and recreating gunpowder etc. He wasn't just interested in seeing Saito's world he was a really great guy who had been forced to do bad things.... I wish the author had just magically crippled him or similar that kept him around... the cliff hanger's circumstance also put me off of the series, so I didn't continue it afterwards.

I will admit, I have skipped many that this guy has covered, but there are some some amazing ones. Currently finishing up assassination classroom, and man, has it been a ride. Still have many from this channel to watch, but it's given me something to clear away my depressive side.

It has it moment, plus there is like 3 seasons so that’s a plus.
The first real Isekai I ever discovered. As dysfunctional as Saito and Louise can be, they will always have a soft spot in my heart. Plus it's one of the only Isekai animes I've seen to at least have a conclusion, rushed as it was at least it had one. It's got it's good moments and weaker ones. The English Dub for Season 1 is serviceable, but Saito VA is very jarring. Louise is fine as are the other characters.
Every once in a while. I like to rewatch this one along with Toradora. Nostalgia is great.

Tbh ending was weak. I blame it mostly because the main creator/writer died. So there were sadly no continuations as its considered taboo/bad luck in some asian cultures to continue/finish a deceased person's work.

It's a shame only the first series of the whole anime was dubbed, but Rie Kugumiya as Lousie in the sub is one of her most iconic roles that make her the queen of tsundere.

A big plus of this Anime is that it is has an close ending, not many have an full adaptation. the only other one full adapted that I can think about is Shakugan no Shana.

It's always weird to find a show that people enjoy more for the fan fiction than the show itself
because Familiar of Zero is imo the peak of missed opportunities. so many chances for good character development, thrown down the drain. Louise wouldn't be nearly as grating for people if she actually grew as a person, but she doesn't. hence why many of its fanfics tend to have the familiar she summons teach her a quite a few lessons in not being a total bitch.

It's just a perfect environment for crossovers, like, just what if someone else got summoned instead.
I remember reading a comedy fic that instead had Louise get transported to the world of Magicka (the computer game) and they flipped the script with everyone complimenting her on her great skill in magic, because explosions were a goal instead of a mistake. To me the biggest shocker was the fact that the dragon was an A6M5 zero. Really cool!!
Jean Colbert is one of my favorite characters of this show. Has a good redemption arc, and was a bad ass.
I remember when I watched this anime so long ago, back then and even to this day I never could fully like Louis. She had her moments that really made me smile but most of the time I couldn't get over the fact that she was a bipolar, assumptious, and prideful hot head with anger issues. Rest in Piece to the author but my god, I still wonder if he was just a massive M for creating a character like her or why he would create such a toxic and almost impossible to like character. At it's core, this is a great anime and I actually like Saito's character quite a bit (minus some of his dumber choice's). Honestly, I'd re-watch it if it weren't for its greatest flaw which is Louis.

I read the LN until it ended in vol 22.
Every characters have personality and goals, even Saito isn't bland. And Louise are extremely possessive and abusive, but she's loves Saito so much (to the point of committing suicide, when she thought Saito was dead).

Louise is actually a yandere, but her extremely pride turns her into a violent tsundere.
Why?
Well, she has no "talent" for magic (normal magic).
To the point she's being bullied by her classmates, disregarded by her parents, and is considered as a failure in her family history.
She has nothing in her, except for being born as an aristocrat. That's why she's so stubborn and always force herself to fulfill her "duties" to the kingdom.
Well, these all changed by Saito. At first, she disregarded him as a pet, but it all changed when Saito saved her from Fouquet's Golem.
She start to realize that whenever she messed up pretty badly, Saito will always there for her.
With Saito as a pillar, she then started to have friends, started to discover her true talents, and started to fall in love.
But there's a problem, Saito have lots of girls approaching him day by day and he's okay with that.
So, as a girl that only has one boy as her support of being, she then try to utilize all method she can think off to make her boy stays with her (Yandere). Paired with her aristocrat upbringing and being bullied for a long time, you get a very prideful girl (Tsundere).
i think people underestimate how strong saito is mentally seeing as how he remained sane even after the events of the entire 4 seasons.
This is the best isekai anime I ever watched it had a good ending where he got back in his world with Louise and they are married

Feel kind of sad when I realize the writer is already passed away for nearly a decade ago now. Surprisingly it manage to grow in me faster than some newer anime.

Oh man, Familiar of Zero! The anime that practically gave the Crossover Fanfiction community a shot of adrenaline and some Chinese Nitrous. And of course in most of the fictions, the person who ended up getting summoned took none of Louise's shit. (More than a few outright killed her, usually right after the summoning).

It's been nearly 10 years since I was last on a fan fiction website. Just look up crossovers where the summoned protag is someone of a pretty nasty temperament.
One that comes to mind pretty easily though was a FoZ x PROTOTYPE. Right after the summoning happened, Louise runs into the dust cloud and gets absorbed by Alex Mercer immediately, effectively killing her.

I asked because most of the FoZ x (insert franchise) crossovers I've read are ones where the characters replacing Saito did not in fact turn on Louise and for the most part proved themselves incredibly useful.
the exception being one where a character summoned from DnD went on a rampage thinking he had been summoned by an organization enslaving children and was then summarily knocked unconscious, stripped of his weapons, and chained up in the infirmary.
Louise didn't exactly have much of an improvement in fortunes from that point forward.

I liked this anime's premise, but boy the author did a horrible job of convincing the reader/viewer that Louis and Saito should be together. Louis' temper never abated, despite the fact that they kept doing story beats for them to get closer and closer. And it seemed that, to justify this, their solution was to make Saito hornier and hornier (as if that would mean he would deserve her abuse). Their relationship was extremely toxic. I get that he has to be with the main female lead and that tsunderes are just the default personality for these girls, but they could have at least toned it down. The way she violently abused him was just over the top. Sure, have her get angry, storm off, shout, maybe the occasional slap, but whipping and blowing him up constantly... just over the top. And then it was just like they were mocking us by having literally every other female love interest he encounters be nice to him and have a significantly better personality. It was like "Yeah, we could have Saito end up with one of these girls, but he's going to choose the abusive one"
This is an old manga and is made with the niche preferences of the author I'm assuming.

I remember watching this anime in middle school, chilling in my loft with a bag of Takis and a bottle of Sprite. I ship out to basic in 3 days, God how time passes.
They did a good job of maturing louis in the end. Honestly i can even get past the toxicity since it's the life she knew and was a MAJOR flaw in her character. It just took a little too.long imo
Familiar of Zero/Zero no Tsukaima is one of those anime/manga/whatever in which the fans want a lead character to go away or die. Just about everyone who sees/reads it hates Louise and fanfiction almost as a rule has Saito dumping Louise promptly as the trashy, horrible excuse for a person that she is.
And I agree with them 100%. Ah, finally, a fandom doesn’t support toxic relationships. Thank god.

I really love these recaps because it's such a great source for anime that I haven't seen. Though I do remember watching this one many years ago. Maybe like 2008 or so. The plane and the sword is what made me remember. And a reminder of why I hated Louis and the trope that this anime brought. To me this was a 3.5 out of 5. I never did watch the 2nd season though.
I loved it
