Jay as a kid I was always into magic but lost time to practice over the years. Watching your videos has inspired me to start practicing again. I recently had twin girls that are 10 months old now and cannot wait until they get older to entertain them with card magic!!! Thank you. When my wife and I got married we hired a magician to do the cocktail hour at our wedding. It was a huge hit!!!
I've never been a fan of one particular genre, per se. I enjoy films across the spectrum from horror to western to musicals, but the genre I find I enjoy most often are sci-fi/fantasy films. Also, great trick Jay. I'd like to point out that instead of asking an audience member which pairs of cards to use, you could simply remove the jokers from the deck at the start of your set of card tricks, leaving them off to the side but in plain sight the entire time, then when it comes time to perform this trick, ask the audience if it's okay to use the Jokers. That way you're using something that has been in front of them for a few tricks now and will seem just as innocuous as a random card, but you've also engaged them, asking their permission to use the jokers.

Action Mysteries. There's a good balance of drama and puzzlement, and straight explosions and fights.

hey jay any advice for card tricks in a hospital setting??? ive been trying to find a way to incorporate magic tricks into patient education/care to make whatever im attempting to teaching my patients stick and their stay a little more pleasant.

Jay, Thanks for all you share with us. I expect to keep trying this and many other things you've shared. The insights of how to perform, vice "doing a trick" is very helpful. My favorite movie genre is spy thrillers like the Jason Bourne (sp? yeah, he must really like them not knowing how to spell the guy's name!) series.

What a great trick. Your performance was brilliant, made me not look for how it works... so when you started explaining and I "got it" (realized what was about to come) I hit my forehead so hard it still hurts... :o)
There was an era of movies called "New Hollywood", starting in the late 60s (Easy Rider), ending in the mid 90s (Demolition Man). Controversial and subversive, the kind of movies about which some people say "they don't make movies like that anymore". Those are the movies I love the most.
Good for you to 'suspend the puzzle mindset' and just try to ENJOY the performance. One of the big keys to becoming a better magician.

Personally I'm a scary movie person. I actually just really like movies (maybe a little too much) to the point where it fits to my personal style because pretty much all of my scripts have a reference to a movie somewhere in them.

I love scuba diving and have seen 0 submarine movies, so I altered the trick to be about a deep sea diver going down to a sunken treasure.
