This vlog hails all the way from beautiful Beulah, North Dakota where the crew and I followed along with North American Coal to visit 3 coal mines in 3 days.
First Site: “Coyote Creek” Mine - We visited the “Wile E. Coyote” dragline to see how it gets moved from point A to point B across the mine.
NOTE: It’s powered by a massive extension cable that is carried by a farming tractor so it doesn’t get run over when the dragline is being moved.
Second Site: The “Freedom” Mine - A very large mine that produces coal for a power plant, a gasification plant, and then another power plant down the road. (It’s been there since the ’70s..) This is a massive operation equipped with 123-yard dragline buckets that roll 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with three people running each dragline.
They also run two types of Kress Coal Haulers (the 200-ton and 300-ton). The craziest part is that a lot of these machines have more than 100,000 hours on them!
Third Site: The “Falkirk” Mine - About an hour north of Bismarck that feeds a power plant right next door that’s all lignite coal. (it’s also been around since the ’70s…) The coolest part was the indoor building where they park all of their haul trucks (789’s and 793’s) The facility is about the size of a football field, and the trucks are all loaded by shovels out.
They then take the coal out of the pit and drive it all the way down the haul road and dump everything into a hopper, which is then crushed to make the coal a little more consistent. Then it’s thrown into a silo that feeds the power plant the coal. This is turned into energy for 750,000 houses and over 1 million people!
    To wrap it all up…
The Coal Mining Process (Explained): It comes in segments. At the front, you have scrapers, dozers, and a PC2000 with trucks taking the topsoil and subsoil off and moving it to where the reclamation is at.
Next, the first little bit of overburden is stripped off to prepare for the dragline.
Then, the dragline comes through and exposes the coal, flops the material onto where they’ve already mined it, then the coal is moved to the power plant where it’s turned into electricity!

I am a Beulah native born and raised and was raised with parents both working in the coal industry. I work at the power plant that is fed by the mine and my father works as an operator at Coyote Creek mine. I wish more people would come and experience our area and what it has to offer. Our power plants keep your phone charged, lights on, and heat or AC running. Aside from nearly 70% of Beulah being employed at one of the local mines or plants and seeing them from town, you'd never know they exist. BTW, the Country Kettle is slept on by most tourists but its definitely worth a stop.

I know it’s being heavily regulated. In my opinion it needs to have less regulation. Power is to important and it’s not worth making these companies jump through hoops in order to do it.
With that said I know they have to take off the top soil and then they mine the coal with the drag line. Then it is loaded on trains and hauled to the power plants.

My brain has such a hard time grasping the size of these machines. Its one of those things I know video just doesn't do it justice. Around 2:43 I know those dump trucks are MASSIVE machines. and its so hard to understand until you see its got a ladder on it and a walkway meaning the driver is like 12 feet off the ground or something. Then you see the Pc2000 and trying to grasp its size is even harder. Then you see the drag line and I mentally can't grasp the size because I have never seen one in person.

It amazes me the amount of great material that gets skipped right over. Your channel has so much potential but you skip over so much great material to film and talk about. I feel like I am missing out on so much knowledge that gets skipped over in every video you do. I know you can't cover everything but there is definitely some that you can cover more of

We're working on it. The purpose of most of these visits up until now weren't for video. The video was a bonus, but now we're getting more focused. You can't just go nuts on many of these sites too. It takes a bit of time to film places that have never been filmed before

@@AaronWitt you're on par with Mike Rowe and other people on Discovery channel type things like that very direct very informative keep it serious to the point touching base on things that people that don't know can get informed on quickly that's amazing showing that huge channel of coal and the way that you described it I can mentally understand scraping off so many layers to that solid black coal I know they did something similar with the rivers to get gold

Hello, my brother, the best TH-camr from America, I love Liebherr big excavators the most in this world, I mean, no one in this world can be as obsessed with Liebherr patients as I am. I wish I could tell you about big Liebherr excavators. Why don't you consider making more long-term videos and recordings? I wish Liebherr 9800. It would be better if you tried to shoot more long-term action movies with 996 excavators and record them in coal mines.

Instead of condensing 3 mines into 10 minutes, you should do a 10 minute video of each mine.

Well done to the coal mining companies that do what they do. Their maintenance program is especially commendable and necessary.
Sad to say, America cannot manufacture these giant draglines any longer and many of the mining machines if our lives depended on it. Deindustrialization carries a terrifying price and we'd have to import a giant dragline if we needed a new one. Probably from China like everything else. Gotta get manufacturing costs down so the Top 1% can indulge themselves and not suffer one shekel less.

Are the foundations cracking from improper building standards or from setting land.
Here in the midwest we have the issue of sandy soil, if you dont build the foundation well enough or if you rush a build without time to settle your foundation will crack.
