They all have color-changing abilities. Their head and face change color in cold water. That's what the sponge is for. That's why their lips are so pale. When you put cold water on them they get lipstick.

Sadly most modern Barbie dolls are not as detailed as they use to be and there has definitely been a downgrade in quality over the years.
