So one thing on IK Gujral. When his government fell, he wanted to contest from Amritsar. The alkali dal agreed but put a condition that he should forgive a debt of approx ten thousand crores of Punjab government. (Punjab was a bankrupt state then also...) and he agreed. . This was a huge amount then. I am not sure if he was an actual member of alkali dal then. I think he contested as an independent. Gujral agreed to this. So he actually bought an MP seat for 10000 crores of taxpayer money.. 😀

Not exactly, because in cartelization companies keep the rates almost same, jio is still 20% cheaper than airtel/vodafone, also it was done because the current rates were not sustainable for any telecom company, jio achieved what it wanted to achieve, that is biggest user base, and has no reason now to keep the prices artificially low

Actually, the catchy slogan- "Prime Minister on daily wages" was coined by the ever jovial MP Shri Piloo Mody of Janta Dal(Earlier, he was in Swatantra party) to address late Charan Singh. Charan Singh Ji is the only P.M. , who did not face the Parliament even for a day as the day he was sworn in, the Parliament was prorogued and the day Parliament was opened, he had to face the "Confidence Motion". Congress party, which has promised support, started a meeting a day earlier to opening of parliament . The meeting continued through out the night and could not come to a conclusion till the Parliament opened. So Charan Sing Ji resigned immediately after the parliament opened.

We had too many corrupt Prime Ministers who had ruled India. Narasimha Rao was the sole exception. Indira Gandhi at least took the Nation's interest and never compromised on that account. Unfortunately V.P. Singh, Chandrasekhar, Morarji Desai and I.K. Gujral are the worst Prime Ministers of India. V.P. singh nominated Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as the Home Minister under whose watch we saw genocide and exodus of Hindus from Kashmir Valley; Chandrasekhar went ahead and pledged India's gold (47.1 tons) to the IMF and deposited the gold with Bank of England. What happened to the gold? I.K. Gujral and Morarji Desai were instrumental in destroying India's intelligent operatives abroad including their executions. All we have to do is just check the current status of their families. Most of them were corrupt and their families are filthy rich.

You have tried to denigrate former Prime minister VP Singh by mentioning Raid raj.
Not a word on his pobity, integrity and his crusade on corruption which led to ouster of Rajiv.
out of all former PM mentioned, his Government was elected one ,not a propped one created out of normal elections.

Reservation & Mandal is needed only to bring the backward class in to mainstream and thiseffort is required as long as we believe in caste system . What V.P Singh did was historic. Those who talk so much bad about V.P do not have any answers why no political party or suprme court could oppose it. It can go only if our young modern mind instead of denigrating V.P or reservation strive for casteless system in society. They allow all associations to flourish brahmin samajkayastha samaj, agarwal samaj, sindhi samaj , Gujjar samaj, Maheshwari samaj. Stop all that and try to remove caste which has not come from when V.P became PM it's there for last2000 years . On the other hand what he has done and the crriticism and hatred heaped on him are all biggest casteist- not a word why all this dominance of caste and no effort to stop that but ridicule the person who brought greatest transformation in social justice at the cost of his chair. Well V.P was never for chair. He resigned as CM of UP on his own.
He resigned as finance minister & defence minister from Rajiv gandhis cabinet on his own
He is the only leader outside congress who formed Janmorcha and jantadal on his own with public support. It was not a small thing. No other leader has done this at Central level.
Why people trusted him : his clean image, integrity, probity and his fight against crony capitalism. How can you forget.
His stand as PM on Ayodhya
Wait for court verdict or consensus between both communities. This iBJP did not listen then but waited for it till 2019 . Same on mandal. No party agreed then but each one has gone six steps ahead with so much of hypocrisy and no antagonism against them .
If V.P was power hungry and manipulative , he would not have declined PM chair after Congress exit on 1995-96 when every opposition group wanted him back.
V.P also is rare politician who never allowed his sons to join politics or promoted them.

    • @chandra7494
      @chandra7494 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chandrashekhar
Iam surprised when many people praise him and write that as PM he would have been great choice.
Chandrashekhar became PM by ditching the very formation he reluctantly joined Janta dal and alligning with Rajiv Gandhi the very same leader and congress he wanted to defeat six months back.
He was not an active campaigner in 1989 elections where V.P Singh sacrificed his chair as FM and later as defence minister and formed Janmorcha and jantadal. He and his socialist friends who did very little prior to hard fought election , wanted PM chair by hook or crook and opposed the worthy heir VP tooth and nail from first day. The greed and lust for PM chair without any experience of any ministry ( now Rahul is rebuked for that) forced to be part of great destabilization plan Rajiv Gandhi and Swamy planned with the help of corporate friends Ambani who detested VP as he sabotaged their plan of buying Larsen & toubro in peanuts. They took the revenge.
Hence all actions of chandrashekhar was self centred not issue specific as he had no ideals left .His friends were chandraswamy, mamaji narshima rao.
      Narshima rao
Shekhar Gupta has habit of heaping praise on Narsimha rao for liberalisation which was brain wave of Manmohan Singh .
His incompetency as Home minister in 1994 sikh riots immediately after Indira Gandhi assassination. Rajiv had just taken ovver and was under grief . It was time for HM to act & Rao just slept. Not a word against him by media including Shekhar Gupta.
In 1992 during Babri Masjid demolition , when the country was burning and destruction taking place , he just slept over with equally incompetent SB Chavan .The PM did not intervene for seven days post demolition and was soft on BJP leaders. This action of his had huge cost on congress from which it could not recover.
His involvement in St Kitts affair with the help of Chandraswamy where he accused V.P Singh and his son Ajeya to have a hidden account . Eventually it was proved that former PM VP's signature were fabricated and whole drama was at the behest of Rao to denigrate V.P.
His bribery case where Harshad Mehta had accused him of suitcase bribery ..
Lakhu bhai ,shibusoren of Jharkhand Mukti and the money used to save his Government.
His minority government was saved by BJP in parliament no of times that shows his closeness to vajpayee and advani.

The rise of bhindrawala, his relationship with the Congress party, why this "alliance" (for lack of a better word) fell apart, the group's warfare tactics in Punjab, the reason and then the aftermath of blue star and IG's assassination, finally the "cleanup" in Punjab by kps gill and others.
I'd be really interested in learning more about bhindrawalas motivations because in my mind, I can't tell which category he fits in: a right radical or someone like che guevara.

Of all Prime Ministers with short term, worst was V P Singh...
    Reasons as follows.
    1. Wish Rubyeea sayed was never released....
militancy would have died down then and there. 1989...
    2. Mandal commission, we all know, wasn't made applicable because of his love for social justice... had Devi lal not organized the boat club rally.. Mandal commsiion would have stayed in grave.....
    3. When he died, do you remember his date of death...
Fine, if you don't, as no one does....
Moreover you as journalist have covered so many political events...
Imagine when V. P. Singh died, there wasn't one to cover his last rites, and no one remembers who were the 4 people who lifted his dead body....
Life gives you back in one life time. It's never the act, karma judges by intent...
Rajiv Gandhi had rightly said when he implemented Mandal commission recommendations that this man has divided india in a way that even British could not....

Lal Bahadur Shastri, Charan Singh, VP Singh and Chandra Shekhar are dead, but as former prime ministers, they are still alive in Indian history, that is why you are talking about them
Whereas, Dev Gowda is still alive and he makes political news once in a while
But, I have one question, if the present prime minister talked about them and concerned, what he has done to uplift the figures of these men

Those of us who were in or going into college when the Mandal report was implemented will never forget Madhu Trehan's coverage for Newstrack, of the student agitation against the report nor will we forget the image of Rajiv Goswami in flames. BJP did NOT withdraw support to the V.P.Singh govt. Because of the student immolations, they did so when the rath yathra in ayodya was stopped. Chandrashekher.. I don't believe you would have forgotten how he got his supporters to thrash Ram Jethmalani and tear his clothes off outside his house. Some other political giants of that era i can think of are Biju Patnaik and Tau Devi Lal. Imposing characters, both. And wasn't Arun Shorie sacked from the Indian Express around the same time?

Thanks for your response, Sanjay! We mentioned Shastri, but not in detail. One, because his tenure was cut short not by politics, but death and two, he had not set out to be a short-term PM. Plus, as I said, his tenure is relatively well-known. Nanda was only a stop-gap for a couple of very short periods, until the Congress elected a new PM, so not in that category either. - SG

Mr. Gupta most glaring omission about PMs is Moraraji Desai who gave the best administration and controlled prices of essentials. It must b deliberate attempt as media and u also definitely did not like him. I am also apprehensive of u giving credit to the Italian lady for contributing to our country. She ruled by proxy and looted the contry.because of slavish congressmen particularly MMS. Shame on our media brothers

Of course, granted the dynastic politics of the congress is like an octopus tentacles, not willing to let go .... needs to b taken down .... congress needs to throw an indifferent sonia out .... they do not appear to have learnt a lesson from JyotiAS exit at all .... nor are they even acknowledging the severe restlessness of the younger congress leaders .... kamalN's ouster was richly deserved .... though the ousting party is not necessarily a good choice! (If there is ever one)
Having said that, the bjp is seperceding all dynastic norms .... most top échelon is either a gujrati or has been connected to gujrat for a significant amout of time .... gujju biz guys have max support ....
of course, there is a second group: (unfortunately amongst them is JyotiAS and TomVadekan) those who have adopted bjp for a variety of reasons .... and this legion of snollygosters are being used by bjp .... and why not? They are there, aren't they?!
The legion of throttlebottoms at the bjp are also legion
Case of the pot calling the kettle black? .... & perhaps the pot is more inept and blacker as days go by!

It pays to know history. Even older people like me who have lived through these periods tend to forget the actual events. You ought to have spoken about Morarji Desai, though he was not a short term PM. The reason is that this gandhian, pacifist PM is reputed to have leaked India's nuclear plans to Gen Zia Ul Haq in one of this meetings. A grateful Pakistan conferred on him the national award Nishan e Pakistan. Thereafter, India's problems with Pakistan. Rest is recent history.

Hardly less than 1% can say. If I am not wrong. When a person can not remember the name of their family member name, Is it really need to remember and glorify the past.
