    Every player's strike post-merger has been about pensions and/or health care. Other rider issues may have been present, like free agency, but those two are the big ones. It is by far the hardest professional sport to recover from, given that training for it begins when you're in elementary school with not much emphasis being placed on a post-playing career despite the average NFL career lasting less than 4 years, and the lack of post-play benefits.

    • @dollartwentychickentendies

      With how much the league takes in, players should be getting an MLB-level pension. (tl;dr FULL HEALTHCARE COVERAGE FOR LIFE AFTER ONE DAY, $34k annual pension after 43 games played which becomes $100k after 10 seasons. Support your local union, folks.)

      Do you believe that they are compensated sufficiently to purchase insurance?
      Do you believe that they are compensated sufficiently to have agents and personal managers? (Yes. Who advise them to buy insurance.)
      Do you believe they should pass a law that when you voluntarily - *voluntarily* take a 4 year career, that the world owes you additionally? So if you decide to become a boxer, or explosives technician, that whatever pay deal you make is void, because they owe you more?

    • @charliemoore1218

      I wish insurance was simpler. The risk factor of being an NFL player makes insuring them much more expensive than insuring an MLB or NBA player. I assume it’s much more similar to trying to insure MMA fighters.

      When my great-uncle graduated from college in the 50s, an NFL team attempted to recruit him (I think it may have been the Browns, but I don't remember), but he had no desire to ruin his body for not even that much money in those days and went to graduate school instead.

      @@Bill_Wooit’s not for the people making tens of millions. It’s meant for the guys that didn’t get those big contracts and now have to deal with their injuries for the rest of their life. With how much money the NFL makes, I don’t think it’s that crazy to do this. Although I’d argue some of this is responsible for the players union for not thinking long term for the health of the players. Take less $ in the contracts and put it toward the health insurance pensions but some would argue the players shouldn’t have to give up $ for that so idk.

    Here's another closely guarded secret I wish I knew the answer to but never will: How and why the league owners and commissioner allowed Jerry Jones permission to construct (Cowboys) AT&T Stadium in an unorthodox and unconventional East-Northeast West-Southwest field alignment. They even somehow approved the massive windows on that WSW side to allow direct sunlight into the building during later afternoon 3:25 P.M. CT games. This, of course, was preventable by simply going the perfect North South field alignment (like Lambeau Field) as Google Maps measurement tool states there is enough room between both Randol Mill Road and Cowboys Way.

    • @BHox01
      @BHox01 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      People always rave about Jerry world as a venue and im always baffled that it always looks borderline unplayable for half the game because of the godawful windows. Super whack that nobody ever really talks about it

    • @AlBundyFan365
      @AlBundyFan365 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      @@BHox01 Yeah, that's the truth; the sunlight through the windows is rarely talked about and only gets mentioned when it actually impacts the game. Plus, it gets annoying to hear how both football teams are affected by it because they switch sides between quarters. The timeanddate website says the lowest angle degree the sun has at solar noon in Arlington, Texas is 34° in December. So I'm inclined to believe there would be no sunlight impact on any sporting events in AT&T Stadium if the architectural structure was slightly modified and the field orientation was perfect North and South.

    • @ihatemoneyASMR
      @ihatemoneyASMR 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The sunlight is a feature. They wanted it. They even put the correct windows in the first time as opposed to a baseball glass dome that always have to go back and tint them

    • @AlBundyFan365
      @AlBundyFan365 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ihatemoneyASMRI find your comment reply flawed. It's foolish to say sunlight is a feature when as of 2023, there are 29 of 30 NFL stadiums featuring some amount of outdoor natural light during day games. Also, it turns out Cleveland Browns Stadium is in a similar situation with a Southwest-Northeast field alignment, but I give that venue a pass on criticism because the SW side is fully occupied by crowd seats and fully blocks out the setting sun when either 4:05 or 4:25 P.M. ET games would be played, primarily in the first half of the season.

    The life expectancy of a player that plays 4 years in the NFL is 20 years less than a man that didn’t play. 20 years off the average life expectancy !! This is per a NFL study done 30 years ago and buried.
    It’s unthinkable that the league doesn’t provide these men life long health insurance.

      I guarantee that more than a few player have a "legit" Adderall script. The thought of a 6'2 300 pound DT on 20-40 mg of Adderall is terrifying.

    Honestly don't mind if football players use PEDS, tbh, PEDS can actually reduce injury, I would hope they would be going through a doctor, or a certified professional, but it's literally the one sport I could get behind PED usage

    I'm not sure how you can claim that medical care is administered to players without documentation just because you haven't seen it. Private medical records are none of your business and that would be illegal to share with the public anyway.

    I wouldn't say I'm dumber when high.
    When I'm high, I'm better at doing the things I already know how to do really well.
    But I'm awful at learning how to do new things when I'm high.
    Getting high can really put me in the zone, which would be perfect for an NFL player.

    Just to stick up for my department, while Five Points has a great point about the healthcare plan, I would like to point out that Seattle Fire Department's Medic One (the medic unit shown in the 49ers vs Seahawks clips) is very top notch. Now that I have defended my honor, we can continue.

    It’s pretty much a non secret about players’ PED usage and understandably so, but if it’s pretty much universally accepted and less than 1% of players get caught, how did guys like Brian Cushing and Laron Landry continually get caught and stigmatized? Hope anyone can answer this for me thank you.

      Oh yeah "but they chose that job".
      The vast majority of military positions see absolutely 0 combat time. There are plenty of people that spend their entire career filing paperwork in some shty part of the US and do absolutely di*k all that puts their life on the line. In the event you do see active combat .. If your dumb enough to go sign up to serve a nation thats expressed how little it gives a sht about you over and over and willing to die for someone else's proxy war (and money) ..your a fu*kin idiot.
      Now take that ra ra us establishment bullsht elsewhere. No one cares.

    The NFL Players Union is doing a pretty crap job representing it's members. Especially considering that the NFL literally cannot operate without players, not good when the pool of replacements isn't that high.
    They might as well use that leverage a lot more.

    • @kenosabi
      @kenosabi 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am aware of what they are actually doing. Just stating that they are letting down their members by not doing their jobs, similar to many in Congress these days.
      Certainly if they did their jobs, the salary cap wouldn't be in place whatsoever.
