Are you really that Ssethzeetechtak guy that every looney on various youtube comments have been claiming, or is just another youtube meme, like anything else from these days.
I remember watching this many years ago playing half life, and watching a half life horror mod video just now reminded me of this exact video that I somehow managed to find.
"Keep in mind how brutal this is for the 90s, a dead child with blood pouring out of his head" this is too brutal even in 2021, you can't kill kids in most games where players are given the free pass to murder willy nilly
I heard that the reason there weren't any children in Half Life 2 was because of laws against being able to point guns at children in games and that's why they had the plot point about people not being able to reproduce under Combine rule.
i bought this game when i was 14. my best friend and i were obsessed with it. it was like a super difficult creepy puzzle. there were cheat codes so u could see the end cut scenes play out. i bought it because at the time i heard parents were super pissed off about it and trying to get it banned. good times.
I was the same age and never heard of it, sometime in the early 2000s. My mom actually suggested I get it at a computer convention we were at. Unfortunately, (or thankfully considering how disturbed I would have been) it didn't work on Windows XP
Old point and click games are really interesting when you look at them with today's standards. But even with that in mind this was freakier than anything I could have imagined. I'm really curios to see how this all ends.
I absolutely love this game. It's got David Lynch vibes all over it. And it's crazy how this video has only 25,000 views. More people need to watch this and play the game.
I learned of this insanity from Joel's streams of it. One of his first responses was to say "Fuck" to his mom and found out that she'll take you up on the offer.
Not going to lie, im glad that baby cutscene was made back in the day when it looked so obviously fake... I agree seriously no reason at all for that kind of scene in this game out of nowhere like that
There's actually a whole NPC of dialog and multiple cutscenes prior that were completely missed in this review that gave context to that scene. Kinda bogus that it still plays for anyone who didn't do any of the other stuff so it just makes no sense to most people.
Oh, hey David Lynch made a video game. EDIT: Aside from the baby eyeball bit - which just grossed me out - I didn't get a weird vibe from this game. I thought it was fucking hilarious. I mean - this seems like it came out around the time of Twin Peaks or just David Lynch's good works in general and it seems to be biting that style pretty hard. It doesn't strike in that same "WTF!" sense that Limbo of the Lost gives me - where I have nothing but nagging meta questions about who the hell would make such a thing and who would help them. This seems like a rational, if eccentric, human being made this.
One thing I give credit to this game is one of the most awful parts. The diner su!cide. When Stephanie actually emphasizes how Edna must have been in such a deep despair after losing everything to take her own life plus her child, that's not something anyone considers. I'm also from the generation that was dealing with the Andrea Yates case where so many people were calling her a monster because she killed her kids without realizing she was so mentally ill that it wasn't avoidable. Stephanie humanizing her is something that should be looked at more and it's how we should treat others when stuff like this happens.
Reminds me of a combination of Return to Zork and Phantasmagoria... have you played either of those? I kind of wish they'd bring back that art style and real actors.. Nice outro btw :)
There are few games I've played that will show the corpses of children, let alone allow you to actually kill them, (not counting ghost, evil demon kids or w/e) and even though I'd normally consider myself desensitized to this kind of thing, it is something you definitely remember From Bioshock's little sisters, to Masochisia's....everything, the approach and tone to include child murder in the first place always makes you wonder if being able to kill children was something even worth including, and whether the plot and themes of the game justified it not For this game, it's just shock value, and I'm not just talking about the teacher bludgeoning a kid to death, but the fact it's entirely possible for you to just straight up murder Karin at the diner if you have a weapon and click on her. Was it necessary?? In all honesty, I don't know.
That 6 second loop of birds chirping and music whenever Steve and Stephanie talk is driving me mad. Good golly, just stop that! Not towards you of course. XD
What were the developers thinking when they created this game? It's like if they were the stupid characters from "Don't hug me I'm scare" when they went apeshit and started to make all sorts creepy crap, lol as time passes on this game seems to get creepier.
This game is very hard. Had to use a walkthrough halfway through, the lodge levels are absolutely brutal. In the room with the guy that will remove the acid from your clothes, there is a toga. Kill the guy and take his shotgun. You will need that gun. Next hang the toga on the secong peg from the left and enter hidden room. Game is impossible to beat without the scythe and extra shotgun shells you'll find inside.
I remember that part, oh my God the wierd disgusting sounds you hear in that part of the lodge and the music still haunts me... the chess master was a bastard. I remember him and the killer chest pieces lmao.
I dont know how many time I got my brains blown out by the missile silo guard with no legs for getting too close to the gates or saying the wrong thing.
I'm gonna be honest, I don't really like Harvester. I mean it's fascinating and fun to watch people play and see reactions, it's entertaining. But I don't like the meta commentary it's making. It feels confused to me. Like, were the game devs the kind of people who thought violence in media makes someone violent? Okay, if that's so then by making this game they're just contributing to the problem. And if it's the opposite, if it's meant to be a message that violence in media doesn't make someone violent... then the true ending to the game, and indeed a lot of the game overall, goes against that entirely, with Steve embracing becoming a sociopathic murder-cannibal. I think I'd like it a lot more if it dropped the pretense about having something to say and just *was.*
@@subtledemisefox Right, sure, and it's funny to meme that bit from the final cutscene, sure. But the fact that violent media DID make him into a serial killer and cannibal shows that actually, it's not bullshit.
@@Shenaldrac The point is you can decide to marry Stephanie and not be a serial killer, and the two guys will be disappointed. Even though you did horrible things in the video game Steve preferred to move on. The other ending is meant to be like that. The two guys are making virtual reality violent on purpose so the people playing become violent. Steve knows this when his mom says stop playing that because it makes serial killers. He just says it’s bullshit even though he murdered that woman. That’s also why he laughed at road runner, before video games it was movies and TV making you violent. The game is meant to be so fucked up as a middle finger to everyone who thinks you’ll become violent from it.
