People shouldn't blame TIM MILLER for the failure of "Terminator: Dark Fate"
He was the director, not the writer
Killing John Connor was James Cameron's idea
Miller deserves another chance because he still got a lot to offer
He not only gave us DEADPOOL, but also SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, directed by his friend, Jeff Fowler
Also, have anyone seen LOVE, DEATH and ROBOTS?

No it's poison because it has no build up from Jean to Phoenix to Dark Phoenix. It's Jean just turns Dark Phoenix. They need a Saga of at least 3 movies. Jean gets the phoenix powers and uses it for good, Jean becomes corrupted in the 2nd and then the last is boss mode. Dark Phoenix was a remake of the last stand pretty much which was not a good dark phoenix storyline. They ruined Apocalypse as well. Hopefully we get Mr. Sinister and the nasty boys.

I'm also blaming the failure of Fantastic Beasts in the lack of Johnny Depp as Grindelwald. In the first one we got a weirdo villain that looked somewhere between the Mad Hatter and Willy Wonka as the most terrifying Dark Wizard before Voldemort. Then thanks to Amber Turd we got a villain that looked like the branch manager of some office.

Top Gun Maverick is an exceptional case. I think the gap actually helped it. While a pre 1990 sequel to Top Gun probably would have done well, I doubt one between 1996 and 2016 would. In the years since, nostalgia for the 1980s has grown and Tom Cruise has been very successful at putting his PR troubles of the early 2000's behind him and winning back the love and respect of his fans.

What about Superman 4: The Quest for Peace? I hear that was one of the worst box office bombs of the 1980s, partly due to budget cuts and the "ending nuclear war" storyline being Christopher Reeve's idea, nuclear war being something he felt strongly about at that time. But even he later admitted it was a "huge mistake" in his book Still Me.

Evan Almighty works fine as a standalone sequel. I think people at the time (perhaps myself as well, although I was only 15 when Even Almighty came out) were expecting a full-on Bruce Almighty 2 and were disappointed when they didn't get that. But I think as time has gone on Evan Almighty still holds up pretty well - it was just marketed wrong.

Saying that "Basic Instinct 2" was a sequel no one wanted is not entirely accurate. One person wanted it... Sharon Stone. She was promised a sequel after the 1st became a hit, but the producers screwed around too long. Sharon was ready to sue for breach of contract, & the producers decided that making the movie would be less expensive and less of a headache than going to court.

I actually went to see Alice Through the Looking Glass back in 2016, and while it was okay, it IS really forgettable. The only good thing I can say about it was that there was a girl who also watched the movie, but she sat in the same row as me. And for those who are wondering, the theater was empty outside of her and myself.

Some of the movies on your list, I actually watched and enjoyed, so I don't consider them bombs. It's simply due to the fact that most people just didn't appreciate them.
The same can be said by some of the movies that spawned the sequ/sequels. The original ones were lost to begin with.

The only 4 sequels on this list that I actually watched & also liked watching on & off are #20, #18, #12, & #8, aka “Batman & Robin”, “Look Who’s Talking Now”, “Alice Through The Looking Glass”, & “Evan Almighty”. I never really saw any of the other sequels on this list but have heard of some of them in harsh ways more often than not, so there’s barely anything I can say about the sequels that I haven’t watched. #20- I only watched a few times as a kid & liked it a little bit. Can’t believe until years later when I searched its information on the internet that it bombed hard at the box office to the point where it not only took roughly 8 years for its original franchise to get rebooted, but its poor box office reception caused the planned 5th movie to get cancelled. It’s honestly a shame that the original “Batman” franchise stopped after this sequel because I actually liked it. #18- I watched as a kid a few times & it actually made me laugh. #12- I absolutely loved watching this sequel before on & off on both Netflix & Disney+ & thought it was better than the original. The 1 major good thing that comes out of this sequel is that it explains so much about the Red Queen & why she became so evil. #8: I’ve watched this sequel before on & off as a kid at home & once or twice on Peacock. Didn’t know it was a sequel until years later when I looked up its information on the internet. Still wished this sequel got a sequel of its own to show its titular character in a better way.

    couple of things:
18:14 you can say the same thing about the MCU by now.
I actually enjoyed Fantastic Beasts 3, it was cool and mysterious, obviously not perfect but there are rarely movies that are.
I also enjoyed Evan Almighty, it was funny and interesting and maybe not as heartfelt as the first one but still a good movie.
Also Alice through the looking-glass was cool and interesting, although after I read the books recently it didn't make any sense lore-wise and you can definietly see that it wasn't Tim Burton who directed it

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is actually a great sequel overall and the criticism was frankly just BS.
As a humongous fan of the first movie and the amazing Zachary Levi (meeting him at the Rome premiere was a dream come true) i was very satisfied.
Everything about the film is well done:
The acting, directing, chemistry, story, moments, action and messages are all top notch!
It truly doesn’t deserve the flop and sincerely hope that James Gunn doesn’t make a mistake and approves a third film with this amazing cast because they deserve all of the success in the world.
