    WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
    The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
    The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
    We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

    The way Tracy handles fantasy terminology like 'metaphysics', 'supernatural', 'spirit', 'soul' and also 'nothingness' is extremely valuable. It really made me reconsider my own use of these terms. I wish she was still hosting the show. I really miss her contribution. The same is true for Jen.

      @THE PEOPLE SING just wow. I am an atheist working my dream job of studying amazing instances of evolution and the structure and function of various proteins. One of my hobbies is astronomy and because I get paid well above minimum wage, I was able to buy a rather sweet telescope. I use this at a variety of outreach programs where I volunteer my time so people are able to view the wonders of the universe with their own eyes. My son, another atheist, is studying alternative energy engineering. He loves his program and will probably earn a decent wage while having the satisfaction of doing something that will benefit society. My atheist friends are too numerous to mention but here are some of their professions; meteorologist, filmmaker, artist, neurobiologist, physician, bus driver, dietitian, nurse, psychologist, engineer, lawyer, chef and programmer, to name a few. My atheist husband is in medical research and, you guessed it, he loves his job. Deepak is a charlatan who spouts nonsense. Undergraduate courses in physics and quantum mechanics have given me enough of a vocabulary and understanding of the words he uses to know that the way he uses them is completely nonsensical. It is Deepak who is telling people how to live and what he is in reality is a snake oil salesman. He has gone from providing drugs with some potential of treating illness to quack treatments that rely on testimonials (the weakest evidence going) and the placebo effect.

      Meanwhile, the two old ladies in the video dont even know one of the foundations of philosophy and cant figure out what it means. Freshman philosophy teaches people about metaphysics and by ninth grade you should be able to break a word down into prefix and suffix. And by third grade you should be exposed to the words spirit and soul and get a sense of what those words mean, but two well over fifty year old ladies dont have a sense of what any of these words mean, and those are your best representatives? Yeah sorry no one has to worry about atheists "breeding" because atheism is a movement bought and paid for by the elites and it will always parrot the beliefs of those elite. Like save the earth too many people mutilate your sexual organs or birth control and sexual revolution. Your all being played. Marx was a plant einstein an actor early french philosophers were paid to start a revolution. It's all documented quite well, but you dont want to think that perhaps The One who does offer freedom is The One who died so you can live.

      Such ignorance and arrogance is so pathetic. Everything that explains the physical realm is metaphysical - the immaterial laws of science and the LANGUAGE of abstract mathematics that define those laws. Where did they come from -your brain chemistry or from an ultimate immaterial mind?
      Everything of value and meaning that defines human nature is metaphysical and transcendent like: love, joy, hope, truth, wisdom, happiness, fulfillment, charity, compassion and destiny.
      Everything that is material is little more than of fleeting value, meaning or satisfaction like ego, self image, wealth, career, gambling, sport, drug use, sexual pursuits, etc etc Read what Sam Harris or Bertrand Russell says about the unyielding despair of being no more than an unlikely collocation of atoms.

      That’s grounds for psychiatric treatment right there.
      Being an atheist doesn’t mean one is sure about every theological question, have answers to the way the world was created, or how evolution works. It just means that the assertion that gods exist has left one unconvinced.

    • @zachrichardson5581
      @zachrichardson5581 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@b.g.5869 it's not a theistic term but they DEFINITELY fall back on it as a catch all justification for their ideas. It's purposefully presented as a "beyond our comprehension" because that removes any responsibility to provide actual evidence or consistent reasoning. They can just inject that disclaimer of unfalsifiable nonsense into the conversation and then confidently make extravagant claims.

    • @b.g.5869
      @b.g.5869 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@zachrichardson5581 I don't know who "they" are. Theists in general don't have any more of a particular inclination towards the term "metaphysics" than atheists.
      All informed atheists and theists understand that there are metaphysical concepts and the term doesn't privilege a theistic worldview.
      It's just a term used in philosophy to refer to questions about the nature of reality. The whole purpose of the prefix "meta" is to make it clear that it pertains to anything and everything that exists and not necessarily just the physical.
      This doesn't mean it presupposes the existence of some supernatural immaterial realm but that it includes consideration of things usually not thought of as physical such as abstract concepts.
      In casual usage, it's sometimes used disparagingly when someone wants to suggest an argument either relies too upon or suggests things beyond the scope of scientific scrutiny.
      A common criticism of the many worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics for example is that it has "too much metaphysical baggage".
      In any event, I wouldn't draw as any sweeping conclusions about what people in general or theists in particular think of the term "metaphysics" from what the caller said. He's clearly an ignoramus that doesn't understand what "metaphysical" means and seems to equate it with the supernatural or non-physical; metaphysics doesn't exclude or deny the physical, it simply doesn't limit its scope of inquiry to things typically regarded as strictly physical.

    If I amp holding a block of granite in my hand, 90% of the very solid granite is NOTHING. There is more nothing in that granite than there is something. If you compress all that nothing out of the granite, it takes tremendous force. Then to compress if further, actually compacting the Sub-Atomic Particles, takes even more force. When you compress the entire universe into a very compact form, that represents tremendous kinetic energy. The Singularity could only contain that energy for just so long, but for the force holding it together became less than the force of the energy wanting to be released. Release of the pent up energy was inevitable, and the release of that energy was the beginning of the expansion of the universe.

    Most theoretical physicists don't think that the universe had an absolute beginning. They sound like they may because they talk about what they know and we don't know what was before or outside the BB. We think in terms of events which are packets of time but that doesn't mean that the sum of all events is an event. The idea of an absolute beginning is a problem of how our minds work.
