    Good day hike load out. Good items.
    There is NO guarantee that it will always be just ONE day !

    Pretty much matches what I carry. Other than I keep a spare pair of socks and a small fire kit. Have to take good care of the feet. Don’t want them cold, wet or sore or you’re in misery. Altoids tin fire kit has three or four ways to start a fire if ever needed.

    You’re better prepared for a day hike than I. I should probably watch this video just before my next hike. 👍

    I like the idea of carrying a water bladder even if you don't intentionally plan to use it. If you were to get into a survival mode situation and you find a water source to filter, who knows when you will find another water source further down the road. The bladder can hold a good amount of water that you might need until you get out or find more. Great video and nice gear tips! :)

    I did a month of solo car camping in the Texas Hill Country this past July. Being quarantine and all not to many people were out so I would pack my day bag almost exactly like this. I didn't need base layers but I did pack a towel because most days I would find a river or lake to jump in. If you're going out solo don't forget to text or call someone and let them know you plan on hiking x amount of miles in x amount of time. You twist your ankle 6 or 8 miles from the trailhead and suddenly you're in a bad spot. Better be safe than sorry.

    cool video! now i‘m thinking what did i bring to my last day hike (about 6 miles)… osprey stratos 34 backpack with raincover, a sandwich, 2 snacks, a bottle of water, keys, wallet, phone, a pack of tissues, insulating layer (patagonia nanopuff), rainjacket (black diamond stromline) and the thermarest asspad ;). next time i would also bring my hammock just to relax somewhere in the trees and maybe a different backpack (osprey UL dry stuff pack 20).

    This is exactly what I like to carry! But may I also recommend a fire source? Such as; matches, flint and steel, or even a bic lighter! Thanks for the video, cheers!

    Is this pack now 4 years old? It is on sale and looks great with the diasy chains where I could attach snowshoes and have room for some winter gear on a day hike. Is this pack comfortable? Do you think its worth 108 dollars today for being 4 years old? Thanks!

    What would you carry if you were with your kids? I’m starting one mile hikes with my 4 and 6 yr olds and hope to expand and they grow so advice on that would be helpful

    Fire starter, or do you make a bow drill if you need it? No compass or signaling device?

    Why did the community who commented on this old video hate gear? Like who watches hiking gear vids and complains about such a basic kit as being too much gear??

    • @Hipsael
      @Hipsael ปีที่แล้ว

      Facts, I’m in the south so I don’t need all those layers but for a day hike that base weight isn’t even that killer to be honest

    I have a question.....Why do you carry all this stuff if you are only hiking a couple of miles.

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lee Hart every hike is a little different, and not all of this comes every time. But when hiking in high altitudes especially I like to be as prepared as possible.

    What??... No poncho??... No whistle??... No firesteel or rod?... No paracord or duct tape??... No water bottle? ...Please tell me you had at least a compass and map of the trail....

    • @HikingWithShawn
      @HikingWithShawn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've learned the value of duct tape on the trail. Wonderful for pulling seed ticks from your legs :D

    Hmmmmmm....I thought the Osprey Talon 18 was the "Ultimate Day Hiking Pack" (circa October 2016 TH-cam review)? What happened to suddenly knock you up to a 26L pack??

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Still love that pack a lot! It's amazing and in that liter size I still think it's one of the best. The Deuter is perfect for a larger pack.

    • @mabamabam

      I know right.
      Phone keys wallet and a water bottle. If you really want to make a day of it take a sandwich and some strapping tape.

      jeffreydw1983 hike your own hike. Could I take a bag of peanuts and clif bar and water and be just fine? Sure! I choose to carry a little more for a different experience.

      Backcountry Exposure I’ve got a 20 mile one dayer in Yosemite next week. I’ve got A Dueter Lite 20 with about 13 pounds of gear including water. Better safe than sorry. No rain in the forecast but if I was forced to stay overnight I’d manage.
