MGA - simple and elegant. I think you're right: they're often overlooked. One thinks "it's just an old car" but everything i see one I realise how pretty they are, and this video shows they're competent sports cars too!
That car looked an awful lot of fun and such a good colour for it too. It's nice that you mentioned Bill Boddy (WB) as he's always (along with Jenks, of course) been a motoring hero of mine. I recall that he was also very fond of the VW Beetle too.
Don't forget the coupe of which I have a 1959 1500cc example! Did you know most cars came with a telescoping steering wheel adjusted by a nut on the column under the dash? Lovely video!
When I was born in 1963 my late father drove an MGA hardtop with the B series engine. Its registration number was YYK 30. My parents always maintained that it was a firm favourite which had to be traded in for a Jag Mark 2 due to a growing family. Subsequently my father bought my mother an MGB GT new in August 1972. Lovely simple cars.
These are pretty car designed by men who knew how to design a sports car looks fast standing still and this MGA with its improvements which don't detract but enhance the driving experience and what driving reasonably fast around B roads this will sell quickly
Absolutely stunning. Great engine. Really suits the Teeedy look. BMC, British Leyland, Austin Rover, Rover, MG Rover, when they got it right it was fabulous, when they didn't it was a real shambles.
Well, that one’s an absolute gem. I’m an MG fan here in the US, and have owned a Midget for going on 30 years. The A is one of my favorite MG models, and this one looks superb!
Stunning car, love it! Such a clean and elegant design. Makes me miss my MG Midget a bit. In that car you also sit right on the asphalt. Great review Matt, love the period clothing 👍
This MGA has such tasteful modifications to it, the perfect blend to make it usable and enjoyable. Fabulous review, I'm now going to go and hunt the classifieds here in New Zealand!
They were the days, never to be repeated I doubt. Can't beat a good convertable on a sunny day, just waiting for that one sunny day we get each year to go for a blast, lol. Great vid thanks.
A beautiful timeless design classic, so nice that every home should have one. Seriously though what a car. Obviously back in those days theft from the car was not considered too much and is arguably still the case with open toppers. I still want one though. listening to the 'light' channel on longwave (1500 meters if I recall correctly). AM wireless sound radio. Why was I born so many years later. Many thanks for sharing, another top job Matt.
Beautiful car, someone is really going to enjoy owing it, and the improvements are sympathetic and make using it in modern traffic more enjoyable. Terrific review as usual, much thanks.
Brilliant video, good camera angles and action, brilliant car, after watching video I just want to go out and buy one or an MGB or midget will do. Yes stop off at country pub for non alcoholic drink a must.
Nostalgia by the tank full, when UK Ltd. built cars that were world beating, the A coming out when it was still export or go bust. Dad always went misty eyed whenever one roared past our MM, he did the same when a Triumph Speed Twin or a Norton overtook. His old Douglas flat tank languishing at the back of the garage.
What a gorgeous car indeed. I am rather surprised to see a very nicely and carefully modified car with the regular A grill. The design of that grill had a flaw, in that it moved aie up and around the radiator, which could lead to overheating. Twin Cam cars had a different unit with vertical bars that flowed air much better. Thete was a run of SOHC cars that were fitted with that Twin Cam grill. It made a huge difference.
Beautiful car Matt! Thanks for taking us along! Allways love those beautiful gages from Smiths , but the speedo is from Jaeger!? Was that original??? 👍🏻👍🏻🆙 like allways!
Matt great video and beautiful car , love the tweed look 😁 very dapper and almost pass for a gentleman of a certain era 👌🏻, and yep a shandy & ploughman’s lunch would go down a treat .
There's a piece about the new Carice TC2 in the UK papers today, Matt. A Dutch retro EV roadster. Looks very much like this MGA, inside as well as outside. Weighs only 630kg. 38 grand, though... 😵💫
I drove an MGA Coupe last year. If you think the roadster is hard to enter, the hard-top is way worse. I'd love to find out how the open car compares, although from your video I think the driving experience is similar. I think I prefer the more vintage character of the A to the more well-known MGB.
I'll bet Joe Raiti would love to go "On Throttle" in this! And I'm sure Bill of Curious Cars would love to have this in his inventory. Doug DeMuro might like this for his Cars & Bids inventory.
@@Phiyedough The Vitesse Mazda MX5 5 speed is an excellent conversion I have one in my 1959 MGA roadster and it can keep up with modern day traffic no problem.
I enjoyed your video but there are couple of niggles from a technical point of view. Firstly, it is really disconcerting when your speech doesn't match the video. Secondly, dropping short pieces of voice-over into the video for me doesn't work. If you're going to do that, do it just once. I am a long term subscriber to your channel and I think you are great but the technical side does occasionally let you down.
Constructive feedback is never a bad thing, but I do think you need to take into account the size of the channel. You get like 2 videos a week from Mr Furious, it must be a serious struggle. So something has to give. Especially when you consider he's doing this solo.

I think he was. I worked at Motor Sport for a little while so read a lot of his work and always enjoyed it

it really is, its had a fantastic restoration
Fair comments on the quality of this production. Perhaps less quantity and more quality would see the growth he obviously chases.

I always found the MGA the most exciting of all the MGs.

Had my eye on thus advert on ebay and car and classic, the stage 2 b series and 5 speed would make it epic
I really enjoyed that one Matt, the car looks stunning with the modifications. In fact it is probably my favourite of your reviews

Twin Cam cars had the same grille - you're thinking of the Mk2.

I am lead to believe that Jaeger in the UK were bought out by Smiths in the 1930s
Ja, ist Original. Ich hab das auch.
Lovely motor and I’m lovin the tweeds …….👍🇬🇧

I wonder if it handles better with the original tyres/wheels. I have a MGA coupe with widened wheels and tyres. But have a set of std wheels to fit.

Enjoying the mix of content on the channel 👍👍👍
Bernie Marsden (guitarist) said he liked his hard-earned MGA he treated himself to in his autobiography. 😁👍
Interesting. Not sure about those oversized tyres though.
That revcounter keeps doing happy dances
It was enjoying the drive!

£29,995... $37,500 USD... $57,500 AUD... Geez you'd need to be keen.
I'm just jealous that I'm too povo for this sort of toy.
One of the most beautiful MGs IMHO.
Beautiful car; those oversized tyres look perfect.
Completely off topic, what was the brand of red oxide in the white can you use matt please
Its from BDX, the Bulldog people - rust neutralising primer
As a fiddling passenger, I'd find it hard not to press that central horn-press all the time. Beep-beep!
That almost looks like an AC/Cobra! I wonder if you could drop a Ford 289 or 302 (5.0) under the hood?
What no LS
@@thomasschumacher8748 Nah! There's enough Chevy/GM V8 transplants out there. Time to show the Fords some love.
You'd need a big hammer and a grinder to make it fit! A Rover V8 (Buick 215) would be more appropriate
like ur tweed jacket and cap for the occation .
Did u use the tea shelf?
I wouldn’t dare, it’s too pristine!
They are lovely cars but, design-wise, the Morris influence means it tends to look rather like an elongated and lowered Morris Minor.
The best thing about these cars (apart from beauty) is the SOUND.
Lovely old motor in a stunning colour. Do you know what the gearbox came out of?
I dont, but theres lots of paperwork with the dealer
@furiousdriving I was curious as I know that Morris Minors can be converted to use a Ford gearbox. Whatever it is, a 5-speed box really makes sense
@@James-ld2jc I think I would go for the MGB overdrive gearbox as those work well and fit in better with the sleeper concept.
The normal swap is the Marina gearbox which is 5 speed and should bolt straight on. I have kept my MGA roadster very original, but that is just me.
@@Phiyedough The Vitesse Mazda MX5 5 speed is an excellent conversion I have one in my 1959 MGA roadster and it can keep up with modern day traffic no problem.
Who would win in a country lane race, Matt's Eunos MX5 or this restomod MGA? 😁
I know which one would be more reliable, restomod or not and as such I know which one would be more likely to get to the end of the race!
It would be close, very evenly matched
I hope they fix that rev counter before selling it.
Im sure they'll sort anything that needs to be
Ford type 9 5 speed, a perfect mod.
A brilliant review Matt of the perfect sports car.
Thanks, it is ideal for a country lane and summer day!
That car is boss, nothing more, nothing less!
How does it compare to your MX5 ?……..
Surprisingly similar, but more raw feeling
Someone should make a modern day version of that
MX5 maybe
That’s the closest thing today
We do like a Tweed Jacket Review . Oops sorry wrong channel !
And not a beige leather interior to be seen!
Needs a real ale shelf
Ha! Forget cup holders, it needs a tankard holder!
Safety fast. ❤
Came with v6 engine in Norway

Well, I guess the realistic alternative is to have no voice over, and go without the information given in the voice over. Is that OK?
Wow your hard to please 😂, in real life Matts voice is always 3 seconds behind his lips moving 😁, just the way he is lol 😂.
