GoHerping speaking of enclosures I have a 20 long 200 bucks and an empty space in my room and I'm wondering would I should get as a pet the only thing I can't have is a snake or spider
Owen Hudson try for a lizard! Many different species could live in a 20 gal long. For example a bearded dragon can do great in a 20 long, but eventually I'd upgrade to a 40 (when they're adult size, about 2 feet) what kind of animal are you most interested in?
Kyle Merrifield I've only kept desert lizards like leopard geckos bearded dragons and that's it I'm looking to get into something with some color or something I can keep in groups I heard you anoles but they don't sell them around my area and it's too cold to get wild caught ones
I've found a 55 gallon aquarium that some one was tossing out on the side of the rode. Reason being is that it had a small crack on the bottom and couldn't hold water any more...works great for my reptiles though. Also found an Exo Terra that someone was gonna toss out. It was missing a door but the door cost 15 dollars online.
The Hutch, even though it can hold reptiles I, being a person who has only had three reptiles, still wouldn't trust it. I think it can break underneath all the pressure. Cool if you still have it though and it still works!
I've made all of my reptile enclosures with wood. I had an old desk that I didn't use and was fairly waterproof, so I made a crested gecko enclosure with it. I did coat the part that would be constantly in contact with the moist substrate with epoxy, though. So that costed $20 for the epoxy (used less than 1/4 part of the bottle), and $10 for the plexiglass door (only used half a sheet though). For the leopards, I bought a gigantic sheet of MDF for $20, it was cut to size for free, and I made 2 enclosures out of it. I bought one of these plastic rails for $6 and two sheets of acrylic for $20. I already had screws, so that was free, and I liked the MDF color, so I didn't paint it. Two 32x18x14" enclosures for $50 is not bad :) I'm currently making a day gecko enclosure, using the leftovers from the desk, and the leftovers from the plexiglass sheet used for the crestie's enclosure. That build will be 100% free :p
Found a 40gal behind my building and a zoomed 10gal in my hallway, it's always good to also check out the animal shelters, sometimes they throw out unusable tanks.
Great video, Alex. The $1 per gallon sale is awesome, as is craigslist/classifieds! Another cheap option is not even using glass tanks, but plastic or rubbermaid tubs (for turtles, stock tanks and kiddy ponds, like Franklin's) Maybe not as pretty, but certainly economical. (just gotta watch out for where your heat sources are!!!)
The Turtle Girl I’m planing on making a rubber ware container for my American bullfrog and my gray tree frogs. I'm hoping I'll be able to actually make it look nice...
Have you thought about just making your terrariums yourself? I made one to fit inside my coffee table. I went to the local glass shop and had the five pieces of glass I needed cut to size all for about $80, and then purchased some Silicone I (non-toxic and safe for pets) for like $7 from Home Depot. I used a couple large clamps to help hold everything together while the silicone was setting and viola! For about $87 I made a custom 55 gallon snake tank that fits inside my coffee table and looks so cool! I wish I could post a picture for you!
if its inside it I'd assume its inside some sort of cupboard thing then if you put those office desk drawer sliders on the bottom somehow itd slide out when u go to clean it
If a product is in store that's slightly damaged, try and ask for a discount- my store will normally give at least 10% off for minor dings and such instead of writing off the product entirely
coincidence that you posted this now, my young ball python is outgrowing his 10 gallon enclosure and im currently trying to find him a bigger one for a good price , thank you for the tips to find some ^-^
To seal cracks in a glass tank, you canuse DAP (or any other brand, I guess) aquarium grade silicone caulking/sealant. You wanna use aquarium grade because it doesn't leach hazardous chemicals after it cures (hardens). Just follow the instructions closely. I've used it on my beardie's tank.
Yo, make your screen tops out of window frames, take the measurement of the inside lip of your tank, make a window frame at Ace hardware. The 5/16 inch thick window frame is absolutely perfect it fits so flush and generally as long as it's around about a 20 long or 30b it should only cost you about $14. Larger sizes should only run you around $10 more :)
Kyle Merrifield you can also search up yard sale groups or just groups for buying and selling stuff on facebook! Ive never gotten anything on fb but people post lots of things..usually not reptile related though cx or perhaps rehoming or reptile for sale groups in your area! I got my corn snake off of craigslist and lots of people end up posting pets and baby animals they cant afford to keep or just dont want.
I got a 60gal for $20 no cracks at all The guy just didnt want it anymore and it had calcium stains but that's easy to take off I now use it for my Red-eared slider and some cichlids
Got the app letgo after this video and got a 20 long with a screen lock cover for 10 dollars. Only had a tiny crack at the bottom I saved so much money because of this. Which makes me super happy because I really wanted to buy more live plants for my betta and get a leopard gecko for the 20.
Craigslist is a good place to check out for animals, and cages/tanks. Also, if there are any auctions near you they are worth checking out also. I scored a 175 gallon tank for $5.00, so it's definitely worth checking into. Usually auctions have listings on Auctionzip.com. You can put the miles your willing to travel and it will give you all the auctions in that range. Most have pictures also, so you can see what they are selling before you go.
I use a tub for my turtle, that's because its the perfect size, and I customized the lid (with hardware mesh) so there is good ventilation. I don't get why people hate on people who have tubs.

Craiglist is great, I found a crested gecko that came with a 20 gallon tall for 60 bucks and a ball python with a 20 gallon tall (I switched to a plastic bin immediately after and plan to get a 40-50 long) for 50 bucks
I found a 29 gallon tank with all of its accessories for 5 dollars at a garage sale! I was very surprised. There was also a 10 gallon for 2 dollars but my mom said no more tanks 😉 hehe.
Lps Animals my family has said no more, but I always end up with more. I currently have 5 with fish in them, and 2 that will be terrariums soon, and one that my dog broke. :-[
Lps Animals oh and a critter keeper with a spider. I also raise rabbits, and chickens. I also have a bunch of cats, 4 dogs, and a turtle. They say no more pets but I always wind up convinceing them to cave lol. 😉 my pets are all well loved, and I'm sure yours are too.
i got a 55 gallon for $75 on an app called Let Go, one 10 gallon from the side of the road, a 20 gallon high/deep for $5 at my neighbor's yard sale, and all the others were given to me by various friends ( a 10 gallon that used to have a gecko in it ( she had gotten a bigger tank ), a 10 gallon that I got with a friend's Hermit Crab, a 30 gallon ( no lid ) that we got with a bunch of fish, and a 15 gallon that Bearded Dragon was in ( he was upgraded to the 55 ))
I recently got a 40 gallon with stand for 30 dollars at a yard sale. Also came with a heat mat (if it works which they just bought it so it should) I will use it on something else, and a dish. I threw out the driftwood as it was very dirty. The tank will house a crested gecko.
i find a lot of good deals on Facebook market place. about 2-3 months ago I found a 125g planted aquarium with the stand, two canister filters, two heaters, two powerheads, lights, driftwood, a bunch of big java ferns and all the other misc. fish keeping items all for 200 bucks
at an ollies there was a 90 gallon for 50 bucks because the middle divider was cracked and the filter was missing but you could just remove the divider and you don't need a filter for a reptile if you wanted to you could even glue a piece of cardboard, glass, wood, plastic, ect into the slot for the divider and it was only 70 dollars before the break it came with gravel and a few fake plants
I started my beardie in a 10gal because he was only like 6-7 inches, but I KNOW I need to upsize within a couple weeks to make sure he has enough space because they grow fast....really hoping I can find a good cheap tank...
I got a super cheap 15 gallon bowfront from a family member. Ask around in your family, chances are that someone has one collecting dust in the garage.
I haven't watched the video yet so sorry if this is already mentioned, but be aware of when petco is having its 1$ per gallon sale ! I just got a 10 gallon for 10$!
I will probably be getting a leopard gecko soon and I have a 20 gallon tall tank but it seems like she wouldn't have very much space in there so I was looking for a 20 gallon long tank (which is 72 more square inches) and I found a nice one with a screen cover for only $40.
you can get a 10 gallon with no lid that holds water at any walmart i have been to walmarts in like 20 different states and they have all had 10 gallon tanks for around 14 dollars depending on state its normally between the bird and fish area and of course they have other aquariums at walmart but there in boxes so you cant see if there broken but i would just get two of the 10 tanks and just connect them some how if you have two
about a month ago I found a 50 gallon national geographic front opening door enclosure on the side of the rode i cleaned it up and i am currently in the process of making a background for it
I just recently adopted an adult 4ft ball python from someone who did want him anymore and he came with a big tank (at least 30gal) but the downsides were his tank was disgusting (torn up shed all oveer everything and old soiled substrate) and the snake somewhat underweight, i have now named Arcturus and he is incredibly friendly and curious, doing his first feeding this weekend and just moved him into some new substrate after having to have him on a faux grass mat (that came with him) for most of the week. Getting a tank through adoption of an animal with it is definitely a possibility but do be wary because you may not know the state that the enclosure and animal will be in, i had no idea what to expect, and ended up with an underweight python in a horribly dirty tank but i wont say it wasnt worth it, he's a beautiful snake and is living happily in his (now very clean) tank doing as snakes do
@@nightinggale6470 At the moment im not able to get something bigger because until i move into my own place i haven't got the space here. But Ill definitely look into the christmas tree tub idea. Im trying out coconut fiber because i cant stand aspen shavings, he seems comfortable with it and it makes spot cleaning much easier.
@@nightinggale6470 Ah i wasnt aware that could happen, i got the kind that comes as a compressed brick so most of the dust is left with the excess water but ill be sure to see about doing that. Thank you for the recommendations.
Psst... Pet Supplies Plus regularly had reptile tank and aquarium sales for either dollar per gallon for 50% off (I got a Zilla 40 gallon with a sliding top for only $54 instead or $108). They have more sales then any other chain pet store I’ve seen.
Ive been thinking of making my own enclose making sure to follow ventilation, lighting and space requirements. Plus ill be able to make it to the exact size I need. So plaese tell me if this is a good idea when I follow all safety guidlines to ensure the happiness and health of the soon the be snake.
The dollar per gallon sale has actually changed nationwide: the dollar per gallon part only applies to: 10, 20 long, 20 tall, and 29 gallons, but 40 breeder, 55, and 75 gallons are half off during the sales.
I have my 4-month old Spotted python in a 10-gallon glass aquarium with a screen lid -- problem is this little guy keeps escaping at night, and I have no idea how he's doing it or what to do with this screen lid to prevent him from escaping. Any ideas ?
@GoHerping What's the best enclosure for a ball python in a house with someone who thinks snakes are creepy, but at the same time you also want to have your ball Python comfortable? And I have a Rottweiler so the ball Python wouldn't be able to get out on it's own. What would the enclosure be best for that?
my beardie is in a 220 gallon enclosure. it's a wooden enclosure with glass sliding doors. I think I got it for about £280 which I thought was quite good. this video kinda changed my mind a tad bit lmaoo
I was thinking of making my own out of plexiglass for my bearded dragon. I want it a little wider than an aquarium. Do u think glue would hold the sides together? U can score it with a utility knife then just snap it off. Its pretty cheap & wondering what u think of this idea?
u been successful on breeding green anoles? just curious cause they're so easy to breed but u usually have to wait till the anoles are ready. and I've seen your videos from when u caught them
I saw a great deal on a 50 gallon on Craig's list but the lady never responded. I hope I can find a good deal on one here locally. I'm going to get a cage custom made but it will be awhile due to the price.
Hey bro i got a 30 gal snake tank with the screen hood i was thinking would it be ok if i put a heat lamp on him i have a under tank heat with a jumpstart
My mom said she would let me get a snake as long as it didn’t get to be as big as a ball python. I really want a kingsnake and have done a ton of research, but the problem is, my mom doesn’t wanna pay $500 for it and the most I’ve gotten it down to is $379 but she still thinks it’s a lot (the whole snake, shipping, and terrarium + hides) I am probably going to have to work but no one is going out because my state is on lockdown. I’m hoping by May (my birthday) that this whole thing will be over and I can get my snake

I saved a lot of money by going into one of my sheds and finding one of my grandads old fish tanks (the lid isn’t the best but I’m able to improvise)
I tried looking for a 60 gallon or 75 gallon for my reptile but I can't find one
My leopard gecko is currently living in a used 20 gallon fish tank. I'm planning on buying her a front-opening terrarium that is a little bigger.
Very interested in your plastic vs glass enclosure video, when it comes out.
I will probably be getting a leopard gecko soon and I have a 20 gallon tall tank but it seems like she wouldn't have very much space in there so I was looking for a 20 gallon long tank (which is 72 more square inches) and I found a nice one with a screen cover for only $40.
you can get a 10 gallon with no lid that holds water at any walmart i have been to walmarts in like 20 different states and they have all had 10 gallon tanks for around 14 dollars depending on state its normally between the bird and fish area and of course they have other aquariums at walmart but there in boxes so you cant see if there broken but i would just get two of the 10 tanks and just connect them some how if you have two
about a month ago I found a 50 gallon national geographic front opening door enclosure on the side of the rode i cleaned it up and i am currently in the process of making a background for it
I just bought a 40 gallon at a Goodwill for $5. Didn't need it but couldn't pass it up.
Can u use large plastic storage bins for bearded dragons
same question... i know im very late but have you found this out ???
love your content
I’m looking to get a ball python i think I’m going to custom make a 75 gallon tank, also, do you sell reptiles?
I researched this. Once something is “thrown away or discarded “ it becomes “public domain”. YAY!!!
Craigslist surprised me, I looked for about 10 min and found 5 40 gallon tanks at around $30-$60 each. One even comes with an LED light.
Psst... Pet Supplies Plus regularly had reptile tank and aquarium sales for either dollar per gallon for 50% off (I got a Zilla 40 gallon with a sliding top for only $54 instead or $108). They have more sales then any other chain pet store I’ve seen.
I got a 2 gallon tank for $4 at a Ark Thrift store and a 20 gallon long and a big box of supplies for $20 a a yard sale
Great info!
I have found enclosures on the curb on trash day some times they are in good shape
Ive been thinking of making my own enclose making sure to follow ventilation, lighting and space requirements. Plus ill be able to make it to the exact size I need. So plaese tell me if this is a good idea when I follow all safety guidlines to ensure the happiness and health of the soon the be snake.
Hiya! I was wondering if you can do am episode revolving around scale rot/mouth rot. I recently gotten a ball python and I fear he may have mouth rot.
What do you use for shelving for the tanks?
This is the video for me
The dollar per gallon sale has actually changed nationwide: the dollar per gallon part only applies to: 10, 20 long, 20 tall, and 29 gallons, but 40 breeder, 55, and 75 gallons are half off during the sales.
Arlene C I've seen a dollar per gallon on much bigger than a 40 recently
At pet supplies plus right now our 40 breeders & 55 gals are a dollar per gallon! It's a yearly sale
CocoaKitten_ yeah, so is mine
Arlen
I won 2 goldfish at a far as an experiment and they have been the least troublesome of all my 13 fish
I have my 4-month old Spotted python in a 10-gallon glass aquarium with a screen lid -- problem is this little guy keeps escaping at night, and I have no idea how he's doing it or what to do with this screen lid to prevent him from escaping. Any ideas ?
Hey are you going to charlotte repticon in December?
Where are you shopping that has sales for $ per gallon.. omg I need that! 🧐
u been successful on breeding green anoles? just curious cause they're so easy to breed but u usually have to wait till the anoles are ready. and I've seen your videos from when u caught them
I saw a great deal on a 50 gallon on Craig's list but the lady never responded. I hope I can find a good deal on one here locally. I'm going to get a cage custom made but it will be awhile due to the price.
I got 1 20 gallon high , one 20 gallon tall and a lid for each for 15$ from a reptile expo

Yes ty
My mom said she would let me get a snake as long as it didn’t get to be as big as a ball python. I really want a kingsnake and have done a ton of research, but the problem is, my mom doesn’t wanna pay $500 for it and the most I’ve gotten it down to is $379 but she still thinks it’s a lot (the whole snake, shipping, and terrarium + hides) I am probably going to have to work but no one is going out because my state is on lockdown. I’m hoping by May (my birthday) that this whole thing will be over and I can get my snake
Thaaaankkkkkkkk youuuuuuuiuuuuuuu
Yeah I need a 120 gallon for my lizard. Ive seen them retail for $1,000
When will the dollar per gallon sale happen 😭
