Hey Ben - love your videos! I recently joined the Air Force reserves for Cyber Defense operations. I leave in February for basic training, but want to complete my Sec+ certification prior to. With that being said - should I wait for the SYO-701 to come out before studying? Great breakdown of the upcoming CompTIA Security Plus 701 exam, clear and concise! Could you share any tips or resources for preparing specifically for the Security Plus 701 exam?
In terms of resources, I haven’t seen any releases for the 701 as of yet. If you want to get a head start, the 601 study resources should cover a good chunk of what will be found on the 701!
P sure open public ledger is as on 601, probably just called blockchain. Unless those are separate things. But blockchain is generally an open public ledger, so would be interesting if they made a distinction for both
Dear Ben, Thanks for this informative video. I really don't care about the cert. The only thing that I care is the concepts, do you Think the 601 version is the same as 701?
Hey Ben! I wanna start studying for the security plus exam while I have time off in between semesters in my cyber security program. My goal is to get the certification within the next two months. Do you think that I should take the 601 exam or the 701 exam. I’m just stuck on choosing what the better one would be.

Should i wait for 701 or do 601 i have a fair knowledge of entry level cybersecurity and i am preparing for 601 and can u also make video on how did u get your cybersecurity job and how to land in a cybersecurity job!
Hey Ben, I recently got a 701 practice exam on udemy for free with a coupon code I had just started studying for the 601 and I have heard that the 601 may be better since there is more study material out there for it, in your opinion, if you were in my position, would you take the 601 before it expires or begin studying for the 701 since it may be more in tune with the Cyber Security industry right now?
I would prioritize the cert that has the most study material out now that would increase my chances of passing. All of the other subjects can be learned outside of the cert. So id recommend 601
If I take the SYO 601 exam in before it retire July 2024, will my certificate be valid for the up coming 3 more years, or it will expired once that exam is retired. I am almost prepared myself and want give a shot on the SYO 601 before the exam it retires this year.
I will start studying for the 701 then i guess. I started 601 yesterday only to find out theres a new one. Is there any course available for 701 or is it going to be the same?
@dvjiii you are probably better off taking the 601 if you are studying for it right now. Odds are, the 601 will not fully prepare you for the 701. Maybe a good portion of it will but to study for the 601 and pass the 701 you would probably have to be overly prepared for the 601 because any unknown new material, you’ll have to take a guess on the question. Also, it takes a few months for instructors to create a course that fully references 701. One thing to do is pass the 601 while you can and then pay for the Sec+ CE which renews your certificate to the 701.
I don't have so much knowledge about cybersecurity and i would go start now stady to make exam to 601 because i saw your video, but now i discover that will have another one version 701 i should wait to take a course about new version to pass ? Because to apply in 601 is very short time
I need some advice, I have no IT experience and I want to take the 601 before it gets updated fully in july. But should I take the google cybersecurity certificate before security+ or not? I know the google certificate prepares you for security+ but is the time it takes to complete the certificate worth it vs just using your method of studying for the. security+?
Studying for the Sec+ with no prior experience can be a bit overwhelming, you can try studying for it and if it feels overwhelming you can do the Google Cyber to ease you into it
