I really like the chatty plant chores videos over the music. It just feels more like friends having a chat. The music either drives me nuts and I watch on mute (or don't watch) or if it's lovely classical or some other soft music it makes me sleepy if not completely pass out lol. Enjoyed today's video!💚✌🏽

Totally! I hate music in videos. It’s so overdone.

I learned so much on this video. Thank you. My tai stem is brown a little so know I know why. My bark is too high. I need to lower the sub straight or add lecca so it dried faster. Especially when I water the moss pole

I just put a plant straight to dry le an and then soaked it. I didn’t realize until need to soak it first to repot. I guess I will see how it goes

Garbage bags are my go to potting mat 😁 I've noticed that higher humidity (50% and higher) encourages the plants to develop their aerial roots and attach.

Last September, before I had 60 plants and before I knew the difference between a pothos and a philodendron, I bought a tiny unnamed chartreuse plant in a 2 inch pot for $3 at TJ's. Some time after being told that she is a lemon lime philodendron I became confused by her growth pattern and leaf shape. Now I have repotted the 8 inch tall rootbound plant with elongated leaves that like to get stuck unfurling into a 6 inch pot and stuck a chopstick next to her when she didn't have the strength to stand in the upright position she prefers. I have come to believe she's really a Golden Goddess or Malay Gold. She has lived happily in my East facing with a touch of South windows for 8 months but not long after transplanting her last week two leaves faded to a lighter yellow. Transplant shock or too much sun? I asked myself. I moved her further from the window, ten feet into the room. Thanks for your videos which have taught me to be aware of the sunlight changes that come with seasons and how that affects plants. And also for mentioning that you are watching your lemon lime for fading leaves from sun. That confirms that it might be sun.
You have to stick with chatty videos because there is so much to learn. Look at how far I've come in 8 months! Thoughts on my plant ID??
Speaking of sunlight changes...same window, my pearls and jade has suddenly had some yellowing on one or 2 leaves and a brown spot on same leaves. I moved that to a less sunny spot thinking sunburn (because it acted like it did when I locked it in a hot car once) but now I am wondering if I need to to water less. I wait until the soil is completely dry but maybe I should wait another day or 2?

I would have to see a picture of that one plant to help you with the ID. It could be a light issue on your photos, but honestly mines doing some funky brown and yellow dots on some leaves too right now, but I’m pretty sure in my case it’s because it desperately needs to be repotted.

I’m so behind in plant chores! It’s been a busy spring and lots of messes keep popping up to handle! I have a small Silver Dragon that has been living happily in the west window of my utility room since October. It’s gotten hotter and I had a sick cat last week that took a lot of my attention, so I must have delayed watering and found it limp. The center leaves bounced back, but I’m upset that it isn’t as pretty as before.

LECA will still have a lot of residue after rinsing. I think it will benefit from soaking. One thing I noticed (and someone else mentioned) is that there will be more fertilizer salts on my LECA if I do not soak vs. soak.
Here is some other info from First Rays:
"All LECA media share some common minerals and manufacturing processes that may lead to the presence of unknown soluble mineral salts within the ceramic body. Preparing media for use is critical to your success."
There is a “binder” that allows the clay particles to stick together during the pelletization process.
"the more common ones being based upon methylcellulose and polyvinyl chloride, but often with sodium salt components. I have even seen situations where diesel fuel was used as the binder."
"those clay pellets may have some odd residues from the firing process, and I think it’s safe to say that pure water was not used to quench them as they exited the kiln, so who knows what the water may have added."

I just wanna be clear that I didn’t mean use it without rinsing it. It’s thoroughly already been rinsed. My point was what’s the difference of soaking it and then transferring it to the pot versus putting it in the pot filling the pot completely with water and letting it soak that way before draining it out.

What do you think about using th smaller leca pebbles? Any experience with it? Seems like it would solve the stabilization situation since it fits together more tightly but that may also lead to other issues. Would love to hear your opinion.

I’m definitely behind. I have 4 silver dragon corms that need to be potted, 4 different Alocasia’s I got from Amazon that need to be repotted and 4 different Calathea’s needing to be repotted🤪

Leca doesn't have to "soak" per'se, it's because it's so dusty. And even bags of leca or the "leca queen" tells us to rinse off the dust. 😉

    • @AlohaPlantLife
      @AlohaPlantLife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yes, I am aware of that. I didn’t mean use it without cleaning it. I’ve already thoroughly rinsed all of my lecca and have it stored away nice and clean. I meant pre-soaking it so that it’s already wet before putting it in the pot versus putting it in the pot and filling the pot with water and letting it soak that way and then draining it out. I guess I didn’t make that very clear because multiple people have posted similar comments about that lol. My bad 💚
