Changing Westerbeke diesel fuel filter on the sailboat

The little two and three piston Westerbekes have a small filter mounted on the engine. When changing the primary filter it is smart to change this one as well. It is a simple process and takes care of anything that gets by the primary filter and any last water that might have been able to sneak by.

Question: because all the filtres were so dirty, would you somehow clean the injectors? And to do so, would you have filled the filters with Sea Foam cleaner instead of diesel fuel?

Yep. But after doing it over and over it gets easier.

If you do it with any regularity you don't ever have to do it at sea or in the rain.

I’ll answer for you … most westerbekes are self bleeding when you turn the key over for a couple minutes … you’d do this before starting…. a nice feature for sure

@@yachtworks370 I have learned all about it after having to replace my fuel lift pump and paying $250 for a factory Westerbeke pump only to realize its just a $75 Faucet automotive fuel lift pump with a Westerbeke sticker on it.

@@yachtworks370 so turning the key to the on position (before pushing the start button to turn the engine over) will bleed the system? Thanks
