    Drop it in the washing machine with some RIT dye and make it any color you want! Green, black,brown etc.! No more white!

      I have a bunch of it that I got off of job sites and most of it is stained from Georgia red clay or grey from concrete dust so I bet it would take die pretty well. Go "value added" comment. Thanks for posting it

      +BluegrassBushcraft it ranges from around 1250lbs - 3800lbs I think. Way more than you need for a hammock or tarp ridge line or hoisting something heavy. It can't replace 550 for everything but it sure can for some things, lol ATB

    • @survivorjohnny44
      @survivorjohnny44  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +MTwoodsrunner I love it for a hammock when you tie loops down the length to make a daisy chain. It's pretty cheap on EBay too. Thanks brother

  • @mikecurtis1111
    @mikecurtis1111 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Instead of tying a bunch of over hand knots to make a daisy chain, learn to tie an alpine butterfly loop. Much more secure and easy to untie after being loaded. Better yet, learn the Becket hitch or marlin spike hitch. Allows infinite adjustability versus having to clip to a loop that's possibly 6 inches or more too long or short

    This is one hell of a GREAT video . 550 paracord is WAY over rated . Try pulling out the inner threads when freezing rain is pouring down . My cordage kit & fishing line kit is already made . 100 feet of 20 & 8 pound test fishing line - 100 feet of mule tape - 50 feet of common sisal bailing twine which is biodegradable and super cheap & 100 feet of tarred bank line / 300 pound test = Weighs less than 2 pounds . Thanks Mr. Tewelow . I'm sharing your video with friends . Lefty Cat in Northern New Mexico .

    For those asking why they only find 1000ft rolls, i actually found a website called paracordgalaxy dot com that sells in 100ft and different lb capacity for about $6. Don't know the reputation of the website but i did find one that sold it in more average consumer lengths.

    Here is a bit of information you not know. If you can find where they are installing communications cable ( i.e. phone, cable, fiber optics), good chance they will have some just laying around that they have already used. And a good chance, if you ask, they will let you have for free. Used it when I was doing communications work, and most of the time, the company discards it after use.

    • @survivorjohnny44

      Wendell Harrell I love this type of "value added" comment. I think I gave the same advice in an earlier reply. I have scored big doing this. I got some 6000# rates from a power company guys once a while back

    • @wendellharrell8200
      @wendellharrell8200 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Tewelow I saved alot of tape for use when I was in the business. Due to different lengths of pull, it may not get reused.

    • @survivorjohnny44
      @survivorjohnny44  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wendell Harrell me too. I fpumd out about this stuff when I helped with a Bell South fiber optic upgrade. I have found it 1 or 2 times at hardware stores but most of what I have was scavenged from work sights. they would rather use new lines to do a pull them have it break in an underground pull with 20' left before the cable is out of the other end of the pipe

      I work for a telecom company and we pull on average 6000 feet of this out daily and it just goes in the trash. Takes to long to set it up to use it again and no one wants to pay someone to roll it up.

    550 cord is like Maglites. It used to be cool when everything else was much, much worse. Now both exist because customers don't know any better.
    Amsteel, Dyneema and other cords are far fucking superior. Mule tape is also very cool.

    Brother this is right up my alley...I want some ...where Do I get it...? I'm checking the internet right now...I'm wanting to get into the hammocks and this has got to be it! White ain't no problem because I want to see that darn decapitation cord at night anyway...lol. Perfecto! The usual ratings for wieght from what I understand is the weight they say is safe multiplied by 3 for their safety...example a tree stand rated for only 250 lbs is actually able to hold 750 lbs...that stuff rated for 1800 lbs is insane and I am well under 300 lbs even when bouncing...lol.

    now john the answer is both are better than the
    other only at different things the tape will lift a
    2500 lb log p cord wont but try to gut tape to stitch
    your self or catch a fish don't work do it
    i rite this before i watch the vid the answer is
    put a couple hundred feet of each in the pack
    and have best of both

  • @jamesaritchie2

    Mule tape is common around here, but, no, I'd never even consider replacing 550 with mule tape. Mule tape is excellent stuff, but not nearly as good for the great majority of bushcraft tasks as 550. If I need something stronger than 550, though I have no idea why I would, I'd just move up to 1100 paracord. Paracord has far more important uses than Mule tape ever could. If it doesn't, you aren't using it to anything like its full potential.

    • @survivorjohnny44
      @survivorjohnny44  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +James Ritchie please re-read the title. It says "is it better" I said in the video that I do carry 550 and I also carry jute but I wouldn't hang my hammock with 550. I wouldnt use 550 on a flip flop wench either. They all have their place and if you carry rope, the stuff from Home Depot takes up a lot more room and is heavier for a fraction of the weight rating. Of course not everyone carries rope or foresees a use for rope. Another example might be a leg snare for a pig or lowering a heavy load down a steep hill. Thanks for watching brother
