My father worked for the same company (factory worker, textile industry) for basically 39 years, never missed a single day outside of very rare medical-related appointments every now and then (but he would often at least work half his day anyways even after going to the doctor). To celebrate his 30th year of service, the company bought him a watch.

    • @NextNate03

But will he be able to afford his yearly property taxes off of a Burger King salary?? The system is designed so that low income peoples can’t own any property and are therefore subservient to rental property.

Based on the size of the house, and it being in Nevada, it's likely far less than $450,000. And considering his story he'll probably get offered a lot of higher paying jobs

It looks like the home is somewhat modest so I’m guessing they saved the rest of the money for taxes as well as retirement. They seem like good people. I have known people that have gained similar windfalls and had it all blown in a couple of years.

Im extremely happy for him with that being said after 27 years of working for that company he should had been able to buy that house and still have 400 k in a ira or 401K tbh he should have had his own franchise it just shows these company's expect your loyalty but then don't give none in return

Happy to hear so many people showing their support for him, but saddened by BK’s lackluster celebration of his 27 years of service. I really hope he enjoys his new home but like you mentioned, hope he stashed some money into a retirement account/high yield savings account. He deserves to retire comfortably after raising his daughters and enjoy a happy retirement from BK.

As wonderful as this is, someone who works 27 years without missing a day should be able to afford a house. The system is broken since hard-working, people can't earn enough to get into the housing market. Corporations make billions on the back of people like Kevin. Pay a living wage. ✌

I was thinking the same. I can’t believe more people aren’t commenting about this. They want us to see the happy part at the end and forget about the conditions of late stage capitalism and wage stagnation that caused this man to not be able to already afford a house in the first place.
