    Lots of great ideas once again Elle! Thank you for sharing these tips with us!
    I had an idea with the “kiddie pool” thing. You can set it up where it has a “turf/beach” area as well as a water area, that way your reptile has a choice to be on either surface/area. You can also add large-leaved plants to add a shady area over part of the land and/or the water area so they can get out of the sun if they want without needing to move the pool to different parts of your yard at different times of the day.
    I’m totally going to have to go browse my local hardware stores and see what I can find. Thanks again for the great ideas and tips. ☺️💕

      This is a terrific idea. We re-purposed a kiddie pool so our beardie can have some outside natural light time and enrichment. Triple washed play sand, different shaped rocks and branches. He loves it!

    I bought everything I used to build our beardies new hide from Home Depot in one trip and spent about $30 when the local pet store was selling the same size hide for around $60-$65. Definitely good places to find inexpensive supplies for those who are on a budget and can get creative.

    So much of my blue tongue skink enclosure came from Home Depot! 4 inch drainage pipes make great hides, storage bins can be used for large water bowls if you cut the side out, and you can get a big paving stone in the garden section for like $3 to use as a basking area. I do sometimes get funny looks when I say I'm shopping for my lizard but what are ya gonna do?

    I’m a beginner at taking care of a bearded dragon. I had to take in my moms bearded dragon because she moved and the place she’s renting doesn’t allow pets (including fish, which I had to take in too, but I’m a fish keeper so I already have a 40gal tank set up and cycled for fish but didn’t get around to the pet store, luckily I didn’t because now I can take in my moms betta fish and he will have na entire 40gal tank with live plants to himself) and so I’m trying to do the best I can at taking care of the bearded dragon even though it was last minute. She currently has an enclosure, 1 rock hide, her lights and heat lamp, paper towels on the bottom because I read that it’s good for them, her food and water bowls and thermometers for her heat and humidity. It’s sadly the bare minimum but I let her wonder around my room supervised and have a blanket pile next to my window so she can look outside, which she really likes. I just watched a video about how to clean rocks found outside so I found a ton of flat rocks (there’s no pesticides or chemicals in the land where I live) and just rinsed them outside and once they’re dry I’m going to wash them again in hot hot water and scrub them. Then I’ll let those dry and put them into her enclosure. I don’t have a lot of money because I’m a college student and I’m going to use my Christmas money to get her things. Thank you and if there’s any advice for a beginner, please let me know ❤

    Hey Elle! I have 2 Leo’s, 1 beardie and 1 ball python. I’m struggling to find out which substrate to use for any of them. I’ve went to the closest reptarium place here in Dallas, tx. And they suggested whatever they suggested. Though i know for your bearded dragon you use tiles. Can you make a guide or reply back to me on what exactly i can use? (Besides tiles, loose substrate i suppose). I.e topsoil + play sand from Home Depot as mentioned in the video

    • @ellesreptiles
      @ellesreptiles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I made a video all about arid substrate options, focusing on beardies and leopard geckos here
      th-cam.com/video/a_4w_HRgIY8/w-d-xo.html
      I didn't put the homemade ratio in, but it's 50% play sand, 30% organic topsoil, 20% excavator clay.
      As for ball pythons, I'm currently using Reptichip. It's fantastic, but I'll be switching them to a more natural substrate with their tank upgrades (40% organic topsoil, 40% reptisoil, 20% play sand, and then sphagnum moss on top)
